1. Absolutely. Check out Daf Lewis on this site. He's selling an old Boosey & Hawkes plywood back when they were built like tanks. I think he's asking around £1000 but it'll sound better than most of the pine Chinese stuff out there and will take a hammering - (humidity and playing wise).
2. I've got a spare copy if you want it Daf he he. Thats the girls version anyway - do 'the mans' octave one! Oh, and Hector don't worry about your thumb. Just keep EVERYTHING relaxed, with particular eye on your bowing arm as the tension always begins there. Best regards brave soldier. D
3. They're fine, but also check out www.musicalchairs.info It's where the pros flog their instruments. Regards, D
4. Did you sell the permanent low C? I'll have it off you if its in good nick.
5. Dude, sorry, I didn't realise you were doing the same thing. I'll bump you ahead of me! (Funny isn't it - a few months ago people were desperate for five string fretlesses!)
6. Can't seem to downsize my 4mb images bump. Sorry - I will figure it out!
7. Sorry, having trouble uploading images. Its mint though!
8. I bought this lovely bass from The Gallery around two months ago for £530. Its a rather convoluted reason for sale. Abridged version is that I am a double player and have had trouble with the fretlines. I have now been kindly loaned an unlined Stingray. The bass is immaculate and still has the sticker over the pickup. Its never been out the house. The action is on the slightly higher side - personal preference because I'm used to double bass, but it still has a great growl. I know for a fact that these basses are getting scarcer and scarcer. Lead time on a new one is currently around four months. If you want to hear one in action, theres some great stuff on youtube. It might also be worth mentioning (something I intended to do), that by sticking a Bartolini BC bridge pickup and NTBT preamp in it, you effectively turn this into an absolute powerhouse, pretty much equal to the GWB1005 which costs in the region of £2,500! This will cost you around £200 + labour but has been achieved many times as various talkbass threads will testify! I've dropped from £400 to £370 final offer as this is essentially out of the box. I'm based in Shepherds Bush for collection or I'm happy to meet anywhere in or near the London area. KEN SMITH TRADE OPTION : If anyone wants to part with their Ken Smith (any condition or model but must be fretted and 5 string), then I would trade this and my Bacchus Impression hand-made 5 string. This bass is also in mint condition and is a serious pro quality super jazz. See pictures below. I will be happy to give you further specs. Here is a link to a review about this bass (although mine is only three years old) : http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...Impression/50/1
9. Don't be daft. Wait for them on Ebay like everybody else! Just procured a new set of Velvets for £70 on there... DON'T buy Belcantos though. They have an alarming (not to mention dangerous) knack of unravelling, and their pizz is crap. I've got an almost new set of Flat-chromes if you're interested? I'll be honest in that they are old school bruisers, but they are one of the dearer strings out there.
10. I've been toying with the idea of putting solo strings on my orchestral bass, as its not as responsive as I would like with the standard. However, I would rather not pay £150 - £200 on an experiment, so if any of you kind people have a spare or old set of solos and want to sell at a reasonable price, do please let me know. Regards, Damon

15. Sorry, got confused!! Thought it was too good to be true! I'm the lookout for a 5 string fretless (pref lined) for around £600 if anyone can oblige.
16. Yep, buy the Petracchi. Its medieval, but will sort out your core finger strength in thumb. Take it slowly though (particularly exercise 4!) A good german bow also helps :brow:
17. Yes, I have a Hawkes bass which has a temperamental G. The nearest I can get to explaining, is that it whines between the b and d in neck positions and probably caused by a wolf issue. It got alot better once I had a C extension fitted (don't ask me why?!) Also, try a softer string such as belcanto or obligato as this helps too.
