AS a complete EUB novice can you (or a previous owner of this bass) let me know what the action is like and what state the strings are in (age, condition etc)? Cheers.
Hi. The strings look as good as new (I understand that the bass has been very lightly used), and the action, which is easily adjusted by screws under the bridge, is actually low for an eub. Most full size eubs I have dabbled with seem to have had higher actions. The strings are expensive D'addario Helicore Hybrids. Cheers, Bob

I took this superb bass in part exchange from loudandclear recently, and really, I meant to learn to play it. After getting over my delusions of adequacy though, I quickly realized that my hands just aint big enough for a full scale eub, and my previous dalliances with a tiny little Kydd upright have spoiled me. This is really a wonderful instrument, and sounds, even in my talentless hands, out of this world. Its in brilliant condition, and has the dual pickup system (EMG mags and piezos, which can be set for plucking or bowing) with full 18v electrics. As well as a super sturdy tripod, it also has the optional (£200) endpin stand with brace which can be used instead, giving you more freedom on stage, and has a fitted gigbag with storage for the stand/bow etc. I cant fault the bass, similar models to which I have seen selling in the past for well over the grand mark, but as it was valued in the part exchange at £900, for a really quick sale thats what I am selling for. I thought it was a bargain when I did the deal, and nothing has happenned to change my mind. I just cant do it justice, thats all! Alan couldnt have been more helpful. Delivered the amp I bought (which is superb!) all the way from Preston to Gloucestershire, and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Cheers! Bob

Etienne just bought my Tacoma Thunderchief and drove all the way from the 'pool to pick it up. A delightful chap, and an absolute pleasure to do business with! Bob
I played this beauty yesterday at Bob's place- believe me, it sounds amazing! So much so, that for a moment I seriously considered taking this home instead of the Tacoma Thunderchief I had actually come to buy! It gets very close to Macca's sound with a pick, and sounds amazing fingerstyle- such a fat and woody tone! The bonus is that it's laughably light in weight as well- you could play this standing up all day and not feel any discomfort afterwards... Have a bump from me for a very nice man and a cracking bass! Etienne
Thank you for those very kind words! Its still for sale if anyone is interested? Cheers, Bob

This is so much fun to play! Its a 30" scale headless electric upright bass, on an extending, top class Manfrotto stand, fitted with an L R Baggs transducer. It can be played standing up, and even sitting down, and is tiny, but sounds absolutely superb. The solid body is made of mahogany, and the fingerboard is some kind of, unknown to me, figured hardwood, and it weighs almost nothing (for an eub). It has side dots, and being a short scale, you can whizz all over the fingerboard with no problems at all. Everyone who has played it at my house has really enjoyed themselves, but I have not gigged it or had any desire to sell, until now when I have decided to seriously cut back on my bass collection. The Kydd is certainly giggable, and was built in 1999. She is in very good condition, and comes with a Coffin gig bag, and a spare set of new strings. All the details are on the Kydd website, and to bring one to the UK would cost well over a grand. As with the Tacoma Thunderchief I also have for sale, I would consider a trade with a Wrawick Corvette $$, but thats the only trade I want. Otherwise, I would like £550 please. Postage will be no problem, for about £20.

