1.
great thanks! got it from Cricklewood Electronics.

Now for the next question, as i have zero knowledge in electronics where can i get them replaced?
it seems like a very easy job for a professional.
I'll do it for the price of a pint if you post the bits to me (I'm assuming the preamp is an onboard preamp, not something that'd cost $$$ to post). PM me if you're interested.

  2.
hey all.

Im looking to cutomise and replace some parts in my MEC preamp.

the parts im looking for are TL072 and TL074 to replace the TL062 and TL064.

Does anyone have any idea where i can find them online? everywhere i look it seems as if i'll have to buy a bulk of them, or spend more than 100£ on an order.
I only need one of each.

If the internet is not the right place, maybe somewhere around central london?

    thanks
    Ito.
Maplin Electronics have shops in various parts of London, they'll have them. Or Cricklewood Electronics.

  3.
I have for sale four 10 inch, 4 ohm drive units by the British Hi-Fi company Kef. They are used in their 250 watt subwoofers.
The units are un used and retail at £102 each.
Would suit a custom 4x10 cab.
    Pics to follow.......

    £120 including postage, or
Do you have any technical specs (or part number)?

Hifi subwoofer speakers are nearly always very inefficient so it might not be a very loud 4x10 but I'm interested...

  4.
Yeah.
That dreaded time of year is coming and we have a couple of gigs lined up and need to included some xmas songs to liven up the party. We currently do Slade's Merry Xmas, but need a couple more maybe. Good singalong, easy to play, everyone knows them classics.

    What are your choices???

    Mark
No Xmas for John Queays by the Fall.

  5.
no, i placed an order with BK Electronics. and in my stupidity, assumed that Stevie was talking about them.
No stupidity - BK is what was being discussed, Stevie didn't mention Hypex (about whom I've heard only good) til after you mentioned your bad experiences with BK.

  6.
ok, embarresed admition coming up

i only skim read that post and assumed he was talking about BK... whoops! :)

anyway, i've e-mailed them now to see if they can help. considering other options as well. when things are sorted there will be a thread to share.

    and finally.
"600 watts is a bit too much and so is the price!"
i thought the exact oposite, 'i suppose 600w will do, especially at that price!'
so- who is the company that f***ed you about? Hypex? I was going to buy some of their stuff...

  7.
Just for reference, the Er15 data is as follows....

    Freq (Hz) 125 250 500 1K 2K 4K 8K
    Att (db) 17.5 17.6 18.0 16.3 17.3 15.8 20.8

This equates to an almost flat graph and a much more 'natural' sound.
I stand corrected!

    I said, *I STAND CORRECTED!!!*

  8.
It is off "The Kids Are Alright" DVD Special DVD Edition SVE3050 Sanctury Records.

Released in 2004 and recorded in 1979
Wonderful film.

Also worth seeing (and contains some of the same footage) is Amazing Journey. Includes a very moving interview with Roger Daltrey.

  9.
That sound was something special - Alembics and whatever was giving the fuzzzzz. I never could understand what happened to his sound later, the stuff I've heard with Warwick and Status basses just sounds thin and over effected to me...but I'm sure this is more to do with his choice of effects/signal chain than the basses themselves?
The sound on Live at Leeds was pretty special, too (amazing considering the pissy sounds everyone else was getting at the time) and that was just a Precision and a wall of Hiwatts.

  10.
That's good to hear about the necks, I like quite a deep profile. I'm one of the few that loves Warwick's bolt-on necks.
yeah, the necks are geet big solid things. Much deeper than my CIJ Precision.

That's good for avoiding dead spots, right?

  11.
I guess the next question would be then, where can I find MIJ basses? They don't seem to common round my area (Norwich)
Hello! Me again.

    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=30204&hl=

  12.
A used MIJ at around £250-300 is your best bet. You'll get an MIA for £450-500, but the quality of the US models is far more variable than the Jap counterparts, and most guys who have a good MIA won't let it go for that sort of price anyway.
    Chris
What he said.

  13.
I dont mean to be picky and I have already upset Burpster, BUT you guys keep coming up with cheaper alternatives to the ER's that are frankly crap. Look at the attenuation published on their website:

CE Mark attenuation data (sorry cant get it to format properly.

    Freq. (Hz) 63 125 250 500 1k 2k 4k 8k
    Mean attenuation 13.9 16.1 19 22.7 25 32.2 41.1 36.9

Thats not exactly flat! Great if all you want to hear is bass mind!
Picky is good.

But I reckon that's probably not too different from any other plug. Low frequencies are always harder to stop.

    Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fletcher-Munson_curves

  14.
Nope, that's exactly what I want to hear :)

I've even been through the unofficialwarmoth.com board and can't even find anyone on there who's been unhappy.

Once I've got my ultra simple P, the next step will be to pimp-up my Warwick Corvette to the max - active everything, switchable everything, etc, etc and then get/build a classic-style Jazz to cover the middle ground :-)
I've posted a few times here saying how much I like them, so in the interests of balance I've been trying to find something I don't like about them.

All I can think of is that I got some dodgy advice one time - I asked if I could place a P pickguard on a dinky P body as a template to drill through the control holes and they said yes. If I'd done that I'd have missed the control cavity.

Other than that, and the fact that they have low resale value, still love 'em.

  15.
Have a look at a pic of any P-Bass. Then wait until you have the strings on, tune the top two to a bit lower than normal (to allow enough slack to push them down but still tight enough that they don't flop about), rest the string tree on the strings in the position you saw in the pics, then push it straight down onto the headstock, taking care you don't force the strings sideways. Mark the screw hole position with a sharp object - the screw itself will do if you can get enough pressure on it with your thumb to press into the wood slightly - and drill the hole.
Exactly what I did and it worked fine.

  16.
Folklore hath said that Norman went into the studio with his Alembic Series I (bought off of Luis Jardim who had two at the time!) played the relevant riffs (which Trevor sampled!) and got paid £500 for less than an hour's work! Nice one!

there was just a documentary on 6music, enititled "the look of love", charting 80's pop productions, and Trevor Horn described recording Two tribes- it took over a month to programme the bassline alone.....
So which is true? I'd heard that it was Norman.

  17.
Your kit seems a bit expensive..... try this company..... VERY very good.... (I have a couple of different pairs!)

    http://www.ultimateear.com/
plugs or IEMs? which ones?

  18.
And a reminder of the ear plugs sticky... many tales of woe and advice to be heeded!

    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=533
Can I slightly derail this thread and ask for recommendations for *really* comfortable (ie custom) and great-sounding in-ear monitors that'll double as hearing protection? I have narrow canals and haven't ever found earphones or earplugs that don't feel horrible.

Something for on-stage monitoring, in-rehearsal attenuation and on-bike entertainment. That's be lovely. Thanks!
