Similar things happening in academia. We have industrialised learning, producing great technicians who fill up conference after conference and journal after journal but there's very little original thought or wisdom. I ain't too worried cause I am not sure this is sufficient to suppress true genius. I am not a pro musician (or an academic) so I don't know whether all these technical experts adversely affect the system but I still buy the music I buy and don't seem to see any direct impact on the output.

i really really like them - i have a corvette $$5 - but think they're neither cool nor indeed fashionable. What they have is a really fantastic tone that cuts through. Suppose that means they should be cool? To my mind they look 90's.

takes all sorts and some dont change their strings ever. I like sparkle and since I like Legacy's at only £7.99 a set I do every month or two whatever (less than 100 hours?), more frequent when recording and gigging regularly (sweaty fingers!).

John East does a retro in a pedal which would resolve the problem. Not sure that pedal gets as much love as it should. However not as good a solution when someone already has it in internal pre form.

an amazing wee box - I only let mine go out of necessity and have missed it ever since.

TBF he accepts that what he will end up with is a relatively "simple" system (for tone control) which will have nothing to do with his synth set up. I like his style - not making a big deal about it but just doing what mental techie men do best - obsessive, driven, mad.

I discussed this with Chris McIntyre (ex Sei and now McIntyre Guitars) and he encouraged me to disengage the microtilt and revert to a shim with an explanation that in part involved the issue of contact (the difference between a pin and a traditional shim) and reference to what BigRedX is talking about. What I would agree with is doing whatever's necessary to understand this dimension of your bass(es) so that adjustment is as easy and effective as possible. If that makes 3 bolt and a micro-tilt your thing then go for it. I am rarely in a set up crisis so I quite "enjoy" taking my time over an afternoon, adjusting and fiddling to get it right. If I needed stuff on the fly then I would see the benefits of a micro tilt as long as it worked.

every few months I get myself back up to speed with this as an exercise. I have never nailed it. Much easier these days with score and youtube play throughs. I loved the old days with a record player in the bedroom, slowing it down, back and back again. Great fun.

that's fair enough. I would see if you can borrow a decent comp pedal and do some testing. Get feedback from band, audience, sound guy. Or do what most on here do, just blow £150 on something you are not sure you need! I have so much sh*t I dont even know what some of it does.

hi mate, why do you think you need a compressor pedal? Serious question, I have been adding and removing my compressor from my board for the last few weeks and asking for views on sound. I use soft comps for recording both on bass signal and in mix etc, but maybe the gigs I play and my style but struggling to see the benefit of a comp on my board. Just looking for your thoughts.

i have a midget t and compact "stack". Assume excellent sound, which other cabs have. But it's modularity, flexibility, portability that sold it for me. It's just easy to find the right cab solution for most situations. I dont have nor have I tried a super 12t but if the midget t on steroids description is accurate then that wouldn't quite do it for me - it's an angry wee bastard the midget t and I like it when it combines with the compact.

that's some brilliant sh*t goin on right there. I'll be honest prog metal fusion (or whatever) isn't my thing, but musicality and musicianship is, and this has both in spades. All hail Stickman.
