1. Anyone interested in a swap? Slightly unusual request, in that due to my poor eyesight, I have become pretty much dependent upon neck leds for playing on dark stages, so I am looking to exchange my 2004 SKJOLD EXOTIC CUSTOM for a similar quality bass with the all important missing leds! I really dont like the idea of fitting leds to this bass, as its absolutely beautiful, unmarked and I guess too good to be bashed about at the kind of gigs we do. I usually gig with my ACG or Sei, which have leds of course, or sometimes use my Lakland Joe Osborne, again lit up. Its such a shame to leave a brilliant bass on a rack when someone should be using it. Is there anyone out there who might be interested in a swap? It would have to be an interesting bass, in mint condition as this one is, perhaps a newer Status/Sei or whathaveyou. Just looking for a change I suppose! Its a model that was made by Pete as a show demo piece, wth spalted beech top, 7 piece neck, gorgeous Bocote fingerboard, 35" scale (but the bridge is set way down so you dont even notice the length). EMGs are fitted, with recessed straplocks, absolute top quality fittings, and even the back is bookmatched beech. Its a long shot, but any interest out there? New, this bass would be something over £2,500. Added 27th December: As the swap idea was a long shot, I will now sell for £1,250. 3rd January: PRICE REDUCED TO £1,100!
2. QUOTE Wow Bob, thats very nice! Could i ask a couple of questions? What does it weigh ? I know Wenge has a rep for being heavy. Scale? i assume 34" Does it have the asymetric neck profile? String spacing at nut? What do those big humbuckers sound like? Sorry that's a lot of qs. but it may be worth you putting some up in the ad too. All the best Jules Hi Jules. It is quite heavy, I cant deny. Its only the top facing thats wenge though, so its not too bad. I dont actually have any suitable scales, but I would guess at 9 1/2-10lb? Its a 34" scale, and it does have the asymetric neck profile Alan puts on most of his basses. I understand he built it for himself, before deciding to sell it, which is why it has the neck binding and the large humbuckers, which together with the preamp give it a very full sound. I know it might sound odd, but I have hardly played it, as I just had a feeling that 5 strings werent right for me and I had made a mistake buying it. The string spacing at the nut is 1cm. Cheers, Bob
3. ACG Harlot Singlecut 5 string and Hiscox hardcase Alan has kindly mentioned this bass in his section, but I thought it would be useful to display the details here as well. I bought her from Alan a couple of months ago, brand new, with the intention of learning 5 string. It didnt take me long though to realise that I really am not a 5 string player, and thought it would be better to let someone else get the enjoyment of this wonderful, craftsman made work of art, and I would order another 4 string from ACG to add to the 2 others I have or have on order. £950 for a quick sale. The details from Alan's website are: 0025 Harlot S Type Flame Sycamore with a Wenge top. 7 piece Flame Sycamore/wenge neck with a birdseye maple bound Mac Ebony finger board. ACG EQ01 pre-amp with ACG FB pickups ceramic magnet in the bridge Alnico magnet in the neck. Satin chrome Hipshot Type A bridge and matching Ultralites. Chrome knobs and Schaller Straplocks. Finish lacquer. [attachmen t=17291:Harlot5.jpg]
4. Google "Kam led parbar (or par bar)", and you will get details of what looks like a brilliant system of leds for bands. I have just ordered two of them today, to go with the led lights we already use (which are brilliant and came from Thomanns)
5. PRICE REDUCTION TO £650, but I can't go any lower sorry. Next stop, ebay!
6.
To the un-tutored ear there is no discernible difference in tone between a genuine Hofner Violin and a genuine Hofner Club. To the experienced and well-tutored Hofner enthusiast, there is almost no discernible difference in tone between a genuine Hofner Violin and a genuine Hofner Club. If you play flatwound strings on a short-scale hollow-body Hofner, you get an incredibly flat thuddy sound near the nut and a wonderfully musical thuddy sound anywhere above the 5th fret. It's absolutely a 'Marmite' sound, you either love it or hate it. But don't waste your time comparing it to other basses ... there's zero point in saying it's better or worse than a P-bass or a Ricky, it's just different.
You are absolutely correct. If you like the sound, there is nothing else I know of that can do it better. I have never tried one with roundwound strings on though, so maybe that would make it sound a bit more like a "normal" bass!
7.
How close does it sounds to the old Macca's violin bass. I tried that one in a shop in Germany and I almost flipped out from the sound that it produced. very Double bassy.
I wouldnt like to say, as I havent got near his to try it out (although I do know one of the kids who were on the Mull of Kintyre video shoot with him and Linda on the beach near their farm all those years ago........), but as it is supposed to have the same electronics and build, I would guess its pretty close? It certainly sounds the same as a non-used-by-Macca violin bass I tried a while back. Bob
8.
Oh man, Is this korean made? is it hollow-body? Id need an ampeg or something similar to get the best out of this beast.
Hi. No, its the real thing. Made in Germany, VERY hollow bodied, weighs almost nothing. Short scale, has a brilliant tone and is so easy to play, as long as you are not a fat so and so like me! Bob
9.
Oooh, that's nice! Unfortunately I have no 60's work to justify one, but best of luck with the sale Rich.
