Hey, if it's heavy - I'm taking a Marhsall VBC412 or an Ampeg 6x10! haha But I would definitely love a Barefaced 4x10 which could do just about anything I reckon

On a real Jazz kick this year. Bought 4 and sold one. Am absolutely smitten with both the early 00's American Deluxe QMT and the Victor Bailey I got. Just wondering, when it comes to active Fender Jazz basses, what are your thoughts when it comes to the different versions of the Deluxe series? Havent tried any of the 09-2016 units, apparently the end of that run (prior to the Elite series) were amazingly good...? Has anyone tried them all? favorites? opinions on which version is the best? keen to hear your thoughts.

Been using the skinny Levys vinyl straps for a few years now and absolutely loved them. They sit well on the shoulder and blend in like camo. Got a couple of them when my friends music shop shut down. Ordered a couple of more as spares. A few months ago I found out they made some wider ones with pick holders in them (4 x little pockets) Grabbed a couple and a letterbox sticker kit from the local big box hardware shop. Did one for one of the bands I play in (put my son's initials on the back for good luck) Did a second one as a twofer - a nod to the old country but also on the back the three additional letters that spell out my unborn daughter's name, also named for the old country. Pleased with how they've turned out. Punk DIY ethos 😁

I think in terms of my collection, I'm almost at critical mass - I've ditched out nearly everything I'd be willing to part with that wouldn't hurt a bit lol. I am selling my black and maple 3EQ EBMM Ray and my 90's Dano DC in silver sparkle to make way for one more bass, I'm just not 100% sure on what that one would be. Potentially another Ray, but preferably with a rosewood board (I just prefer the look of rosewood on a lot basses, the sound on Jazz basses) This year, I've been on a Jazz odyssey - I've sold one (the only one I'd owned for 10+ years) and bought 4 of em. I've really developed a taste for active/super-Jazz-style instruments since owning an Am Dlx QMT and a Victor Bailey, so would probably say I'd actively look for another QMT in a different colour and maybe, at some point, treat myself to a high-end Sadowsky. (really loved the Jason Newsted Sadowsky sig earlier this year, gutted I didn't have the money for one of those). I'd probably also consider an Adam Clayton Jazz or a Blu DeTiger sig Jazz if either popped up. I'm covered for all things Precision and I think with my Aria SB-CB, Thunderbird Studio, Rascal and other EBMM basses, I've got all my humbuckin' requirements covered too. A Thunderbird IV would be cool, as would one of the Epi Vintage PRO/64 Tbirds but not sure when I'd actually use it Someone mentioned about 'tribute' basses earlier - bass choices inspired by favourite bass players - I can definitely dig that. I am still scouting for an Aria CSB 380 in red ala Kim Deal. Other than that, I'm not really 'looking' for anything. I'd like to think I'm getting better at managing GAS as I get older... lol

Considering they effectively invented the bass amp, I really hope they stick to producing at least some models. But knowing Fender, they will always aim for products to fill specific pricepoints - an entry series, a mid-tier and a pro series, at the very least.

That would certainly take some getting used to! Ariya - don't worry about it. Haha
-
Absolutely- the cabs are certainly not lightweight!!! Actually, neither is the head for that matter! hahaha I am quite surprised that I managed to fit the lot into a Nissan Ariya haha. Awesome set of wheels in that pic too man (even if the steering wheel is on the wrong side 😜 )

Glad to hear you had such a good run with one of these. The build quality and reliability is definitely something I seriously considered and there are so many positive reviews and comments on these. And I know i can run it clean and still get a decent grindy tone without upsetting it. I can't wait to get to rehearsal later this week!!!

There's a used TV Duo for sale in the North Island (some 1500KMs away from where I am!) and man I wish I could get my paws on it. They look amazing and have that lovely warm Fender sound. Always wanted one but there didn't seem to be many of them about when they were new, or at least, I couldn't see any here in NZ. Guess it's a blessing that it's so far away, as my Ampeg B-100R wouldn't get the love it gets now if I had the Bassman, I did ask about freighting it but they are big and heavy and the freight would cost as much as the amp. And I've sold my 51RI P too. Sigh...

It's a 1001RB Mk II

New doom rig. Just have to dial in the dUg pedal and effects rig and I'm all set. No more amps for this young man.

So after trying a few different combinations for one of the bands I play in, I recently came to the realization that although I love the sound of the DG AO900, I just prefer the sound of the dUg pre and my pedal rig through a cleaner-sounding amp for this band. So started searching for a beater head to drive using the dUg. I've just sold my (now mostly unused) Ampeg PF800 rig (15 amd 210 cabs) so was thinking I'd have a bit of coin to play with for a new head. But ideally, something used. Then I happened across this complete GK rig, locally. Cut to some haggling, a short drive and a long natter about gear (the dude had some amazing basses!), I am now the proud owner of this monster. Spent the afternoon re-doing a couple of rack set ups, going to the rehearsal space to swap out rigs and bringing the big old beater Behringer 810 cab home to squeeze into the Jamnasium (may have done me back in the process...) Needless to say, I'm pretty darn happy with everything.

