1.
Last week I ordered some of these thin black silk gloves like Etienne Mbappé uses. They arrived today. I tried them and to my total surprise they are amazing! They are so comfortable and feel really natural to play with. I can still play very fast riffs with total accuracy. Now, I only bought them because I'm a slag and they look real sexy. Etienne wears them because he has massively acidic sweat and he kills his strings within the first three numbers of a set and he now swears by them. If you have this problem, I can't recommend them highly enough. I am really looking forward to playing a gig with them now! These are the ones I got and I ordered a size smaller than my hands, I think - ie. small and my hands are about small/medium. http://www.jasminesilk.com/product_info.php?products_id=36 OK tell me which half of this is Gloves. I just recorded this tonight to give them a test. How cool is this?!
He's one cool looking man, I like his jacket as well, oh and the bass, that is mega cool ( probably because it goes with the jacket). Your recording Nigel, well I couldn't tell which was which, but it didn't really capture my attention like paul h's, his piece was much more um.....intriguing. These gloves, do they go with knee length boots? I've got a pair of knee length boots now and they could look quite dandy together.
 2. If I've got to be serious, then Maple. The rosewood on Paul Simenon's seems to 'fit' better as it's got the black headstock. Just my opinion of course, and what do I know I play an Ibanez and it's bright red and I don't like bright red basses. Oh bl00dy hell! Hope that helps.
 3.
Marvin, unbelievably you have out-done me in the rubbish joke stakes!
Yeaaaah, I've done better than Clarky, I am honoured. Or is it I've done worse? Whatever it is my grammar is getting as bad as my jokes
 4.
Clarky, ... and is that a Badass?
No it's just the way he walks.
 5. Would they have a pair to fit over me pirates hook? Aaarr!
 6.
There are a load of cool transcriptions of basslines by guys like 'Duck' Dunn,Jerry Jemmott, Rocco Prestia and others here..... http://pagesperso-orange.fr/freebasspart.p...ass_Players.htm
That's an absolute gem of a site Doddy, a huge thanks.
 7.
Me after the Sp*rs 'shirt of hurt' ordeal, ripping up that tatty lilywhite rag. I like this photo because (1) I am destroying that abomination and (2) it gives the illusion that I have muscles, whereas I am in fact an overweight, out-of-shape 40-something grey-haired old git
Ooooo Clarky, you're all man.
 8.
Dear On the Edge, This behaviour is totally normal. The actions of your bandmates are through sheer jealousy over your awesome awesomeness. May I recommend the use of violent knee upthrusts to the groin region should you feel the need. Alternatively, if you have any female band members, a forcable punch to the breasts would do well to get your point across. All the best, Chuck Norris.

This is perfectly normal behaviour, remember that they are wrong, but like a 3 year old who is crying for no apparent reason, if you ignore them long enough, they will go away. Or even better, lock them in a cupboard until they appreciate you. Or you could go all Lemmy on your bass for a couple of gigs until they realise that it might be better if you just played the one note at a time, and weren't all good on guitar and stuff....
Dear Bass Agony Aunt (both of you). May I first thank you for your prompt response at this most stressful of times . I have taken on board your advice and decided upon a course of action. 1) extreme violence, ergo violent knee thrusts, promptly followed by ignoring them by locking them in a cupboard. I'm beginning to feel better already. Thank you Slightly less On the Edge.
 9. Dear Bass Agony Aunt. I have an uncontrollable urge to 'lamp' the other members of my band one, for comments such as 'you only play one note at a time' and 'you only play bass 'cause you were crap on guitar!' Is this propensity to violence normal? Please help before I do something they regret. Yours On the Edge
 10.
The Jaco one I posted is a spoof?
Oh butter wouldn't melt in his mouth.
 11.
Er... better make it !
The adverb of plate then. I think this is more suitable
 12. I'm not much into Metallica but I do think RT is a star. He's even more of a star now, good on him.
 13. It runs to 176 pages! Although as it's Haynes the majority of them will be index or blank.
 14.
Plater.
Should I respond with this or :brow: or
Oh I thought someone was out to get Sting, I was in
Get to the back of the queue.
 16.
It's a right large portion.
Oh right. You're going to have to send me a list of all the euphemisms and slang you know so I don't have to keep asking and looking a complete ........ (fill in the gap)
 17.
Wow! Did you slip her a crippler?
Sorry, but what is a crippler?
 18.
Myself, I'm looking forward to the release of this film, if/when the makers finish it. This is more like a proper bass documentary!
You're going to have to give us the heads up when that's released, looks the dogs do da's. I'm not sure Mrs Marvin will enjoy it though
 19. Received the copy of The Brand New Heavies - Brother Sister bass book I ordered a few days ago, this morning. It's a lovely book. Stuart Clayton provides not only clear notation but also helpful performance notes for each track. It clearly surpasses the two other notation books I've been given lately. You can tell it's been written by someone who has got a passion for bass and music in general. I wouldn't hesitate in buying another of his books. Stuart's also a Basschater so obviously and damned decent chap. The only thing I may suggest, as an addition, for the BNH's book is a live size poster of N'Dea Davenport to be included.
 20.
For the record I've met Lauren Lavern and she's lovely
You lucky man. She is lovely isn't she.
 21. I didn't go much on the HiBeams, I preferred the Sunbeams or the Flats, but I don't know why.
 22.
Basically, some drummers will sit behind the beat just a touch and others will push it on - Usually with the snare hits or fills being too hasty. I only know one drummer who sits on the beat like a metronome & that's Neil Bullock from the Birmingham area. He really is like a human atomic clock. So this is why it's necessary for a bass player to drive the band. Not only do singers and wind/brass players aurally pitch from the bass, but the bass player needs to drive the band along and give a feeling of forward motion, or it will usually grind down in speed a little. There's another school of thought that says bass frequencies are slower to bounce off things, so the bass player needs to be slightly ahead of the beat, anticipating it. This mainly comes from classical double bass circles, but I don't particularly go with this one. I prefer to feel where the beat should be by listening to what's going on around me & place the note bang in the middle of the beat, where it should be. I know other very good pro drummers who will rush and I can feel that I have to pull them back a bit. This is why I love playing to click tracks. It makes all this sooo easy! 23.
A good bass player is highly sympathetic with the music - with timing, tone and notes, a good songwriter, a good dresser, a good mover, and often depressed.
and has a fine collection of hats. Most important.

Again, its peavey, no frills solid bass gear that just works. andy
Way way back I had a Peavey Basic 60. Like you say no frills just worked. Just used it for jamming really nothing else.
