1. Good golly miss molly, that is lovely.
2. I love this bass, I really do, but I must thin the herd so like the 66 Jazz this one must go. This is a beautiful Martin bass from the early 1990s, most likely 1992 with:

solid spruce top and truly stunning solid Indian rosewood back and sides
cutaway on the lower horn
unusual oval soundhole
Fishman pickup under the bridge (no volume or tone controls) with output jack in chrome tailpiece
white and black binding
Really nice and unusual example of an early Martin acoustic bass. Fantastic condition apart from a small crack in the lacquer by the cutaway (you can see this in the picture). Comes with original hard shell case, plus a Martin leather strap, Martin polish and polishing cloths, original hang tag and spare set of bridge pins. Currently strung with Elixir strings. Lovely tone to this bass both acoustically and plugged in. It's quite loud as well. Aiming for £800 plus whatever shipping is needed. No low ball offers and no trades thanks. Gareth
3.
If it was me - and I'm being candid here - I'd maybe not jump at a parts bass that I hadn't put together myself. That's not to say that nobody would be, but for something like this, people are often very picky. A refinned pre CBS jazz is going to set you back (if you can find one) about £2300 - £2800 so you're in that ballpark. It looks like a great bass, and even if it's just a visual first impression, i tlooks like it would knock spots off a custom shop reissue. The neck itself looks beautiful, 66' is one of the best years for Fenders as collectible legend goes... If I win Lotto Euromillions I will buy this bass off you and love it. I will also then amass the worlds greatest collection of vintage Fender Jazz Basses, but that's another story! This is a promise and I will swear by it!
I agree with pretty much all of this. Bravewood, while they are great basses, are not that well known in the UK let alone overseas, so I can understand buyer apprehension. It really is a great bass, as you say the neck is to die for, and I'm aware that 66 is considered a great year. Thanks for your comments. Helpful and constructive. Cheers Gareth
4.
Hi mate, sad as it might seem, you might be better off selling the jazz as separate pieces. It's worth a fortune in bits. I'm just putting it out there... Cheers, L
I know, but it's such a great playing bass that seems a real shame...
5. Sensible offers considered, but the way it's going I'll be holding onto both these beauties!
6. Some eye candy...
7. I'm pretty sure blocks started the second half of 1966.
8. Rule of thumb is always try the passive jack first. If there's no distortion, especially when you dig in and play hard, then just keep using it. Looking at your amp it appears there is no gain control. If that's the case set your amp up just as you like it (i.e. compression, eq etc) and then plug your bass into the passive jack and play as hard as you can. If there's no distortion you're all set, but if there is either modify your settings (i.e. reduce your bass in the eq or increase compression) or switch to active. If your bass has no actives on board you should be able to use the passive jack no problem at any setting, it's only where you have active eq in the bass that things get complicated. Best of luck!
9.
Aw, shucks! Thanks. It is great and I will not be dissapointed if it does not go, but I do fancy a shot on the Berg IP 112! For anyone else reading, it is a great amp if you have 2 bassses on stage, it has 2 completely independant pre-amp channels.
Superb bit of kit.
10.
The Jazz looks great Gareth
Thanks, it is, and I'm glad how the pics turned out too.
11. Pictures are now here. Gareth
12.
Were all the parts put together by bravewood or have you added to them over the years?
I added the tuners, bridge saddles, thumbrest, neck pickup cover and bridge pickup.
13. Apologies to all those who have asked for pictures. Should be up tomorrow evening (Tuesday).
14. Sibob is correct; the repro parts are the body, neck pickup and the scratchplate.
15. Hi all Really not sure I want to do this, but financial needs must.... 1966 Jazz Bass This bass was assembled by Bravewood Guitars and consists of all original parts apart from the body, neck pickup and scratchplate. It's a great bass, really resonant, lightweight and punchy, but I am just not really a passive guy. I'm looking to get £2k for this, which may seem like a lot for a non-original bass, but given that a Fender Custom Shop '66 made from all new parts costs more than this, I'd say it's well priced. You can see John's build here. Obviously the bass has moved on a bit in terms of original parts (tuners, bridge pickup, thumbrest, neck pickup cover) since these pictures were taken, but you get the idea. No trades thanks. Cheers Gareth
16.
Boz Burrell?
Jaz Lochrie?
17. The "cosmo black" set are now sold pending payment.
18. Hi all Anyone have a chart for "Streetlife" by The Crusaders they can send to me. Regular 7" single version please, rather than the 11 minute magnum opus! Thanks Gareth
19. Gentle "end of the weekend, Sunday night bump". Cosmo black set still here.....
20. Genuine Fender replacement. Some scratches, but you want that for the vintage vibe right? Not really got any idea what to ask, so how about £7.50 posted?
21. Hello all One Jazz Bass bridge pickup for sale here. It's a Voodoo JB60's BL, and the site says: "Hand wound to get that ‘60s Bass Growl. These pickups are relicas of the pre '65 Black JB pickups.Using Formvar wire, sandcast Alnico 5 magnets, this pickup is perfect for that throaty Jaco sound." It's in great condition, comes with the black plastic cover, and works perfectly. A new pair costs $170 (£85) so one new would be £42.50 plus duty/tax/shipping from the USA. I'd like to get £35 for it (plus postage). Cheques, cash or collect please. Thanks Gareth
22. I have a Bravewood Jazz with original March 1966 "dots and binding" neck. I've busily been replacing the repro parts with original 66 parts; the only non-original parts left are the body (which is superb btw), the neck pickup, and the scratchplate. Anyway, the point is they are seriously good basses so if someone wants to help Chris out by buying the Bravewood they won't be disappointed!
23.
Hi Walbassist, I'm assuming you've changed these from your Wals for lighter versions (Hipshots?) - did it make much difference? I've got a lovely Alembic Epic 5er that could shed some weight at the top... BB
Corectamundo BB. The Hipshot ultralites are each about 10g lighter. May not sound like much but it makes a difference.
24. The "cosmo black" set are now on eBay as well.
