I know that all things are open to our subjectivity, but, in this particular instance, I want to talk about effect pedals. When considering a particular product, a broad range of opinion isn't always granted. Some pedals win the approval of all (or most, at least). Some are wholly reviled by the masses. There are those which aren't really noticed ... But there are also pedals which definitely split the camp down the middle. Pedals which are loved by some, hated by others, and leave few sitting on the fence. What are these pedals? Do you use one? Does it bug you that everyone, except you, is clearly lacking some part of their brain because they can't hear how amazing the Boss ODB-3 sounds???!!! Answers on a postcard, please ...
Get yourself one of these instead, it can cover so many tones in one pedal! http://www.bassdirec...Distortion.html
Ooooooh! Now THAT is interesting. Uber versatile. Anyone used one of these?

He used an old Marshall Shredmaster on song 2. The Shredmaster is a dis-continued and sought-after high-gain distortion pedal, made for guitar. I've actually got one, and it's entirely possible to recreate that sound. However, there is only one combination, within all the available parameters on that pedal in which there's enough bottom-end to make it worthwhile. It's a limited window, but if you're sick for that particular sound, then it's the way to nail it.

Just bought a pedal from Pete. Smooth and easy deal, with good communication throughout. Everything tip-top and the way it should be. All good!

An Epiphone Zenith. Check it out. Cheap, good for the sounds you'll want, and aesthetically perfect for such an outing ... http://www.epiphone....ass/Zenith.aspx

Interesting question. As a priority, I suppose it comes and goes, depending on what my focus is at the time. Bass is the instrument which I'm most familiar with, by far, and it was also the first instrument I learned, so it has that over other instruments. I was playing percussion more than anything for the last year or so though. Totally absorbed in it, and not thinking a great deal about bass (hence my hiatus from Basschat), so I guess that percussion was my priority. However, a new project has got me back on bass, so, aye, the low end has become my priority again. Subjective, I know, but it's like the weather. It changes, and it's good to just go with the flow and not get too hung up on what we are. That said, when we're in it, it can become all-encompassing. It's a mindset. I'm thinking like a bass player, rather than a singer, or a percussionist (both of which I also do). A side effect is that I'm also thinking about bass, and gassing for bass stuff that wouldn't have even occurred to me 6 months ago. In the future, other things will become my priority, but bass is always there to take its rightful crown.

Thanks, everybody. It seems to be absolutely fine now, so who knows. Anyway, I'm glad

Does anyone know what the fretboard radius is on the Aria SB's? (the SB1000/ SB900/ etc, not the SB-R models)

Hi folks. Yesterday my CMD121P wouldn't power up. The first time that I flicked the switch to the "on" position, it made a wee crackling noise, the light came on for a second, then nothing. Same the second time, but less so. The third time there was nothing. I tried again last night, and the result was exactly the same ... a momentary trace of life with a wee crackling sound, then nothing. This morning it powered up as normal :/ ... Eh?????? The crackling sound didn't come from the speaker. It was the amp, possibly the switch its self, although I'm not sure. I live in a remote part of the northern Highlands, so amp techs are not readily at my disposal. Has anyone got any ideas of what could be wrong? Warranty expired ages ago, so it's on me. Thanks in advance
Here we go.. 49" long, 17" wide (super jumbo size) and just short of 6" deep. Made with multi-layer stiffening and padding.. there used to be some blurb online about the Tribal Planet GX series construction. Bargain! Might be a delivery upcharge for Highlands depending on the carriers, as it's a large thing!
I just sent you a message dude
I'm very happy with my MXR M87 Bass Compressor, I reckon that would be worth a look in that price range.
+1

Hahaha!!! All the past owners are on this thread! That's right, this bass has a good Basschat pedigree ... Warwickhunt bought it from the original owner in Germany, then sold it to Big Thumb, who sold it to Bloc Riff Nut, who sold it to me. So, who's next for this remarkable bass then? I'm not looking for trades, btw .... Just a sale.
Tried the MarkBass combo just going into the Ashdown cab. So nice and warm with no hiss and no harsh treble. I'm gonna do that mod I think and try the combo as a 2x12 with the internal speaker and the Ashdown VS112.
Good call

There's nothing particularly exotic on my board, but it works a dream. The knobs get tweaked a fair bit, but I've marked my "default" settings on the pedals. It's really handy having those settings to come back to, as a basis. A $hit-load of hours have been spent working those out, considering each individual pedal, and the variables of multiple pedals working similtaneously. When I'm using effects I make no attempt to retain anything "organic". It's more of an exercise in getting as freaky as possible, but still achieving practically useful sounds that work well in a band mix ... with a simple board. To keep things neat and tidy, I bought a 1-gang extension cable and hard-wired a female kettle socket into it, then attached it to the board with velcro. The (wall-wort-type) power supply is always plugged in to this, so when I take the pedalboard out of its bag, it's just a case of connecting a lead from my bass into the tuner, a lead from the ODB-3 to the amp, and plugging a kettle lead into the board. Bass (active) >>> Korg Pitchblack Tuner. It's fine having this at the start of the chain, as the board is very quiet >>> MXR M87 Bass Compressor ... Uber-squashy, and good for peak limiting at these settings. It's always on >>> EHX Micro POG Octaver >>> Marshall Shredmaster Distortion... That's the strange-looking thing in the wooden housing. The friend who I inherited it from sought to rehome it in mahogany, for no apparent reason. It's a classic pedal, and apparently quite sought after by guitarists. I was previously using this for a bit of high-gain fuzz, but it was losing some low end with the gain past 12 o'clock. At lower gain settings there is no loss of low end, just thick smooth wooly overdrive. At these settings it makes a great overdrive, and it also works really well with the filter and/or octaver, for some amazing synthy vibes. MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter >>> Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive ... I know it's a "Marmite" pedal, but I love it. I've got the treble dialed right back and the gain set relatively low, but I still wouldn't describe this pedal as an overdrive. It's more like a fuzz, sounding huge and beastly-dirty in a kinda synthetic way (I think that's why folk hate it?). I virtually always use this on its own, occasionally in conjunction with the filter for blasting into noise meltdowns, when things get mental and out of control. >>> >>> AMP. This board, like all boards, is a work in progress
I'm tempted to try this mod too: http://basschat.co.u...-cmd121p-combo/ which will take away that annoying hiss and calm down the treble a bit.
Do it!!! It will take you 10 minutes, and the difference is incredible.
