2. Not sure if this should be simply put under 'wanted' but anyhow... Does anyone have a pdf/scan of any of the following, for bass/drums/guitar or simply a lead sheet: All in Red (It Bites) The Party (Marillion) Freewill (Rush) Sexx, sleep, eat, drink, dream or Dinosaur (King Crimson) I have an ensemble to run and I don't have time this weekend to transcribe the darn songs! Or anyone who has some savvy links on the worldwide web, please link me up! Thanks Steve
3. yes - now is the time to haggle if people want to get rid. Looks like a nice one. Let me know how you get on!
4.
Thanks for that, roughly what do you think they are worth these days? Hope to try and pick one up asap....
You know I can't remember what I paid, prob 300ish, but now I'm not sure. I think theres one on ebay at mo http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Washburn-MB-8-Ac...=item19c8382f94 if its still there? Good luck with the hunt!
5. I had one with a maple neck between 1994 and 1998; it was my first 'better than budget' bass and as close as I was ever going to get to something like a status... I loved it - just told a student to look out for one. Good slim smooth neck, good balance, light and the sound was as expected, pretty flexible. A bit 'hissy' on the highs of the active but otherwise, this and a little trace 15 combo were my friends until ventured into other waters. Snap one up, I say.

8. Swift to respond to emails, swift to send books, and a throughly decent guy to deal with.
9.
I thought they show was great and the set choice was, in the whole, very good. I was disappointed with Les's lack of communication to the audience. He spoke a bit here and there, but has a reputation of lots of very funny interaction which I hoped to of been treated to. The big let down was the venue sound. Very boomy, like the sound system was not cut out for the size (or height) of the room. The mid was all snare drum until half waythrough and we only really got treated to a good guitar sound for the encore! When they got it right, it sounded massive, but it took most the gig before the soundmen decided to tweak.. Shame. Still enjoyed it lots, was cool to hook up with Robbie (RIM basses) and Dood, and the show was very enjoyable. Let's not mention 'Hot Head Show's opening slot though... Urghhhh.
Peopl have the same thing with Rush - the prob with a band playing that many notes, especially in the low register must be pretty hard to mix with both 'weight' and definition. You're right about the snare though. Irrepective, performance-wise and set wise, very good. And the drummer was superb!
10. Primus kicked ass. Do I need say any more?
11. Doh! Erm, just covers - you know I still don't know as the guys are arranging a list for me to figure out! Probably a bit of Crowded House, Killers, Del Amitri, Rod Stewart - to be honest, whatever goes from singalong fun to decent songwriters stuff. Usual procedure is for me to fill out a bit of space but as there are two guitars I'll be refining it:)
12.
What are you playing ? I've seen all sorts at folk week, from folk to disco , its all good fun
just a pub called the Dolphin. Bottom of town opposite two other pubs. Have to have a drink hey? thats what everyone is there for!!
13. thurs 3-5pm at the dolphin...a trio has been (is being!) put together consisting of myself, a guy called Jed and a guy called Mark. But we arent playing folk!! So its a bit of fun really. Should be playing lots of other dates but we've all been a bit tied one way or another to get round to it.
14. See title... £115 - hardly used. Postage £10 or collect from East Kent. Going on ebay if it doesnt sell this week - please, if you can get it cheaper elsewhere then do, and if you like or dislike these please feel free to set up a topic discussing them! Thanks for looking. NOW SOLD
15. Just some feedback for Dave who was very informative with his selling and very honest. Friendly bloke to deal with and recommended. Thanks, steve.
16. Thanks guys - I feel less alone now! The pain has eased slightly but unfortunately Ive cut it right where I pluck the string...once it's healed I might feel I can play again!! If only I'd gone down the chinese instead...
17. For reasons I dont know I managed to cut my fingertip nearly to the bone whilst prepping dinner. This meant I had to play the entire gig tonite with my middle finger (plucking hand). I strongly recommend avoiding this technique. I know jamerson had the one finger thing but believe me it sucks. I reckon its the most tasteful I;ve ever played!!! Feel free to abuse me!
18. My CT all the way!
19. sorry to distract from thread intention - I played this bass today during a catch-up with Harry - if I needed another bass this would be a contender - stunning.
20. I was under the impression there was a double bass tutor at CCCU? I teach bass for Christchurch but not classical upright I'm afraid. Seems to be a lack of double bass tutors (or people who can really play, not just own!). try Rutledge Turnland (google search) who is based in Faversham ( I think he played on some stuff by 4hero), - he is currently teaching one of my 2nd years about bowing technique. I may be able to get the number or an email but see if you can find it first as my students don't always get straight back to me!
21.
hey Buddy, how you been, sorry not been in touch been dep city for me last few weeks, let me know when you wanna pop over for a cuppa
Likewise mate - busy as hell. And it's the time of year where I have to mark my uni students assessments (501 ways to say practice more...!) But all good. I'm away next week but maybe hook up by half term sort of time. Hope you're well my man S.
22. Where you moving to Harry? Give me a shout and we'll catch up.
23. When I was teenage and had the time, I would learn every album I could get my hands on...every Police/jam/rush/king crimson/jamiroquia/primus/galiano/chilis/paul simon/level42/anything It helped me have a ton of ideas when it came to songwriting/constructing basslines and gave me an opportunity to improvise over a band and absorb many styles and techniques in the quest to find a voice. Once I was in bands and working the time to do this lessened but for 4 or 5 years I think I learnt any tune that cames my way, any album (even synth bass stuff) jingles, theme tunes etc. It also helped my ear training. Until I had a formal education this was my only means of learning.(other than gigs) I get so excited when I see my students getting the spark in their eye when they start to realise they can do this and begin their musical addiction and part of me wishes I was back there starting it all again:) Naturally, I wouldn't change a thing of course! So I don't see why you would not want to learn stuff provided you have the time:)
24. My band used to do stuff like Over my head and pretty much anything off 'Nebraska', and also some living colour stuff like 'go away', 'bi' and 'elvis is dead' - great bands and great fun.. Pleased to hear the stuff being played still. Lets face it - 'dogman' is MONSTER!
