1. Thanks Gareth. Yes, I was looking at that option when my head was turned by the Ultralites. I will probably end up going down this path. I need a replacement quick as this is my only bass at the moment so it will come down to what I can obtain quickly. Terrible timing as I ordered a Sandberg back in April to use as a second bass and it it due in the next few weeks. John
2. Hi All. I have just broken one of the Schaller tuners on my 1988 Mk1 Wal Custom and am considering replacing the entire set with Hipshot Ultralites. Can anyone tell me if I need the 1/2" or 3/8" Ultralite variants? Thanks John
3. I would be snapping one of these cabs up if I didn't already own one. Superb cabs and this is a great price.
4. Lovely bass. I really hate being a left hander.
5. The Sandberg I ordered back in April won't be delivered for another month at least yet I am getting hot and bothered over a Maruszczyk Jake. I am also eagerly anticipating the Darkglass head.
6. I have just bought the Kindle version and am looking forward to reading it.
7. Why not just go for a good external USB audio interface? Lots of good options with the added bonus of being able to do low latency recording so you will get some added bass value. A few examples to check out are Steinberg UR22 or the Focusrite Scarlett series. John
8. Off topic but I have just listened to a few of your recordings and love the band and the playing. I live in Glasgow and will make a point of seeing you live.
9. My first proper bass. I had the left handed version and loved it so much. I sold it to help finance my Wal and still bitterly regret its loss.
10. Thanks so much for this. I am in the market for a new head and agonising whether just to go for the Genzler, wait for the Mesa Subway D-800 to come back into stock or hang on to see what the Darkglass head does. So tempted just to go for the Genzler as I took delivery of a new Vanderkley 210MNT and have no head at the moment.
11. Hi I have sent you a PM.
12. Hi. Is this bass still available? Thanks John
13. Is this still available?
14. I contacted them about a refinish recently and got a reply the same day. Extremely helpful.
15. I have had my Wal since new and could never part with it.
16. Linn stopped making CD players a while back and moved to digital streaming devices. Naim is also undergoing a similar transition. I have a Linn Makik DS-I http://www.linn.co.uk/digital_stream_players which is superb. I have ripped all of my CDs to lossless format and the convenience of having instant access to all you music cannot be understated. I can stream to the Linn or to any other computer or DLNA device in my home. All of my music in every room at any time = bliss.
17. I am talking about the tail and not the saddles. You end up trying to force a B string into a slot cut for a G sting or even a C string on a Sixer. I owned a Thumb 5 and two Thumb 6's and they were all the same.
18. Steer clear if you are a lefty. They fit right handed tail pieces and the slots are not wide enough to accommodate a E or B strings without a bit of DIY with a file.
19. Have a bump on me. I Had a lefty way back in 82 and bitterly regret letting it go.
20. Devices | VST Instruments and load the VST you want. In the VST instruments windows click the icon that looks like an arrow pointing right out of a square to the left of the VST name. This will give you a list of the available outputs to activate.
21.
At the risk of being hated and shunned.......Graeme Clarke, Wet Wet Wet's bass player is hugely underated, I reckon anyway.
I recorded with him several times in the mid 80s and his playing was jaw dropping. Some of the early demos had basslines that would silence a room full of musos. He played mostly fretless at that time. His recorded output was produced and controlled in my opinion but that is what happens in pop. That was 20 years ago and I don't doubt that he could still play many of us under the table if he got the chance. He was a really nice guy too giving up his time for free to help other people's projects
22. I just wanted to say hi and declare myself as a fellow lefty. I sold my two Warwick 6 strings last year and now only have my Wal Custom which will never be for sale. Great idea this.
23. Thanks for the memory. I used to have a Verithin which played and recorded beautifully. I wish I still owned it.
24. +1 for Merchant City Music. The service is always excellent.
25. It's funny you say that as I have always thought of Derek Forbes and JJ to be similar in that way they created a uniquely identifiable playing style. They also had similar energy levels.
