Dale
New set of Picato 766 stainless steel flats - 45/65/85/105/130 (if you only need four, at this price just don't use the B-string). I'm now using Thomastik flats so this set is no longer needed. £15 delivered (UK only)
6. Well i just called in to the music shop on the off chance and they actually had both basses there. The BB probably had the biggest range of sounds but i think it would be better as a passive more vintage style bass, i'll have to try a 414 at some point. After playing the RBX i preferred the feel of the neck and the upper fret access, also the sound suited me better so that's what i bought. Got it for £275 including a gig bag so i'm quite happy with that.
7.
A pewter BB615 should look pretty damned awesome in a metal band and will serve you well.
Well i was leaning toward the BB and it just so happens that the pewter one is the cheapest so may well go that route. I was just wondering if you can get a Fieldy type sound with only the 2 band eq on an RBX? Obviously it's not essential but useful, to me anyway cheers Spacehog
8. So i sold my EB3 and a guitar and now need a bass suitable for metal and hopefully versatile enough for some classic rock/blues It needs to be a 5 string for the detuned stuff and i much prefer a wide string spacing. The two yamaha's mentioned seem to fit the bill but i'm not sure which would suit me better. I prefer the look of the BB615 and suspect it may be more versatile in the sound department, it also has 3 band eq so i could maybe dial out the mids for a Korn type sound. The RBX375 looks more 'metal' though and i would guess the humbuckers have a bit more grunt. I would prefer a lighter bass if possible so not sure which one is heavier. Obviously i should go to a shop and try them but i thought i'd get some opinions first, plus my 'local' shop doesn't have the biggest selection. honestly if i had the money i'd probably buy both and they can both be had for around £270 depending on colour. 9. would you consider splitting them? I'd like the head only Spacehog
10. Err....No cheers for that though
11. it wouldn't let me put actual pics in the post only links i'm afraid
12. This was my first bass and it is a lovely instrument but not what i need right now. This is a korean made one and i believe the latest ones are Chinese. It is virtually unmarked except for a few very light scratches on the back which would polish out. The pickup covers are showing some signs of corrosion but nothing much. As you can see on the pics i made a small stainless steel extension for the strap button which eliminates the neck dive. i'm looking for around £130 but may px it for a decent 5 string metal type bass (ibanez etc) I'm based in Norwich area and don't really fancy posting it as i don't have a hard case for it cheers Spacehog body back neck
13. Thanks guys, i guess it's possible but not advisable I recently played through a Peavey Tour 700 in a shop and it was awesome, and i guess not a bad price £400. The rehersal room has a Behringer bx4500 which after about an hour of tinkering sounded ok so could be a cheap option? cheers Spacehog
14. I'm quite new to the bass scene and don't yet have a rig. Myself and a guitarist are putting together a metal band so i figure i'll need plenty of power. I was thinking of the possibility of using a preamp like a Hartke VXL and then going straight into a cheap but powerful power amp like this one power amp is this a good idea? Cheers Spacehog
15. For me it was a Vintage AV4 i bought off the net (lesson learned!) When it arrived the action was about 8 foot so i tightened the truss rod which was so tight it felt like it was going to snap. Eventually i got the action to a reasonable height but then the neck was badly twisted so i sent it back and after a month of agro finally got my money back.