Well, thanks to a Black Friday deal, I bit the bullet and ordered a Boss Waza Air Bass set. It arrived yesterday afternoon to the office, so needless to say I was looking forward to getting home and trying it out. I charged up the transmitter for a couple of hours, dug out the massive instructions sheet, downloaded the app and fetched my 60th Ann Road Word Jazz... First impressions: Waza Midi (via the app) App is great in terms of content, but the layout could be better. Took me a few mins to work out the FX banks but I got there lol. Drum machines/metronomes and tuner are all great. Sound was crystal clear, i liked the amp voicings too. Had a play with a few of these for a bit too. Then I went looking for how to connect an external bluetooth audio source for jamming along. I hadn't realised there is a separate bluetooth function outside of the app for this but once I figured that out (about 5 mins), it was a piece of Fosters. Cut to 5 mins later and I'm happily plonked on the sofa, jamming along to some disco-ey Electric Six goodness, with a big, warm, round Jazz tone belting out of an invisible stack behind me, grinning from ear to ear - all without disrupting the better half's Shortland Street viewing and the young master's sleep. One very happy chappy!!! Will definitely be using these DAILY! So hopefully will master all aspects of the app shortly. Now to buy the little case for them!

Is that an Adam Clayton Precision? It is beautiful!!!

Monsieur, with this Jazz Bass, you are really spoiling us...

I had one of these. One of the very early ones. Only sold it on earlier this year. I loved it. I really did. Jazz-esque sounds but with the active eq and series/parallel options. I insulated the living daylights out of the cavities with copper tape and the active circuit noise all but disappeared. I popped a Jazz 'ashtray' cover over the bridge too. I had thoughtt about sticking some lipstick style pickups in it but never got round to it. it was mostly a case queen, rarely took it out other than for a quick noodle at home. Gorgeous instrument. Only reason i moved it on was for a part trade on my Am Dlx QMT Jazz. To answer your question, it will do almost everything a Jazz can but with a different look and feel. They just look bad ass in that Hot Rod Red!!!

I like the idea of that but would prefer Bluetooth headphones

I'm about to buy a Boss Waza Air bass system too. Been wanting one for ages, as with a 2yr old in the house, the amount of time I can play through an amp or even be in my Jamnasium (the room next door to his) is rather limited. I actually think it will make me play more, especially being an all-in-one tool. Was reluctant to splash out the full retail amount on a set but there is a good deal on with the local distributor at the moment and having just sold a couple of surplus-to-requirement Squiers, I can justify it to myself (and the missus) lol

My 73 Precision creeps in. Though the pickup is long gone, replaced with a dimarzio 60's.

What does your signature bass look like?
basshead56 replied to Steve Browning's topic in Bass Guitars
Some ideas I've always fancied for a Sig model: An early 2000's style American Deluxe Jazz 4 string (same as my QMT) but in a cool black burst/swirl (silvery cloud-esque and similar QMT finish) with gold hardware, Ebony fretboard with pearl blocks and white binding, Matching Headstock with gold logo -as per my QMT, noiseless pickups, Sadowsky Preamp and a Hipshot extender on the E (The necks on my QMT and Victor Bailey 4 are easily the nicest Jazz necks I've ever played) so definitely would have that at least! A 70's Style P Bass in Sherwood green with matching headstock, pearloid pickguard, ebony fretboard with pearl blocks and binding, Bridge from one of the eighties P Bass Elites (Think they were Schaller Fine-Tuning bridges?) , Vintage 60's style pickup with overwind. Aria SB1000 in Starry Night ala EBMM with all black hardware and hipshot xtender on E A Fender-branded Rascal (not sure if i want the 3 lipstick pup or the Squier Paranormal wide-range 'buckers) in silver sparkle or Mercury silver w matching headstock with a black pickguard, rosewood board, pearl blocks AND a Darkglass AO preamp ala the Darkray -activated via S-1 Switch and toggled with a chickenhead knob on the upper bout Oh and I'd probably have LED fretmarkers or some of those luminlay dots (that have appeared on the Am Ultra 2 series Fenders) on all of the above -
Thank you all for your help. Only the smallest of tweaks was required in the end. The Victor Bailey Jazz is now ever so slightly sweeter again!
-
Hey all, just wondering about pickup height/distance from strings. I've noticed all my jazz basses seem to have the pickups set at different heights. Is there a standard height? do people raise or lower them by much? Noticed (what i would deem) a rather large gap in particular on my Victor Bailey Jazz Also guessing this is why it seems much quieter than than the others lol
-
I am so enamoured with my EBMM Darkray in Obsidian black but I would trade it in a second for a Starry Night finished one! Excellent score there mate!

Where did you order the amp from originally,Marty? I'm in Southland NZ and would love a Quilter
