1.
Only the same as with dying any other wood; get an offcut if you can from any decent timber yard & practise on that. Maple is a close grain long cell hard wood, (there again balsa has the same generic classification - go figure as our US cousins say) - so it could be a job & a half. Me - I prefer maple - so I wouldn't even think about it Personally I'd say avoid those poly varnishes with a built-in dye - they're cr*p with a quadruple P.
Thanks Big Stu , it's not set in stone yet really ,I was just wondering if anyone had any success or otherwise ! I may just go with a vintage maple look instead ! Easier and cheaper !
 2. For my VERY slow project I need some new machine heads . The holes in the headstock are 12 mm diameter . Can anyone recommend a set please . Thanks in advance , Mike
 3. Anyone ever done it , or tried to do it ? Any tips ?

 9. I have a set of Rotosound flats for sale . They've only been on my MIM P for a week ( fitted by Jon Shuker last Saturday ) an experiment that didn't work , too stiff for me . Ungigged , just played a for a couple of hours all in all . I paid £29 including p&p , so £15 posted is reasonable I think . Thanks Mike SOLD !!!!!!!
 10.
New pants please.... That's amazing.... I'm a sucker for a pearloid plate and it must be the most versatile bass ever made. What's the verdict????
Hi Everybody , thanks for your comments Love 'em Well what can I say .... It's built like a tank and weighs almost as much ! Swamp Ash - bloody 'ell ! Whilst it is heavy , for me that's ok as it balances perfectly . The pick-ups give me all the sounds that I wanted . The 51 at the neck gives a kind of Humbucker sound but without too much boom . Vintage P , for that Vintage P sound ! And the J for any zing that I may require ! Thump , Honk , Clank , Boom ( a little ) it's all there .. After some experimenting and dialling I'm tending to favour the 2 P pick-ups for some serious Thunder ! It's a beautiful looking Bass , very classy . My pics really don't do it justice . Jon Shukers workmanship should really be seen " in the flesh " as it were , to be truly appreciated .

 22.
I don't think any of them are 'somewhat forgotten'! Youre right of course ! But a lot of the players in the thread I dont know much about , if anything ,so I just thought I'd add some of the players whose stuff inspired me to pick up a Bass and want to play , especially the top 6
