1. Sold Hodge some Jazz bass bits and a set of strings. Good bloke, prompt payment via Paypal. No messing about, this is how business should be done, no matter the size of the deal.
2. Sold James a BBOT Squier VM bridge. Good bloke. Prompt payment via Paypal. Enough said I feel
3. Awesome colour. Must be a Prince tribute act out there somewhere in need of a bit more purple..... Great basses, I bought one (in metallic blue, a '98 model) from Gareth of this site, last August. Truly the most versatile bass I've ever owned and plenty loud enough to cut it with two guitarists who only recognise 11 on the volume dial. Good luck with the sale.
4. Forgot to add, will all be safely posted in padded Jiffy bags via Royal Mail or other appropriate post.
5. Having trouble with uploading pics, will post as soon as possible.
6. Just been clearing out my spare parts case and I think some of this stuff would be useful for for anybody with a Jazz Bass project in mind. Jazz Bass [s]1 x set (4) of Squier VM Jazz Bass tuners - mint condition, no slack, all ferrules and screws - £12.50 + postage [/s]SOLD. 1 x set (1 x Bridge - 94mm long, 7.85 kohm + 1 x Neck - 90mm long, 7.7 kohm) Squier VM pick-ups (designed by Seymour Duncan apparently) - these are better than anything I've heard on a MIM Fender bass.....alright I know that's not saying much but they aren't bad, decent mids and enough bite from the bridge pick-up to make it worth sticking them on a cheapo project bass - £20 + postage [s]1 x Squier VM BBOT bridge - fits Jazz or P-Bass - again seems sturdier than the MIM model, the value for money of the Squier VM models is well documented, so no surprise I guess - £8.00 + postage[/s] - SOLD 1 x MIM Fender BBOT bridge (no through body stringing holes) - fits Jazz or P-Bass - £8.00 + postage [s]1 x set of Fender shiny stuff for Jazz Bass (1 x F marked bridge ashtray, 1 x pick up cover and 1 x standard JB control plate) all chrome and in VGC. The attached photo is a bit pony but there are no dinks and only a few minor scratches on all three - £20.00 + postage - [/s]SOLD [s]1 x Fender genuine part white-black-white 3 ply JB pickguard - nicely aged to a sort of ivory - VGC as taken off when brand new and replaced - £10.00 + postage[/s] - SOLD [s]1 x Non Fender replacement part (very) red tortoiseshell 3 ply JB pickguard - looks good on anything sunburst or natural - £8.00 + postage[/s] - SOLD 1 x Non Fender replacement part blue pearloid 3 ply JB pickguard + thumbrest (not pictured) - fits Squier VM JB not too sure about Fenders, didn't try it but holes look slightly different placement - £8.00 + postage Non Jazz Bass 1 x set of well worn but very functional Epiphone 2+2 gold tuners, originally on an Epiphone Korina Flying V bass - all ferrules and screws (ideal for a "roadworn" project)- £5.00 + Postage [s]1 x set of heavy gauge black tape wound strings - I can't remember what make these are, D'Addario possibly, I was looking for a heavy dub sound at one point, tried these but they were too heavy for a Jazz, so took them off after two playings and bought a cheap five string instead . They are quite heavy, you could moor up warships with these things, but very well made and would be smooth as you like on the right bass. Look great too. - £10.00 + postage[/s]. - SOLD Cheers Ash
7. Stunning bit of kit that. I'll send our lead guitarist the link. Good luck with the sale.
8. Can anyone recommend a good, reliable maker of custom pickguards? Specifically I'm looking for a left hand Fender Mustang 'guard, cut for a pair of P90's and a 3 way toggle switch. As Fender are now offering a P90 Mustang, I thought there might be something ready made on the market either here or in the States but it would appear not at present. Thanks Ash
9. Evening all. This is a mint 2006 Standard Jazz Bass from the Fender anniversary collection (I'm not sure what difference that makes but it does have dinky silver badge on the back of the head-stock saying so....which is nice), I had a Badass II fitted by the Southampton luthier of note, Vince Hockey. Vince also set the bass up to my spec at the same time. I have also fitted a Fender original part tortoise shell plate, to give it that sixties classic Jazz look, which IMHO is the best match with 3 colour sunburst but I will throw in the original white plate for those that prefer that look. Although this bass has an alder body, the wood does have a very fine figuring which is visible through the yellow part of the paint job, more in line with a good piece of ash, unfortunately that doesn't show up too well in the pictures. The rosewood fret-board is also a very fine piece of wood and has been recently oiled. The bass has barely left the house in the nine years I've had it and has no wear apart from a couple of minuscule scratches on the black underside below the control plate which in the interests of glasnost I have attempted to show. I'm putting this up for sale as (although very pretty and very playable) it just isn't getting the use it should and having just acquired a very good EBMM Sterling (from Gareth on this site), all my rehearsal and future gigging bases are covered, so to speak. I purchased this new in 2007 from the now sadly defunct Fret Music of Southampton. Spec as follows: 2006 Mexican Jazz Bass - Serial number MZ606xxxx 3 Colour Sunburst Maple/Roswood neck with clay dot markers Badass II bridge Strung with D'Addario flats. Plenty of life left in these. Tortoise shell scratchplate (original Fender part from Thomann) Original white scratchplate included Weight is 4.65 kg or 10.25 lbs (this is noticeably lighter than my Squire VM Jazz) Will be shipped with a generic hard case (Stagg) which is very serviceable and also in very good condition. I am located in Southampton but I am happy to courier this within the UK (with insurance) at cost to buyer. Need to thin out the general instrument collection, so not currently thinking of trades. Thanks for looking. Cheers Ash
10. Just brought a 1998 MM Sterling from Gareth. Great bass, smooth sales process (involving handover in London) and a thoroughly decent chap to boot. You can deal with Gareth with 100% confidence.