Many thanks Rich. It plays more modern songs as well, but I think you have to re programme it! Cheers, Bob
10. Here is a bass that I really dont want to sell, but being a bit, well, portly in the belly department, I have had a great deal of trouble trying to find a way that I can wear it on stage without the body sliding up and over my overhang a la Ovation bowlbacks! I have tried every strap you can think of, over belly, under belly (just silly) etc., but I can really only play it sitting down. None of my friends have the slightest problem with it, so its obviously just my shape. Its the black and gold limited edition, with the fitted aluminium Bullet case (which has a few storage scratches), and is in excellent condition. As well as the standard knobs, there are a set of matching black knobs in the case, and flats are fitted at present. I'm not asking a silly price (£695), as I would like to see it go to a good home, but if there are no takers and I have to use ebay, dont be surprised if its a bit dearer! I dont really want any trades thanks, as I appear to have far too many basses again, and have just ordered another 2 ACGs as well, so I might have a bit of a clear out in the weeks to come. The funny looking marks on the photos are all light reflections, NOT marks on the bass!!! Before I put it on ebay, a price reduction to £650. Thats it - can't go any lower!
11. Last price reduction before it goes back in its case till the day I need it (new ACG arrived yesterday. Absolutely brilliant!) £895, and its a bargain at that. WAY less than I paid for it last year. Cheers, Bob

13. WILKINS Jazz This bass is new in every respect, down to the polythene on the scratchplate, and was hand built by Pat Wilkins in the States, using a neck and body made for him to the highest possible standards in Japan. Pat is well known for his work in finishing custom basses and guitars for the top echelons of rock, and is also responsible for finishing Lakland USA basses, which are reknowned for their flawless paint jobs. He also builds a very small number of basses each year himself, and in this case, his goal was to make a Jazz bass to the highest standard possible, without the final cost entering the usual stratospheric level that his instruments attain. To do this, he commissioned a Japanese luthier to build a neck and body out of the best materials (and the quality really has to be seen to be believed), ship it to him in the States, and there Pat himself installed the Demeter pre amp, Dimarzio pickups, straplocks, quality fittings, etc, and then finished it off with one of his legendary paint jobs. What a finish! The colour is ever so slightly off white with a pearlescent glaze, the neck is like silk, the frets are wonderful,, there is even a bottle of Pats own concoction of guitar polish in the case. All topped off with a tortie pickguard. This is a light guitar, easy to play, and if it wasnt for the fact that I have too many basses, and a new ACG on the way, no way would I sell her. Fact is, the music I play doesnt need a top quality jazz bass, so it has sat on my rack for a year now since I bought it. Everyone who has played her has remarked on what an unbelievable instrument she is, one local musician even going so far as to say better than any Fender Jazz he had ever played, irrespective of price or vintage.I would guess that to ask Pat to build another one now would cost you well over £2,000. I am looking for £950 please, and she really is worth every penny of that. 14. Some of you may have seen this bass before - its a US JO underneath with an East Retro pre, and its absolutely brilliant! I gig with it all the time, it has neck leds, and with the Sims paint job a la Clapton it never fails to get noticed and praised. I havent touched my Pedullas since I got it. 15. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=011 I know I would say it, but I really think this bass is something special! I gig with my Lakland Joe Osbourne though, so have never used it in anger. Would love to see her go to a good home.
16.
I'm interested in the Money bass in Natural. Where are you based? Thanks, Ed
PM sent. Bob
17. Hi Ed. Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. PM me anytime. Cheers, Bob
18. 3 brand new Gibson USA basses for sale, individually or as a job lot! 2 Les Paul "Money" limited edition basses, and an SG "Supreme" bass, all immaculate with hard cases. I bought one of the LPs and the SG to use for practices and as back up basses, but as the market in the USA seemed to be temporarily flooded with them for sale at good prices, I bought an extra LP with the intention of hanging on to it for a while in case it bacame a collectors item. I understand only 400 of the Money basses were made. However, I need the space, as apart from fitting straplocks to one of the LPs and the SG, I havent really touched them since they arrived, and I have bought a few more expensive basses recently after suffering GAS attacks, and have an ACG on order as well. They do sound really nice, very "rock & roll", and dont have any Gibson issues, being nicely made and all there! I am only asking pretty much exactly what they cost to buy, ship and pay duty on, which equates to about half of the UK retail value, with a special deal if you want all 3! They are as follows: Gibson USA "Money" bass in blue. Flamed top, gloss finish. Ceramic pickups. This was the "investment" bass. £625 Gibson USA "Money" bass in flamed natual, over a mahogany body. Matt finish. Straplocks fitted. £625 Gibson USA "SG Supreme" bass, short scale with straplocks. Matt finish. £650 £1,800 for the whole collection! Thanks for looking.
19. Hi. It really is lovely! Its a 35" scale. Cheers, Bob
20. SEI FLAMBOYANT 5 string bass and new hardcase. It really pains me to sell this gorgeous bass, but after much ham fisted practice, I have concluded that me and 5 strings just dont go together. As one of my lovely band members put it, "you only play old man bass"! She is in excellent condition, and is featured on the SEI website. The body core is zebrano, with beautiful burr maple front and back facings with accent lines. The 7 piece through neck is laminated flame maple and zebrano, with the headstock veneered front and back as well, and the fingerboard is ebony. Green leds are fitted to the fingerboard edge, controlled by a pull pot, and the pre amp is a Demeter 9v unit. The control cavity covers are cut from the same wood as the facings, and straplocks are included. The pickups are the jewel in the crown, being LANE POOR soapbar units, mounted slightly closer to the bridge than is normal. The sound is absolutely superb, and playabilty is beyond question. There is a passive option, together with another toggle switch which I am ashamed to say I have never discovered the function of! A new hardcase is included. I am looking for £1,450 please. I have to fund my new ACG (4 string) which should be nearing completion soon!
