  1. I suspect that this also due to the fact that these US brands are the ones used on a lot of music by a lot of artists we've all been listening too. And the last century the US have dominated the media too, so we've all been exposed to their music, their brands, their artists, etc.. I'm not quite sure they have a more peculiar or unique sound, but it's the sound we hear on records though, and those are the instruments our favourite artists held. Then of course, there are some example of UK brands that reached the same level of popularity and are immediately recognisable (look and sound-wise) like Wal, but I suppose we can all agree these are actual exceptions.
  2. Yap, prices have defo gone up. Recently I have been buying D'Addario EXL165 45-65-85-105 and in July they were £22.89, while now £27.99 on sale, otherwise £35.50. All prices on Gak.
  3. PRICE DROP - 400 380£ Hi, I'm selling a Spector Legend 4 Classic with Bartolini PJ pickups and TonePumpJr active preamp. I acquired the bass new from Bass Direct in Sept 2021. It has never left my studio and is in really good conditions. Currently has D'Addario EXL165 45-65-85-105 (~4 months old). Quick (and monotone) demo here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/466792-npd-laney-digbeth-db-pre-featuring-graphs-📈📉/?do=findComment&comment=4776192 No gig bag or case included. Collection only. Cheers, Mario EDIT: I decided to keep it. The bass is really well made in terms of finishing, feel and sound, it punches above way its weight. I just realised that I struggle a bit with the TonePumpJr preamp that is not exactly my cup of tea, but I decided to do something about it (e.g. change it or even remove it entirely)
  4. I'll check them out for sure. Like I said before, I was keeping my eyes open to see if a Squier pops up, but it seems worth keeping an eye on these too
  5. This looks interesting. On a slightly different note, the Squier Vintage Modified and the most recent Classic Vibe seem to be really solid bass at super reasonable price too. This to say, I'll keep my eyes open, but as if it wasn't tricky enough, I'm left handed...

  7. yap, it all makes sense and just for the records, I'm happy with manufacturers sticking with their design instead and offering 20 versions of the same thing. I truly believe that's the way to go! I was genuinely just curious and yes, it seems relatively straightforward to make your own bitsa
  8. Cool, all nice info guys, thanks. I'm just surprised there aren't as many J basses out there with a nut width > 1.5-1.6". I'm trying to get my head around that, because I do like necks with a nut width > 1.65" and I know I'm not the only one. All I'm trying to say is that I think there would be a market for that, unless there is a particular reason behind this choice that I can't think of.
  9. wow. well, that is a huge gap in price! personally I'm not interested in this, but maybe at 380£ I'd have thought about it

  11. ahahh it's not me for sure! but if anybody's interested easier to just send an email. otherwise it's just a bit of a guess I suppose. I have been checking shops like The Bass Gallery in London and there are some lefties there that have been listed for 1+ year.
  12. on there there's also a nice Stingray 5 year 2000 in London. Need to scroll down a bit to find it
  13. Hi, I was wondering what are the jazz basses out there that by default (no mods) come with chunkier necks. Anything let's say 1.57" upward, C profile, etc.. With "jazz basses" I mean anything with the classic JJ pups configuration, both passive and active circuitry. Cheers, Mario
  14. The Rumble series wasn't really appealing to me, but I have to say I think this (and some other recent events ) made me reconsider it. I have to say, I like the sound even if I don't feel it belongs me. It looks like it has its own sound (as in it colours a bit), and tbh as long as one knows that, it's OK. I also feel like this would work well in the mix. The "Full/Low" switch seems useful to. All that said, I didn't try one
  15. That's a bit of a stretch. Kraftwerk have been essential, but hip hop owns a lot to the Jamaican sound systems and djs (toasters, mc). Dj Kool Herc had Jamaican roots afterall
  16. I'd hope it's easy to disconnect them, but I haven't seen one so I don't really know

  18. NS Design using supercapacitors instead of batteries on some of their basses. They charge in few secs and last for 16h! https://thinkns.com/instrument/the-ns-design-radius-bass-guitar/ns-design-radius-bass-guitar-nxta/
  19. Never had or tried basses that use an external PSU but, considering I always feel bad when I think how many batteries we all use for our active basses, I really like the NS Design solution for their NXTa RADIUS Bass where they use a super capacitor you can charge in few seconds and it lasts for 16h!
