Just bought a Micro Fuzz from Max .
Awesome pedal (gonna do a mini review soon) .
The problem I've got , isn't the pedal , but my sound .
I haven't used much effects over the years , save for my G5 for Hysteria alone . I can now nail the sound with this little pedal , but when the drummer and then the band kick in , I'm completely lost in the mix .
I realise that this is purely a frequency issue on my behalf , but was wondering about splitting the signal .
What I'm asking is , is it possible to run it out of the unbalanced output (not the DI) from my amp , then to a channel in the PA , and just push up the volume for this song only ?
Thus having my clean sound out of the amp and speaker , and the fuzz (with a mix , granted of the clean) out of the PA . This would then kick in the sound for this one song (or maybe another like say Deeper Underground) . So sort of splitting the bass sound with - normal , and then fuzz and bass into the PA , isolating the fuzz from my main sound .
Is this a goer ? Or do you think that maybe DI pedal , with the bass back to the amp through the 'thru' , and an unbalanced 'out' into the fuzz , then the PA (being brought up volume wise just when needed) .
This seems simple to me , but does anyone else do something like this ?
Look forward for any advice , cheers Paul . -
Absolutely no need to feel dumb or stupid. You've solved the problem and left a pointer for others to check. The battery wouldn't have been my first thought either.
I agree , who'd of thougt it ? Me for one . Don't feel dumb , cause you'll be in good company with me ,and a few others on here I bet .
Look at it as imparting another piece of useful knowledge , cause I've certainly learnt something here . -
This is great , thanks for this . Though all that fun , I suspect you motives wern't completely alturistic
God I wish I had a day spare to do something like this (wife and kids) .
I've always wondered about the 2 and 3 band core differences .
Has anyone modded a 2 band , with a piggy back mid (ie East dual concentric mid pot) - thus getting the best of everything ? -
The Rodger Waters Signature . You take it to an Album session , your guitar player plays the bass for you . That's the only way it would be a true tribute bass .
-
I quite liked them .
I agree the first song can be seen to be a bit bland when comparing the Zender era , but I thought it had quite a nice mellow groove .
Deeper Underground as others have said lacked a real fat fuzz/synth bass high in the mix , and was shadowed by too loud guitar .
Oh,and was the middle backing singer the one who was/is married to Luke Goss ? -
but E Sharp dont mention the "sweet spot" as you will get BigRedX going off again!
Ha ha , you're probably right .
The sweet spot , as I see it , is sort of anywhere between the 'P' and MM position . Sort of like Esh Various rear pick up , or the front pick up of a Vigier Passion . I've had shed loads of basses over the years , and played others , and I've yet to hear a rear pick up that stands up on it's own . I realise I may be rubbing people up by stating this , but this is just as I've found it . All of the 2 pick up basses , when the rear is selected , need some blend of the front , to give a bit of weight ( unless it's a solo - chordal piece etc , then fair do's ) . Which , IMO , is one of the reasons for the beauty of the Stingray , and why the Sabre never caught on in the same way (and before I'm slated by Sabre lovers , I owned a nice Pre EB one for years - Rhino's got it now ) . The MM HH has it's rear pick up in the Stingray position , and another up front (same as the Warwick $$) , so the rear pick up is meaty in it's own right .
I'm not trying to be confrontational , or trying to wind people up over this , but this is just my opinion , and judging by the amount of 2 pick up basses , I'm probably in a minority here . I do own 2 pick up basses that I like , it's just I don't tend to use them much .
Feel free to slate me , as it's getting that time of night where a few drinks are down . -
MM . Sweet spot position either the same as MM or slightly forward , but not back .
Don't need 2 pick ups . Just move your right hand forward or back when plucking . Most of the sounds can be had out of one PU (IMO) . -
I admit it,i do this to annoy our guitard.E#.A# etc.
mmm , E sharp . That's me . Am I annoying ? -
Not last night , but the night before (Saturday) .
15th Soggy Moggy Bike rally at Woodgreen Animal Shelter , Godmanchester .
Last band on , headline on the last night .
Enjoyed the Feelgood tribute act before us . Then a " Mr and Mrs " rally competion . Which consisted of a handful of naked men on stage , hulla hooping . Then they asked for women , only 2 came forward though , which is 2 more than I though would do it . All in all , something a bit different you could say .
Big PA , 5 way monitor mix - really nice . 1000 punters , constant ale (though I was driving as usual) .
But a late one . Not on until just gone 10pm , and somehow managed , without a piss break , to play straight through until 12:45am .
Corker of a gig , probably a bit further than we normally go , but well worth it . Hit the sack at 4am - feel it more now than I used to -
Burns , Thunderbird , Beatle bass , BC Rich and Stanley Clarke Alembic (though more the look of someone trying to off set the dreadful balance of a 5K bass)
-
I'm liking that PJB .
Why do they have the 2nd power input on the rear ? -
Ritter are bolt-on-only.
I know , I was joking , and was commenting on the fact of the 14 fixings - OTT if you ask me -
I ordered an SG scratchplate from the USA - it was supposed to be $18, but customs intercepted it & wanted another £22 to make it match UK prices (after holding it for 3 weeks without telling me). I told them to send it back & I'd get a refund. The customs bloke couldn't believe it & banged on about all the hassle they'd have to go thru to do that, oh how I laughed.
About 20 yrs ago , I was one bottle of Whisky over the limit when I went through customs (when they had limits as such) , and they wanted quite a bit off of me .
Told them to keep it , went to walk off , and they asked me if I wanted to come to a deal
I paid a couple of quid , and I was on my way with it .
I never thought about the hassle factor for them , I suppose it was the same .
Good on ya . -
That is lovely . It really is .
By the way , is it a bolt on
Joking aside - stunning . -
That looks like my old bass . I sold it to a guy in Watton about 20 yrs ago , and he still owes me £100 of the installments - lesson learnt there I think .
Did you find an old Bartolini active boost in the control cavity , wired by some numpty 20yr old
I always thought that these were SB700's - the passive version of the SB1000 .
I know you say cash only , but are up for a trade of a boxed up Korg G5 plus £100 to you . I'm in Norfolk . -
It is slowly getting better , but those typos mentioned are hard to understand .
The missing text on last month's issue with the 3 session guys - no mention in this month's about it (already been brought up) .
The Stanley Clarke interview also went form one page to another with some obvious text missing .
I struggle to realise how they can keep getting issues like this .
Also I was wondering if they could do something with the photos in the reviews . The TC combo review this month has a picture of part of the front panel , blurring at the edges . Then turn the page , and it's another part of the front panel , blurring at the edges . Not one picture of the complete front end . Plus a meaningless picture of a part of the grill at the bottom (what's that all about) .
I don't mean to sound negative , but the photos in the review virtually show me nothing about it . I would say , one large frontal picture (to replace the sideways one) , a large front on picture of the front panel (instead of bits and pieces) , a picture of the rear panel (not even shown) , and that would do it . No more 'arty' shots , it's supposed to be a factual article .
All this aside , I still like the mag , and will continue to buy it . -
OOOHH YES . I'm free .
Excellent -
Played a couple of Warwicks over the years , and everyone was a dog .
Tried a Dolphin 2 with the view to buy at the Gallery , and really loved the look , but it was dreadful . A real shame , as I must be just unlucky judging by the amount of people on here who play them . -
OII!!!! Thats my target audience
That's until they see you on that Far Eastern web site you put a link to - they may change their minds -
Hi all , sort of OK now with the fuzz , and now looking for a bitchin octave pedal .
Obviously Boss OC2 and EBS are favourites , but has anyone tried out the MXR new one , or the Aguilar new one . These look more in depth on the surface . What do you guys / gals use , and your reasons , ie anyone AB'd them .
If there's a link to a previous thread , then let me know .
Cheers , Paul . -
Its a load of PR Bullsh*te.....
I agree - I'm just suprised he doesn't use gold plated ends and directional cable also
Best to just go to OBBM - job done -

