  1. It's your piece of wood. What does the bass sound like? I used to buy basses in pairs and get one de-fretted. I'd choose what I considered the "lighter" sounding of the pair to de-fret. Playing on a bare board has more 'fill' than on frets.
  2. An internal sense of BPM. Starting at the right tempo.
  3. The ability to swing. "You can be as clever as you like but if it don't swing, forget it." Danny Thompson. I've played with technicians and I've played with musicians...
  4. "I t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ consume, therefore I am." Yep, watch out for that 'thinking', it's dangerous.
  5. The low mass sounds more animated and livelier, in comparison the hi mass sounds dull. Playing with other instruments, the low mass would have more presence IMO, but then I've always liked low mass bridges. I've always bought livelier, brighter sounding basses, you can tone them down. If a bass is inherently dull, you're kind of stuck with it.
  6. Been stopped by the police twice and asked to open up the gig bag, once by a bobby on the beat, the second time by a couple of armed plain clothes police in a beat up car.
  7. Skit happens. You can't be on your toes all of the time.
  8. I should add that's over the course of around 20 years.
  9. Hanger Lane underpass, carrying a gig bag, three young lads, one mutters "He's too big." So that was that. Ealing Broadway tube station, I kneel down to tie a shoe lace with a bass on my back, a guy runs up from behind and tries to snatch the bass and run, no joy so he continues to run up the steps and away.
  10. "The thing with politicians is I wouldn't have suspicions If I saw their worst positions And their ugly underneath But after all the voting Suck away the sugar coating Now they've had you and they're gloating Boy, it's ugly underneath..."
  11. "Welcome to the machine Where have you been? It's alright, we know where you've been You've been in the pipeline, filling in time..."
  12. Thanks for the info Jauqo, enquiring minds want to know. I have a V7 five and an M7 fretless five and they are two of the best buys I've made in years.
  13. Sounds about right. What's the balance like Jauqo? 6 elephant ear tuners is a fair old amount of metal, and of course, the wider neck.
  14. I like the V7 five string I have quite a bit, but I have to ask, what's the weight? Can you lift it with one arm?
  15. It's the same principle as buying designer ripped jeans, it looks as if you've been places. Instead of in front of Facebook.
  16. I think the board have pitched this about right.
  17. I would have to ask the few fellows I know who play in Beatles tributes, when they get off the boats.
