Sound control - before they went bust -had one for sale in a 'go on make me an offer' manager special. Dont think they could shift if even then...... They sound great but have a big body shape - got a nice mid hump know that really adds to the sound. I would say if you like the look\size and the money is right get it.

i got a Line 6 Studio 110 recently - great little box that allows for headphone practice and can run a mp3/cd into it for silent play along. Good for small acoustic gigs too and a rather solid feeling practice amp.

Once I started to play in my second band my sound changed overnight as it had to fill a different sonic space and the bass playing provided a different 'role' in the band if that makes sense?? I play in two bands - one is a 3 piece punk/rock affair (but in a good way) I have a much more present in your face sound bright switch on and treble up but not that horrible 'american punk' bass tone - the Aggie bright adds sparkle not ear bleed, bass booted a little and a healthy dose of mids. Its one classy sound.... naturally and I mostly play with a pick for the added edge it gives. In the 6 piece its a similar thing to what someone else said earlier in the thread. I need to sit in the mix with 2 or 3 guitars, a keys player etc so my sound and role in this band is different to the 3 piece. Pus I play with my fingers in this band and vary the dynamics, hand position etc to fit in with the layers of guitar and keys. I have the rig set up differently and have my sound focused to support the guitars/band. so there

For all you home recording MarkBass fans...... Just downloaded this (demo version) and have been messing about with it for the last hour - lots of fun !!! Makes me wanna go check out some real MarkBass gear and if the people at Aguilar and Mesa are considering following the Ampeg and now MarkBas example...... http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua...t=5&vedi=93 Enjoy!

For all the talk of Mesa unreliability....... it does look very attractive...oh but the price (which will be high)

and here's my bit....... I think many of us were just shocked/stunned etc at the departure of what you would expect a 'U2' bass to look like. I thought a Lakland deal was on the cards with the departure of the DJ model and the positive comment's on the 'Adam Clayton DJ' As for his playing I have to echo those who say he's a great example of what a bass player should do. Many more progress to other things but I think the majority of people would want to listen to U2 over Jerry was a race car driver! I like bass to sound like bass - not a cross between timpani, bass and a busted guitar - but thats just me I wonder if AC dreams of working in an office as he stands there in front of millions of people plodding away on his bass

Missed out on the GuitarGuitar Tech Amp sale a while back - was hoping to get a 500w 210 or 212 to replace my Ampeg 410HLN. It sounds first rate but it's a big f**ker and with a 6 piece band space is at a premium....... Im looking for suggestions for a good alternative. I play mostly rock in a 6 piece with up to 3 guitars and keys and also in a 3 piece punk/rock type thing so the ampeg does the sound I like but Im after a smaller package. ooh matron! Im running an aguilar pre so their cabs do appeal and would be a good match Im sure. Anyone else been in this boat recently? And what is the price for a US Ampeg 410 SVT Classic cab 2nd hand these days? Some views please folks. Cheers in advance *HLN was the first coding to denote the use of neutrik speakons I think and is not a typo!

Welcome and for fear of echoing already sound advice.... For a Jazz style I'd go Lakland Skyline DJ or JO for more vintage sound. Necks are fantastic and you can find them for good money 'pre loved'. They deserve attention! Do make some time to visit one store that has a good selection of basses. I know time can be tight but if a long drive will get you someplace to try out 6 or 7 different bass builders and whatever they have to offer its one day well spent and you will come home with a new bass that you a/b'ed through the same rig and you can be happy it wasn't too impulsive a purchase

I think these are for debut at the NAMM show on the 14th The link below will have all the details you need. As for UK suppliers Im not sure who carries Source Audio gear but Im guessing ProGuitarShop will stock them and they ship worldwide and will try not to screw ppl on duties etc. They also have a version without the on board EQ which will cost less but should still allow the multi-band goodness for those synthy sounds. I do not work for SA or PGS before anyone asks Hope that helps guys http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issu..._NAMM_2010.aspx

"This bass isn't designed to have a low action"
krispn replied to Mokl's topic in General Discussion
Mokl The tone, professionalism and lets be honesty the quality of your writing skills, I think would attest to your integrity and Im confident were I to be a local in your area you would be setting up my bass! There is a guy here in Edinburgh, Axe Management, who is humble and decent and I would imagine to be equally on a par with you in terms of knowledge and professionalism and he summed it up best. I mentioned that I'd recommended him to my old guitarist (before having went myself but due to the quality of the email comms we'd had he seems very genuine) and he just rolled his eyes. "Ahh yes...the SG guy!" This tech is a huge SG fan and has 3 70's models that virtually play themselves! This guitarist had asked for a set up on his guitar which he thought was already great (it had never been set up since it was bought and played really bad) "I just want it tidied up before a gig" and then couldnt 't understand why the set up took more than a few minutes! He also needed a repair to a blown power amp. He was quoted a price and then went off to find the internet forum etc and see if he was getting ripped off by the tech??? Martin from AM is a qualified electrical engineer who has worked as a roadie for many bands and been round the country on tours as the tech on tour so to speak. The guitarist then barraged the tech with emails and phone calls saying "I have found this on the net and this...... and this........." Fortunately he was happy with the set up but his first thought was he was being ripped off. Sounds like the guy in you initial post was a little defensive that he bought a piece of crap and rather appear like a fool and admit that he had bought a stinker, ignored your advice and sided with the shop to save face maybe??? However he will now be cursed with a crap set up. I'd ask one thing from your experience if you EVER see that bass appear in the for sale section on this forum PLEASE give us a warning I'll finish by saying don't let one mans lack of foresight mar all the satisfied customers you have. He who choses to ignore good advice, often ends up on his ass! -