2 in a double gig bag .
Never used the spare - ever .
Had a sizable collection years ago , now whittled down somewhat , but in 18 yrs only ever gigged the one .
Always take the spare just in case . And regarding the tuning down mentioned , I can tune down to a C or D manually quite quickly - no need for a 5'er . -

Basses on the settee

All that now remains of my once bigger collection .
The P bass was my first . Got it in '84 when I was 15 . Gigged it solid from '86 to '92 .
Depending on which book , either a 78,79 or 80 . All tags , covers and the original unmarked case . I believe the chrome scratch came with it , as it came with it - that was what I was told . Or could have been an add on . Don't know .
I only get this out once a year , and am probably gonna sell it (probably regret it , but it never gets played) .
The Status was an Ebay pickup , and another I've hardly played . The knob got busted off , and I've hardly touched it since . A bit battered all round to say the least .
The jazz was another Ebay pickup . 70's jazz body (so I was told) , with a graphite neck made by Vongaton . Status replaced the electrics with their 2 band (but now leaving a spare hole) . Rob changed the bridge too , and tidied up the neck , but it is still very slightly warped - with a noticable buzz around the 10th to 12th fret .
Another not used , and just stuffed into a double gigbag as a spare .
The Framus is a dog . The only point of this piece of crap is to hang it on the wall and admire it , cause if you tried to play it , all admiration would rapidly disappear . Bought it for a ton about 20 yrs ago , took it to Martin Booth to try and make it playable - but as thay say - "you can't polish a turd". How Wyman ever played one is beyond me , it's probably on a par with Futurama , Watkins and all of that other 2 bit early sixties rubbish .
The Stingray is my keeper . Bought it as a pair , but the shop sold the fretted one before I paid for both . Initially a fretless , Steve Smith , who used to make Goodfellow Basses , fretted it for me .
The previous owner wanted a flame bodied graphite necked stingray . So he sold the body and neck to another , got Rodger Giffen to make a body with a bookmatched top , stuck the hardware and electrics back in , and fitted a Modulus Quantam neck .
Done every gig bar one in close to 20yrs on this - country to blues to function/corporate to heavy rock - does it all .
I'm not much good with camera's , and I'll try to post better pics later with my cruddy cheap model .
Thanks for looking - it's only taked me 15 months