Very nice. What scale is that? 32"?
12. Yes, hard to argue with that, especially up against dreadnought Martins and Taylors being played enthusiastically after a few malts. Might need a bigger boat...to use a famous line. I'm still interested though. I'm having a cull myself, aiming to get down to just one Jazz and an acoustic so I can practice unplugged. I just need to square things with the powers that be on space and I'll get back to you, hopefully next week. Are you happy to ship it?
13. Nice looking bass that. What sort of volume do you get out of it unplugged? The reason I ask, is I'm playing a couple of unplugged gigs off the back of a sailing trip in Scotland next year (you can't make it up sometimes) and I need a short or medium scale acoustic bass with a hard case.
14. Quick bump. Has to go. So (unfortunately) evilbay and Gumtree it is.
15. I have for sale an Epiphone Flying V Short Scale (30") bass. Used by my youngest offspring in school bands etc, now surplus to requirements and I'm also funding the purchase of a medium scale acoustic bass for my next drinking and sailing trip (or should that be the other way around?) to the Hebrides! Although it has seen some action, the overall condition is very good and I can only find one real dink, which is on the rear tip of the headstock (I have hopefully captured this on one of the attached shots). No buckle rash. I have just serviced the bass; a good clean-up, tiny bit of intonation fettling, fretboard lemon oiled, restrung with new Rotosound .90 gauge short scale strings and I have also replaced the tuning pegs with a set of Wilko matt black models, replacing the original well-worn gold ones, which had weakened somewhat. The pegs now match the rest of the hardware, which gives the bass a more together look in my humble opinion. Sound wise, it is typical Gibson/Epiphone short scale, Jack Brucesque thump and growl but plenty of tonal variation with two fairly wide spaced humbuckers and a selector switch. Unusually for an Epiphone, it has a brass nut which takes out some of the traditional "muddiness". I had an Epiphone Rivoli in the 80s to which someone had added an extra DiMarzio PU in the bridge position (sacrilege I know) and it reminds a bit of that. I'm not sure if Epiphone still make these but it is a useful bass for those with smaller mitts, being short scale with a reasonable neck radius. The overall build quality is good and the white plate is ageing to a sort of ivory finish which looks pretty good. The fretboard is a particularly fine piece of rosewood and the frets have plenty left in them. It also came with a pair of Dunlop straplocks when I brought this off Pete Young (off this site) back in 2010. I will leave those on, as I think they are essential on any Gibson/Epiphone short scale. One small problem, the Epiphone headstock decal was a stick on, rather than being varnished into the finish, this has come loose and I am trying to source another. No real neck dive, despite a light wood body and mahogany neck. General description: 2004 model, made in Unsung, South Korea according to the Epiphone serial number guide. Body - Korina (very light whatever it is) Neck - Mahagony set neck. 30" Scale. Fretboard - Rosewood Pick-ups - 2 x Epiphone T-Bird Humbucker Controls - 2 x Tone, 1 x Master Volume & 1 x 3-way Selector Switch Bridge - Gibson/Epihone 3-point (pretty solid and with plenty of adjustment capability) Nut - Brass Weight - about 8 lbs according to my suitcase scales but I think a tad under that, this Korina stuff is pretty light. Case - I have no case for this, my daughter was using a jumbo gig bag to get it around but she won't part with that. I will however pack it safely in bubble wrap and a strong box if shipping is required. All in this owes me about £160. I live in Southampton and can also drop off at Waterloo station but I'm happy to ship at added courier cost, unless you're in Stornoway, in which case I'll drop it off to you next June! :-) I'm not really looking for trades, unless someone has a Fender T-Bucket acoustic going spare, in which case I would put cash towards that......unlikely I know. I think that's it, if there are any questions, please ask away. 16. Very nice work, looks awesome, that's a heavy duty bridge, is it original fit? I always had a soft-spot for Gibson basses of the late 70s/early 80s particularly the RD, which was just a boyhood dream really. How is the PU selector switch configured? I'm guessing; neck, all three, bridge?
17. Purchased a pair of Jazz SD quarter-pounders from Si, top bloke, dropped them round to my brother who conveniently lived in the next village....what are the chances of that? You may buy with confidence from this man. Pick-ups are now on my Mexican Jazz. Much improved.
18. Very nice. What are the controls on that? Volume/Volume/EQ?