Played my first gig with a new band last night www.jumppressa.com There are 6 of us with guitars changes (acoustics, electrics with altered tuning) keys, 3 vocal, 3 guitars etc. so you can imagine how thrilled the sound guy was One band were kicked out due to their drummer being under age and collared by the bouncers when seen drinking some contraband and then a 2nd band didnt play for reasons still unknown...... So all in all a good show - decent crowd and no doubt would have been bigger had the other two bands actually played. I was trying out a new rig (see signature) and it was totally reliable, great tone and presence on stage and the sound guy was pleased. Threw in a few christmas covers given the JPA twist and they sounded great. If any of you cats are around Edinburgh in Feb come check us out - dates to be confirmed. I would like to mention the promoter, who's name I shall exclude as it could have been an off night for them, who really, having spoke to them, should know better. Gig was under promoted, not in any listings papers sites and while they said the venue had a responsibility to do that and thats why they paid the venue why take that chance? Im standing there last night trying to understand why having brought 30- 40 ppl to watch the gig we come away making a loss! Then running over how they had poor communication, didnt help co-ordinate back line and then tried calling us literally as we arrived with the bass rig to say there was a bass combo on site. They 'didn't know' if there would be a sound check even though we sent them a list of our set up, explaining about acoustic guitar and keys needing DI etc. expecting them to have forwarded this to the venue sound guy. Said the venue had changed sound guy but never though to get his email or phone number and make contact ( they arrange gigs in this place all the time) Then had the cheek to say we ran over by 5 mnutes on our set - this is after 2 bands pulled out and they had an hour to fill!!! To all would be promoters don't expect anyone to do promotion on your behalf - if the listing sites get the same info twice then your sure that your gig will be promoted - if those same papers don't get any then your gig will not be promoted and you WILL lose money. Band appreciate good communication and if you can offer to help co-ordinate things then do - most bands will network among themselves and left to their own devices will manage back line themselves if the venue doesn't Still gig went well but why should we have to put up with inept promoters.

Platypus Of course I forgot to send you a pick of the new s/p on. Now all I need is a black one for those death metal gigs

Had great service too and my next set of strings will be via these guys fo' sho!

Hi there To describe the sound can be a mine field but .......as a Lakland Forum poster described it when someone asked what pick up was in his Skyline 08 BG? "If its the fattest sounding p/u you've ever hear its the Lakland p/u!" This is my Minkster with a lovely tort dress on. Ain't she purdy! What I'll say about the tone is that this bass sounds great through the range of the tone and volume knobs. It responds well and you can hear the difference i.e. if you have the tone and volume opened up on full and use a pick (with my preferred amp setting) I get a really nice edge to the tone - great for emulating that ampeg tone. Rolling back the tone knob and the volume slightly and playing with fingers yields a thicker, fatter tone. I basically set my preamp one way for the gig and adjust my playing style and the controls on the bass to get different sounds. It is very rewarding. The neck is great and the spacing is good for me. If you get the chance play one of these basses!

Had one of the Rivera era 80's Bassman amps rated about 18watts and it was great sounding amp but never loud enough for serious gigs - these seem good but a lot of dime considering what you can get for your money these days. Sound good though
-
Hey you should get down to the room this w/e if you can - wecan hook up the ampeg and the Matamp via the WT1000 that should dish out plenty of watts Cab looks great - if it sounds as good as i think I may invest in one in the new year also.

Jacko bought a pre off me a few months back. Really nice guy, some lovely basses and a pleasure to deal with. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him or deal with him again.

Been there and done that Guitarist thought he was great - couldn't bend a note properly and thought he was superior to the drummer who to be honest wasnt that great. Problem was he always talked thrash to the drummer if he messed up and then would say things like 'you and me understand music' etc all the while he was playing in drop D and couldn't tell you the names of the notes he was playing - this song is 9 7 7 5 9 7 5 3 ??? WTF is tht a fone number? This was from the guy who understood music. The best bit was when I made a suggestion to try a riff so I took his guitar (which had the worst set up ever - i actually believe he got it new that way from the shop and never had a set up done on it which is a minus point alone) so he came back to the next practice telling me he had learned the riff and proceeded to play something i have never heard or played before... I tried to correct him and his excuse and I sh*t you not was....'maybe you played it wrong or forgot how your song went when you showed it to me yesterday because this is what you showed me to play. I flipped out and asked him just what type of mental health problem he had that would make him think I had taught him the song wrong just so I could correct him and quickly left the band thereafter! Some people!

Did some business recently and it was painless. Will happily recommend to other users.

Thanks and likewise it was a pleasure dealing with you too. I was getting the bass set up and the tech fitted it for me. He was very impressed with the quality. Top seller with good communication and a fair price.
