  1. Righty, my current board is: - Akai Deep Impact - Boss OC-3 - EHX Nano Bass Balls - MXR Bass Blowtorch - Digitech BSW Now, as much as I like the slightly synthy, grumbly noises I get from my Blowtorch, I feel that my board lacks some grinding. Would it be worth investing in an overdrive or some sort of driver or distortion to work either independently or with my Fuzz (as I've heard some people say you can get some good sounds combining the two). Ideas/suggestions please!

    Distortions

Anyone had any experience with using the Boss SD-2 on bass?
  3. Hehe, that sounds like Amplifier. Saw them in Southampton last November at the Joiners. Only about 60 people there and because there was no PA or anything, I got the full blast of his bass stacks for two hours. I felt nauseous afterwards it was so loud . Best gig I've ever been too, favourite band, minute venue, awesome time!
  4. Anyone seen them live? His bass sounds SOOOOO meaty.
  5. What does the Machine do exactly? I guess it's Bass > Machine > Fuzz?
  6. YES! My joint fave band of all time. Loved them for years now, absolutely immense live and Neil has an insane amount of effects.
  7. I just want to get the NIN bassist's live tone. It's so smooth and crunchy and fuzzy, but it cuts through so well.
  8. I got mine brand new for £200. I always feel a bit satisfied when I see people paying £300+ for a used one .
  9. +1. Sounding fab from what I've listened to so far .

    Plug in baby

Yup, we cover it as well. Such fun to play and always gets a good reaction .

Well... I use these to get the effect (playing the song up in the in the high D position): - Boss OC-3 (set to one full octave down) - Nano Bass Balls (envelope filter) - Some fuzz Someone may well come and correct me but an envelope filter of some kind should do the trick. I have no idea if you can emulate the sound using a floor pod so I can't help you there.
  12. I shall be splashing out on a Micro Pog when money is flowing nicely.
  13. The DI is the only synth pedal worth your time I think. I got mine off eBay brand new (old stock of course) for £180. But you can expect to pay anything up to about £300 even for a used one. They often go for even more than that, depending on how much cash you have to burn. I personally, wouldn't pay more than £250 for one but that's simply because it's not the most vital component of my sound.

    OC-2 vs. OC-3

Hehe, cheers. Much of a Reggie Perrin fan yourself?

    OC-2 vs. OC-3

I have an OC-3 and as much as I like the sound I get from it when mixed with a bit of fuzz, I can't help but notice it does suck quite a bit of life out of my tone. I was just wondering if the OC-2 would be a better bet or a completely different octaver would be worth looking into.
  16. I get it by using my OC-3 and Blowtorch. OC-3 on Drive mode with a full octave down (turned to full) and the Blowtorch on some setting I can't be arsed to type. Then play it up an octave (7th on D position).
  17. I'm keeping my Synth Wah for just one reason: it works in conjunction with everyone other pedal on my board without any real conflict. You can grind out some rather useful sounds by mixinf it with fuzz or distortion or more synth (Deep Impact), etc etc. I think the auto-wah is fairly useless but it's not really what I use it for.
  18. Woo, finally got mine up and running today and I absolutely love it. The only slight niggle is that it doesn't sustain very well. Is there anything I can do/tweak/buy to improve that?

    Distortions

Not sure, but he's been using one since the days of Origin Of Symmetry. Most of his live distorted tones is done by the Animato these days.

    Distortions

He actually uses his Human Gear Animato distortion far more than his Big Muff these days.
  22. Bought one about a week ago, though I haven't really used it at all because I can't power it. I managed to snatch 5 minutes using some batteries (used up rather quickly) and I can say already that I absolutely love it, just in that time I was able to get pretty close to all the different fuzzy/distorted sounds I want without losing any low end at all. I'll report back when I get it all powered up (the 18v requirement is awkward!).
