1. I'm pretty sure this, and another one have been mooching around graiglist for some time. I contacted both and amazingly, both 'owners' were from the Shetland/Orkney Isles. Happily offering to post btw. I offered to collect in person and never heard back.
 2.
I don't think anyone could be offended. I feel like a total anorak sometimes, but (as you can probably guess from my gear) I played in a Rush tribute for a while and studied such stuff in a lot more detail than any sane person would/should.
I did my dissertation on Progressive Rock and analysed Power Windows vs earlier music of Rush (basically analysing the stylistic nuances of prog rock); too true to say that once you analyse a piece of music in great detail, its amazing what you learn and therefore = geekoid!
 3.
At Igliston for both of those tours, if memory serves me right. If you're in Broadstairs, you're extremely local. Rock Candy is the only local band I play for, but we're not out playing just yet (although we're just putting the finishing touches on a few things & I expect we will be out there very soon). Who are you playing for?
erm - anyone who'll have me!! I do a few local acoustic duos (Mark smith, Jed, Gav alexander) and ocasionally stand in for local stuff like Blow, Llamas and so forth. Then I play with old friends from Medway (my hometown...) and whatever I can fit in. Thanet is what I call home these days. I teach at Christchurch uni. I'll have to check you guys when you're up and running. Get out and do a beer in folk week hey?!
 4.
Everybody stands anyway... I got a fairly passable Rick tone out of my (since stolen) Kay that fooled some people, but it required me to really dig in, a bad habit that I've never shaken...
haha - that happened to me. On my first ever recording, I was told to refine my technique as the fret were clattering as I hammered the strings! I did refine it but still like to dig in:) I must be fairly local to you - who do you play for?
 5.
As was the case with me and my Kay p bass copy
Haha - wicked! Good times:) Hope the gig is a blinder - I can't wait now!
 6.
I loved Les's bizarre style with the slap thing and the raking/strumming thing and tapping he did alongside it; yes, it was a fresh alternative to the more established old slappers like Mark King - but then I'm a massive Mark King fan too. Not surprised you feel uneasy taking the Carl Thompson out, but hey, get it out there and show people what it can do An amazing bass that needs to be seen (and heard!) I love Geddy's Rick tone, not to mention Chris Squier's too, and Bruce Foxton's and all the other great Rick players, but I've never really fancied one. Had a go of one years back and just didn't take to it
Yeah they sound great in the hands of foxton et al, but similarly, didnt work for me. The Thompson is getting use with my originals band but I think I'll avoid the local boozer! Its going to be a buzz seeing Rush again - I'm sure everyone has their own nostalgic era but it was exciting getting into bass back then and so many cool players were around and I had an immense time trying to make my Marlin sound like a Rickenbacker! (It didn't)
 7.
I'd got into the Primus stuff a bit before going to the Rush gig, so it was a bit of a double whammy for me. Did you get a Carl Thompson bass then?? Amazing looking things aren't they! Nice one.. As for Cetera, I'm assuming you mean a member on here and not Peter of Chicago fame Will check it out....
Haha yeah - at least I think so. Does the guy from Chicago now play in a KISS tribute? I'm glad they had Primus otherwise I may have missed that one and I was bored of the slap players I heard in the late 80s but Claypool seemed to make it a bit more 'attitude' for me so it was a changer for me. Yes - an amazing bass, although I shoved another EMG in it to get more tone. Trouble is, I'm terrified to take it to a lot of gigs!!! I always wanted a Rick, but I don't do a gig where I could use it. It was the coolest thing though - all hail...Geddy Lee!!
 8.
Nice to see so many of the BC brethren will be worshipping at the altar of Ged Some great posts here... Very envious of Bassassin and seeing all those tours!! Amazing mate! Regarding Primus supporting on the 'Bones tour, I actually got to meet Les Claypool after the Wembley Arena gig! He was hanging around at the back of the venue wearing a cowboy hat, me and my mates just went over and said hello. Don't remember much of what he said apart from him saying that England was far too cold! Enjoy the gigs fellas!
Cool!! Sadly after the bones gig I was still trying to work out if Primus was the best or worst band ever! It eventually sunk in that they were pretty important to the scene and very cool indeed. I totally loved his basses and took years to find out where to get one. I ended up getting one on the bay last year... I think Cetera has a wal geddy lee he had custom made; totally beautiful, check out his collection!
 9.
