1.
I was using it for the first time in ages yesterday and it sounded just amazing..
I second that. Nik's Wal has a really nasty tone, but "nasty" in a good way!!!!!!

  2. Do you have a ballpark figure in mind? These early JV series Squiers usually attract a good premium because they were so well put together, but as yours has been heavily modded to your own spec I wonder what value people will put on it?

Best of luck with the sale.

    Cheers

    Gareth

  3. Funnily enough I have a real paucity of decent shots from "out front"....

Blues band, playing to what appears to be an audience of two, before we supported Geno Washington that evening. Cranleigh, September 2005.

Function band, playing at ITV's 50th birthday party

  4.
Have you thought about the strings - gauge, Lo B vs Hi C, etc? It may take a bit of looking to find the right 5-string acoustic set for you (I imagine).
Brook use Elixir as standard and I'm more than happy with that. The bass will sport a low B as it'll be used plugged in most of the time so unplugged volume will not be an issue.

  5.
Just heard the ETA on the bass is 20 July!
At least it was due then. I've just heard from Brook that there will be a delay. :)

    New pictures though....

    Nice shape to the bridge

    Fantastic myrtle back and sides

  6.
great info, how did you find the string spacing and neck dimensions? I love the singlecuts but the jazz will be a stretch for me secondhand, and thats even if I can sell the Musicman.
Necks were fine, quite round as I recall and not the flattened oval common on many 5s these days. The basses are certainly made with a lot of room between strings, although the bridge spacing was adjustable (but I don't think the NJS has the same bridge, so you get what you get). They are so light and feel so good I never really had a sense of the dimensions being uncomfortable.

  7. My wife and I bought her Mum two tickets for Neil Diamond next Monday night at the O2. Thing is she's too ill to go at the moment and it's not really our thing, so are they of interest to anyone here?

They cost £60 each and I'd like to get £100 posted for them if at al possible.

They're in Upper Tier, Block 420. Anyone interested?

    Cheers

    Gareth

  8. Here are my three.

    Ken Smith BMT from 1994
My main bass and a total tone machine. This bass and an Epifani rig (although not this one any more, which way WAY more than I need now!) is just sonic nirvana for me.

    Wal Mk III from 2006
The only one with spalted maple facings ever made and one of the last two Pete built. Currently wearing the fretless neck (I had fretted and fretless made)

    Brook Otter Acoustic Bass
The first 5 string they've made. Due to be finished middle of July...

  9.
Not to sell by themselves I'm afraid. But I think you might like what I've got planned. :)
Ah, so it's the CK signature series Shuker bass line!

  10.
Trust me, it will definitely be worth the wait. :)
Why do I have the feeling that the words "double" and "neck" will soon be forever linked to CK on this forum?

  11.
ooh ya fighter. I was looking at Brook guitars when I was looking at buying a top end acoustic guitar - these were way way out of my price range, but looked like bloody lovely. I hope they play/look as nice as they sound. Fretted I take it? Are you having a pickup fitted?
Yep, fretted indeed. Toyed with fretless and banjo frets as options, but in the end figured fretted was the best option. And yes it will have a pickup; latest version of the Snake by Headway. No frills.

  12. Not exactly a build diary, as this bass will be finished in the next month or so, but I thought folks might like to see my "Otter" bass being made by Brook Guitars in darkest Devon.

It's the first 5 string they've built, with neck profile the same as my Ken Smith BMT. Top is spruce with Myrtle sides and back.
