1. If it's from the Affinity range (small enclosed tuners) it's not that great a bargain. Otherwise, if the neck's good, I'd buy it.
 2.
it's a spoof, tell me it's a spoof...
I really couldn't tell either...either that or a tax on the rich and gullible.
 3.
Well there you go I think the mag on the Aria spools the look so I would take it off If I did not use it too, do you think the Aria is worth upgrading to from the Stagg or would you go up to something like a used Yamaha instead?
Yeah, it really looks like an afterthought doesn't it. I love the Aria, been recording it this past week and there's times it really sounds like a DB. A badly played DB mind...it's definitely a better instrument than I am a player. The Stagg has its own sound that is neither DB nor fretless, got lots of comments when I played it live about how 'big' it sounds.
 4.
A quick Q: I assume the Stagg just has a piezo pickup in the bridge? The Aria I had a go on had both magnetic and piezo pickups, the mag one sounding much better.
Stagg is piezo only, yes. I also have an Aria and personally I much prefer the piezo, so much that I'll probably remove the mag.
 5.
I think I would need a double bass, don't think they had invented the bass guitar in 1958!
They had - and done it so well it's yet to be improved on (mm, controversial ) Connie Francis was rocking our parents' worlds with something called 'Carolina Moon' when you and I first played air bass.
 6.
yes i will have it thanks
f*** off! I saw it first!
 7. I have an Ashdown dual compressor, boxed, 40 quid and it's yours
 8. Jonny Gee is a nice bloke and a great player - you did well to fill his shoes. Respect!
 9.
Cool how are you finding the EUB? are the strings rubbish, does it rattle, does the nut need filing down a bit? Plenty of questions Can you play it or are you a novice like me? I say novice mine is not even here yet so I am a minus novice really
The strings aren't awful considering they go for 20 quid, and are fine to get started on. The end pin is prone to rattling but is easily fixed with a bit of shrink-wrap and/or foam. I got mine second-hand and the nut had been filed down. It's surprisingly easy to play if you've played a bit of bass guitar or fretless, not that painful, but I've a long way to go before I'm consistently in tune!
 10. I love a happy story. http://www.andyviccarscustom.co.uk/catalog.php
 11. Few years ago in the days when I enjoyed prancing like a tit whilst on stage, fell flat on my face, splitting my trousers and breaking the jack off at the surface of the scratchplate. Support band's bassist handed me his bass; by the end of the following song our roady had dismantled my bass, fished out the bits of plug, put it back together, tuned it and hung it round my neck. God bless you Rod McKay fae Leith, wherever you are now (didn't bother repairing the trousers)
 12.
+1 I'm afraid. Also,
"Jimmy Page was 21 when he wrote 'Stairway to Heaven', I could play it when I was 18 - I think that says a lot..."
Is lifted from somewhere- possibly Spinal Tap
The Comic Strip's wonderful 'Bad News' actually.
 13. Give the guy a break, he was just having a moan about an annoying bloke at a gig and he did say he felt better for it.
 14.
I've seen the light - they're emailing me a set list, audition early in the new year. We're getting the band back together!
Lucky bastard. (what everyone else said!)
 15. Extremely unlikely that the master volume will affect the DI, whether it's set to pre or post. 'Post' almost certainly just refers to whether 'gain' and EQ have an effect.
 16.
In the end my wife just about knocked him out and then flung him out of the door of a pub we were playing in.
Go wife!
 17.
Brilliant.
Thanks for reminding me of this! Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_1nJPEs5SU
 18.
I still like vinyl, CDs AND mp3s - they all have their place
The Voice Of Sanity
 19.
Yes me too. Rehearsal room now provides back line etc so just taking bass and a clip on tuner makes life easy On another note ( pun very definitely intended ) if the low E struggles can't I just check that it is accurate at the fifth fret as an A or third as a G etc ??
Harmonic at the 12th fret.
 20. The title track has a great bassline, not demanding or anything, but just works. Like a lot of Saint John's bass lines weren't anything for a bassist to get excited about but did what was required (eg Substitute...?). (runs for cover)
 21.
Brilliant Can we borrow Marc Dave
Never mind borrowing Marc, we need to borrow Dave
 22.
I wonder if Bob Marley would have been the same without Familyman.
I always thought not, but I just learned that Robbie Shakespeare played on some of Catch a Fire.
If The Who got away with it, I think the sobering truth is... none of us are irreplaceable.
I don't think they did get away with it though. They stopped being The Who (for me anyway) when K. Moon died.
 23.
. But I believe USA mains is 220V, but put simply, its split in the middle, ie 110. 0. 110. Sockets and portable appliances work as 110v, but larger fixed, high current things, like cookers and water heaters are connected across the two and are 220V. Otherwise you'd need cables an inch thick to feed the average house.
I'd always wondered how they got 3kW out of 110V, cheers for that!
 24.
There's nothing to lose by trying the practice amp with the bass turned down with your regular cab. It's not how it will sound in the cab though. The practice amp may be lending it's own tone and you will be using the volume control to balance the speakers. The next stage will be to try the speaker only connected in parallel to your 15. If you get a reversible electrolytic of about 10-20 microfarads and connect it in series this will filter out most of the bass and act as a simple crossover (actually a high pass filter). if you are still encouraged then you could go on to look at a better small speaker to partner your 15 and a proper crossover. The small 'tweeter' will need to be in its own sealed box built as small as practicable inside your main cab. If you like fiddling this will give you no end of fun, it might even improve your sound and you'll learn loads. If you just want a good sound and don't have this sort of curiosity then there's better ways. Me, I'd fiddle. Have fun.
^All this ^. I have one of these http://www.thomann.de/gb/eminence_alpha_8mr.htm in a cab with a 15. It's got a closed back so you don't need to partition it off. I'm driving it with its own amp, but it'd work well enough with a series cap as Phil describes.10uF will cross over around 200Hz and protect the speaker from the excesses of the bass.