I'll be at Glasgow SECC - seen every tour since Moving Pictures & it would be a shame to miss out. Still wish they'd gone back into the studio & finished Clockwork Angels instead, though. Jon.
Hey Jon - with luck they'll tour that and come back again. zimmer frames et al.
 10.
I saw them 19 years ago at Sheffield Arena and Wembley Arena, on the Roll The Bones tour. Was great to see them and all, but had pretty sh*te seats for both gigs. This year I'm making up for it, with seats in the 2nd row at Birmingham!! On Geddy's side of the stage too!Did the whole join the fanclub thing, to get the presale ticket notification and got up early on the day to make sure of good seats and it paid off Pricey? Definitely, but i reckon it's gonna be worth it The sound might be an issue, being so close to the stage, but it'll be payback for looking at three tiny little figures in the distance 19 years ago Nice one Steve, would've loved to see Ged with his black Wal
It was mind-blowing; still is. I saw them on the Bones tour too; about 5 rows from front (would cost a fortune now) through the fanzine. Primus were also introduced to my musical influences that night:) I think I'm midway back this time - got on the o2 presale but couldn't afford the front! It doesn't matter - the visuals are so good and always a great experience:)
 11. Without a shadow of doubt. Hoping the O2 will sound better than Wembley has in the past. Tricky though with the amount of notes and the big sound for their mix to be perfect live, in every part of what is effectively a barn. It will be great though as always - my first gig I went to was them on the Hold Your Fire tour and that decided for me that I wanted to play bass! Still buzzing from that one:)
 12. Also, if not already mentioned, I think Colin Moulding of XTC used one.
 13. I think Peter Collins (Rush producer, amongst others) introduced Geddy Lee to the Wal, and thus began a new phase of tone for said bass player. Dire straits bassist also used one (if he hasn't been mentioned) and Rob Burns (TV sessions etc and tutor at basstech) used them extensively. they are fab!
 14.
I was talking to Doddy today about her, as he's just bought the Plantation Lullabies album. I think she's amazing. Her sense of groove is sublime and totally natural. Check out these tracks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpdzEpGIqtY Amazing bassline and sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDbRKB7oLEQ Just total groove, playing from the heart.
I think I first spotted her on glastonbury about 12 years ago and just looked up and thought 'what a great vibe and feel - and a cool voice'. So I rushed out and located some of her discs. Tot his day, I cannot pronounce her name correctly more than twice in a row.
 15. This is my recent addition...
 16. Chris, quite possibly you are crazy...! This is too nice to sell!! I sold 4 basses recently but I still have 12 instruments left; couldn't part with them as they all got their thing... I reckon you should keep, and be patient for an EUB. What make you looking for (those Steinbergers have too many dots!!)? I use an old Aria, and it's not bad. That said, nothing beats the creaky old sound of an acoustic. Irrespective - viewing types; Chris is a top bloke to deal with so you can buy without worry.
 17. Cool - I'll work from there! Yes - he always was sure to have top players. Always seemed totally comfortable doing his own thing in music - respect!
 18. Right - I posted this vid on facebook a while back because it is a great song, and the fretless playing wonderful; I know a fair bit about who played bass on what but I'm not sure about this one. Someone suggested Guy Pratt but I'm sure he would have mentioned this one in his book? Anyone know? I could hit google but I'm sure there's more savvy surfers out there than me!
 19. And a few others but these mofos are the poseurs of my collection.
 20. Indeed Pete is a good fellow to deal with... Updated any info I required and gave clear answers to my usual 150 questions. Posted immediately and stayed in touch at all times - thoroughly recommended for any future buying/selling. Thanks!
 21.
Sweet, that lavender ray is interesting I also saw an albert lee with a flamed maple top in pink burst or something like that in my local clown control before it closed down, i'm not one for pink finishes but my god it looked amazing! EDIT: i think it may have been one of these
I used to own a lavender 5 like that; lovely bass, and it looked great.
 22. I ised to use a DB (i think) - these were the 90s serier with a valve/solid state blend. sounded great, and my nephew has that rig now decade later. Marshall don't get much hype with bassists but it served me well for a long time.

 24. Thoroughly decent and patient chap, even offered me tea and biscuits in the first email (I had no heart to say I don't allow those in my diet anymore...!); Kept contact, was honest and kind enough to meet me and have a chat, oh, and sell me a lush bass. Nice, once again, to meet a good person, and a good seller. Steve R
 25. And ARSE - I thought I put a headstock pic up! Doh!
