cheers, got a mini push-switch on order, then you can just press the button to check battery state, rather than having an LED or circuit draining charge all the time.
John East's little unit is far more elegant using a tiny pulse of light flashing when battery falls below the programmed level to stay economical with current drain, but this should fit the bill for my gecko.

that's a fab idea, and every bit as elegant as John's :)

  2. I was a DHA user - very happy - had a VT2, which has a DI, was too big for my board, but brilliant. i still have a DHA EQ-DI which is great. I am moving now to an SFX micro red dragon for saturation type effect but at a 1/10th of the footprint. For me emulation is not a bad thing in the context of live where it's not under hi-fi scrutiny. Also depends on how much "break up"/grit you are looking for. Maybe more critical in recording but you may then get the chance to use other FX/plug ins? Smallish point but watch out for power supply issues, again depends on your board and space and all the rest but I found DHA pedals REALLY benefit from using the appropriate separate power supply (they are positive tip and there are issues with daisy chaining). This is not a point against Dave's pedals just not quite as easy as daisy chaining a 9Vdc negative tip.

    My signal chain is:
    Bass -> Pedal FX loop send -> TU-2 -> OC-2 - > CoPilot FX Orbit -> ME-50B -> Slicer -> BEF -> FX loop return -> Amp

I'm only using the standard BEF so:

    Frequency - 9 o'clock
    Sweep Range - 10 o'clock
    Speed - 1 o'clock

Still messing around with it though.

great work Si. Which filter setting do you work with on your BEF? I have been having phenomenal fun with my BEF pro with all the backpage stuff so brilliant you have done such a good job with the standard model! In fact I bust my hot hand last night, snapped the thumb loop in a clumsy exaggerated action. Super glued it this morning, just hope it works!

  4. i own an All Seeing Ei. Like it a lot but it's a wild beast not easily tamed. Was interested in the Brassmaster clip. Do appreciate the art of the bespoke pedal maker. Would like to see more discussion of the various small time manufacturers so if they produce something really cool that we could use the power of BC to give them a boost at this difficult economic time.

  5. Hi guys, who knows about these guys - Hugh - outta Liverpool?

I definitely remember seeing him playing a relic Sandberg on some of his vids, I guess that's his favourite.
    [/quote]

yes he has used a Sandberg relic as well as the pink one - his "main" basses for me are his early 60's Jazz and the Marcus Miller 4 Jazz. Obviously he's had loads more including his Rick, F bass, etc. Def though a Jazz man in my head at least. Also is this a genuine signature model (available to punters to buy) or a custom build, which we can ask for if we go custom but not otherwise available?

Good on him I suppose, and yes I think he has turned a lot of people onto bass playing. Also shows how much times have changed. This is a guy with no affiliation to any well known band, just a Youtube sensation.

agree with that. Just seems to love the bass and dedicates his life to communicating that love. That'll do for me. Good guy. Also quite like the Sandberg relics.

  8. good advice so far, also I would say it's critical to not use a gate to remove otherwise removeable hiss. So again knowing what kind of hiss, hum, etc., you are talking about. I got some excellent advice recently from Shep (Pantherairsoft) on here about the obsessive way he cleans up his signal chain (better cabling, power supplies etc) which I find has helped me approach gating in a more relaxed way. Again, really sorry if you are well up on all this and I am stating the bleeding obvious!

  9. if you can pick up a decent condition OC2 for £50 on eBay then dont think twice. There are usually lots up for auction and some go for up to £75. After that I liked my MXR Bass Octave Deluxe, which I picked up on eBay for £70. You can then head up the scale with various features including octave up/down, mix but sky's the limit. OC2's the classic.

  10. +10000 on the trying any pedal out thing. If a guitar pedal works then fine but if it doesn't it can really fcuk up your sound. The most obvious thing is not being able to handle and even sucking out low frequencies, which pretty much kills if you are a bassist. Clean blend or mix is particularly valued either within the pedal or parallel looping it. Anyway most pedals have been tried somewhere in the world on about every instrument and posted about on't interweb so that can assist in not making a complete erse of it. With the marketplace on here you can pretty much satisfy all your desires and get bass specific pedals, even better if you live close enough to try.
