1. IIRC, John used that StingRay throughout the whole of The Game album. Certainly some of the other album tracks have that distinct 'Ray sound as opposed to his traditional Precision sound.
2. I presume that something must be happening soon. I've checked out a few websites, and new Trace Elliot gear is practically unavailable! I had feared that something bad had happened and that they were quietly going under. If instead they're preparing for a new product range, then that is truly great news! I saw the MP11 referred to above...I am a proud owner of one! Amazing bit of kit, although I think technically it's more of a graphic eq than a pre-amp. I'd love to see this incorporated into a new class-D unit.
3. Thanks for the comments - I think in my head I thought "T" but instead typed "C"! As it happens, I've managed to shift this on elsewhere - thread updated accordingly! Cheers Mark
4. For sale is my Trace Elliot 1518C cab. It's old, well-used and worn, but still works! Hopefully the condition of the cab is clearly shown on the photos. Collection only on this bad boy, as it's quite weighty. I'm based in Widnes, but could be prepared to travel 20 miles or so to make an exchange.
5. For anybody looking for lessons, I'd happily recommend Steve. As well as being a thoroughly nice chap, he's got a wealth of bass-playing talent and experience that helps him to be a really good teacher. Although other commitments meant I only had 3-4 lessons with Steve, in those lessons I learnt so much more about bass playing and musical theory than I had done in the last 15 years or so of playing bass. If my circumstances changed, then I'd happily look Steve up again to help improve my bass playing. Cheers! Mark
6. I have a RA500SX which I could probably move on: It's a 3U unit and towards the heavier end of amplifiers. Not sure when it was built but I think it would be at least 20 years old? PM if you're interested and we can work something out. Thanks Mark
7. Wade bought my Markbass Compressore, nice friendly guy to deal with, happily sell to him again!
8. Sold him my Zoom B3, nice guy to deal with, with no messing about with payments. Cheers!
9. As you'd expect, there are plenty of offers for the B3 which I'm working my way through. All PM's have been replied to. The Markbass is still very much available though...
10. Compressore is still very much available...
11. Thanks for the comments guys.To be fair andybassdoyle, it's the power amp that is the heavy bit, the MP11 is actually fairly reasonable in weight. Couldn't tell you exactly, but at one point I had thought to pair it up with one of the lightweight class D power amps that Crown make.
12. Following the end of my current band, I'm looking to move on some of my effects. Markbass Compressore - [s]£130 plus shipping[/s] Sold pending! Less than 6 months old, and in great condition if you don't mind a bit of velcro on the bottom! Very versatile compressor pedal with some added tube warmth. For more details, see http://www.markbass....tail.php?id=121 Zoom B3 - [s]£75 plus shipping[/s] Sold! Really good value multi-fx unit, allowing 3 simultaneous effects. Comes with some really powerful amp simulators in addition to a stupid number of effects.
13. About a year ago, I had a major GAS attack for some old school 1980's Trace Elliot goodness. The result was an MP11 pre-amp and RA500SX Power Amp. MP11 Digital Graphic EQ Pre-amp The main feature of this pre-amp is the 11-band digital graphic eq. Rather than turning knobs, you increase or decrease the desired frequency using the buttons underneath the display. Once you have your desired EQ shape, then you can save this to 1 of the 10 user presets. These presets can either be recalled by pressing the corresponding button on the head, or they can be controlled using the midi footswitch. There are two inputs on the front, in all honesty I haven't worked out whether they are active/passive inputs, or just two separate inputs. On the back panel there are In, Through and Out midi connections, which I do not know what they do. There's a balanced DI XLR output, line in, line out and effects loop. RA500SX Power Amp This is an old-school 3U power amp, so it's very heavy! It has two channels, which I'm guessing put out 250 watts each at 4 ohms. Each channel can be run separately with separate inputs, or run in bridged mono mode. There is a built in cross-over, allowing you to bi-amp the power amp with channel A as high pass and channel B as low pass. For both items, including the 6U Gator flight case, I'm looking for £575. Due to the weight of this thing (20kg+!) this is for collection only, although I could possibly travel up to 20 miles or so to meet up (I'm just off J7 of the M62). I'd much rather sell these both together, so I'd always listen to offers for the both of them together before individual offers. The MP11 (inc footswitch) I'm looking for £425, and £180 for the RA500SX. Cheers Mark
14. I was in both Curly's and Dawsons at the weekend. Curly's is a waste of time for basses, I think they had about 5 in the shop. Dawsons has a larger number of instruments, but variety is poor - Fenders, Ibanez's and a few interesting Gibsons is about as much as they do. I can't really comment too much on the customer service as I went to school with one of the guys working there, we always have a bit of a chat and he's always willing for me to try pretty much whatever I want. PMT in Salford is not bad at all, much more variety and stock and well recommended if you're going down the M602. When I went there a year or so ago the staff were really friendly and helpful.
15. On the ipad you can download IK Multimedia's Amplitube and access it via the inter-app audio function. You can download Amplitube Custom Shop for free, pretty sure there's a basic bass amp that comes as standard.
16. Yup, full or off for me too. If I generally need more volume, then I turn the amp up. If I need more volume mid-song, then invariably I'll create dynamics by plucking softer / harder. Only exception to the rule is using a Jazz style V-V-T setup, and I want to bring in a small amount of the bridge PuP to add a bit of bark...