I imported this bass a few years ago from the States, because I had read a review that said it was the loudest, unamplified acoustic bass on the market. I dont think the reviewer was too far wrong, especially if you play it with a pick. It has a large, but very light body, solid timbers (mahogany and spruce), and is in superb condition, with the exception of one little depression on the top, under the strings near the bridge (shown in one of the photos). I have no idea how it picked that up, but strongly suspect a low speed collision with a vacuum cleaner! Its really negligible though and doesnt show when you are playing it. Its fitted with an L R Baggs system, and has a superb tone, amplified or not. Although large bodied, its very comfy to play, and comes with a fitted hardcase. This has a couple of little scars, as believe it or not, when it was sent over from the states, the seller didnt pack it at all, just stuck a label on the case and sent it as it was! I would like £475 for it please, although I would be interested a swap for a Warwick Corvette $$? Thats the only thing though. It might be difficult to post because of its size, but I'm sure we could work something out.
Ditto, I have just fitted a set on my beloved Dolphin, and they work extremely well. Would recommend this to you as I was in the same boat recently, Fretfx are good to deal with and it is a doddle to fit and they are very subtle and work a treat. I didn't fancy someone butchering my gorgeous Warwick neck, and this was a great solution. If I remember correctly the kit cost me around 70 quid and took a couple of weeks to arrive. I have just acquired another Dolphin bass, and the previous owner had fitted a set on it, result. If you have any questions about them, let me know Cheers Stuart Hi Stuart. I have tried FretFX, both the older, led system and the new fibre optic one, and have had problems with both, I'm sad to say. The led system worked fine, but the wire connecting the leds was so thin and fragile that it broke within a few weeks of fitting it. Up till then it had worked fine on a PRS bass I had fitted it to. When I saw the new fibre optic system, I bought 2 sets (I still have one in the cupboard), but the special sticky tape for fitting the fibre optic to the neck was useless, and peeled off in no time, as well as being quite obtrusive when it was on. Seemed like a great idea, not very well executed. In addition, one of the light packs didnt work (they supplied 2 with each pack so that wasnt a major problem). I really wanted to like them, but too many problems for me, so its back to Sims. By the way, is there anyone else out there installing leds? I seem to remember there was a company on the Isle of Wight somewhere that did it? Bob
Anyone interested in a swap? Slightly unusual request, in that due to my poor eyesight, I have become pretty much dependent upon neck leds for playing on dark stages, so I am looking to exchange my 2004 SKJOLD EXOTIC CUSTOM for a similar quality bass with the all important missing leds! I really dont like the idea of fitting leds to this bass, as its absolutely beautiful, unmarked and I guess too good to be bashed about at the kind of gigs we do. I usually gig with my ACG or Sei, which have leds of course, or sometimes use my Lakland Joe Osborne, again lit up. Its such a shame to leave a brilliant bass on a rack when someone should be using it. Is there anyone out there who might be interested in a swap? It would have to be an interesting bass, in mint condition as this one is, perhaps a newer Status/Sei or whathaveyou. Just looking for a change I suppose! Its a model that was made by Pete as a show demo piece, wth spalted beech top, 7 piece neck, gorgeous Bocote fingerboard, 35" scale (but the bridge is set way down so you dont even notice the length). EMGs are fitted, with recessed straplocks, absolute top quality fittings, and even the back is bookmatched beech. Its a long shot, but any interest out there? New, this bass would be something over £2,500. Added 27th December: As the swap idea was a long shot, I will now sell for £1,250. 3rd January: PRICE REDUCED TO £1,100!

ACG Harlot Singlecut 5 string NO LONGER FOR SALE
bobpalt replied to bobpalt's topic in Basses For Sale
QUOTE Wow Bob, thats very nice! Could i ask a couple of questions? What does it weigh ? I know Wenge has a rep for being heavy. Scale? i assume 34" Does it have the asymetric neck profile? String spacing at nut? What do those big humbuckers sound like? Sorry that's a lot of qs. but it may be worth you putting some up in the ad too. All the best Jules Hi Jules. It is quite heavy, I cant deny. Its only the top facing thats wenge though, so its not too bad. I dont actually have any suitable scales, but I would guess at 9 1/2-10lb? Its a 34" scale, and it does have the asymetric neck profile Alan puts on most of his basses. I understand he built it for himself, before deciding to sell it, which is why it has the neck binding and the large humbuckers, which together with the preamp give it a very full sound. I know it might sound odd, but I have hardly played it, as I just had a feeling that 5 strings werent right for me and I had made a mistake buying it. The string spacing at the nut is 1cm. Cheers, Bob -
ACG Harlot Singlecut 5 string and Hiscox hardcase Alan has kindly mentioned this bass in his section, but I thought it would be useful to display the details here as well. I bought her from Alan a couple of months ago, brand new, with the intention of learning 5 string. It didnt take me long though to realise that I really am not a 5 string player, and thought it would be better to let someone else get the enjoyment of this wonderful, craftsman made work of art, and I would order another 4 string from ACG to add to the 2 others I have or have on order. £950 for a quick sale. The details from Alan's website are: 0025 Harlot S Type Flame Sycamore with a Wenge top. 7 piece Flame Sycamore/wenge neck with a birdseye maple bound Mac Ebony finger board. ACG EQ01 pre-amp with ACG FB pickups ceramic magnet in the bridge Alnico magnet in the neck. Satin chrome Hipshot Type A bridge and matching Ultralites. Chrome knobs and Schaller Straplocks. Finish lacquer. [attachmen t=17291:Harlot5.jpg]

Google "Kam led parbar (or par bar)", and you will get details of what looks like a brilliant system of leds for bands. I have just ordered two of them today, to go with the led lights we already use (which are brilliant and came from Thomanns)
