  1. Wow, I wasn't expecting that - thanks guys, that really made my day! I really enjoyed listening to all of the compositions, fantastic talent here. I've submitted a picture to lurksalot for the February challenge, can't wait to hear what you guys come up with.
  2. Hey guys, this is my first entry, so go easy on me! In fact, it's my first recorded bass guitar line since about 2006!... New Years' Resolution has got me going on some music again, which can only be a good thing. It's not really finished - I have had time to neither write nor record lyrics, but here it is so far - Midwinter Daiquiri: The bass is an Ibanez EHB1506MS six string fan-fret, electric guitar is a Strandberg seven string fan-fret, put together with Cubase 12 featuring a bit of Native Instruments' Session Horns. I hope you enjoy! Cheers, Dave

I made a bass slide from solid tungsten carbide a few years ago. It was a monstrous 250g in weight, and sounded superb - that mass really engages with those heavy, wound strings for a good strong, clear tone. I still have it around somewhere - I'd completely forgotten about it until I saw this thread. I must search it out and try it again.
  4. Thanks guys, that's really helpful! Really loving this bass, and getting to know all its sounds.
  5. Thanks guys for the welcome! Yes I may be starting out with gear beyond my ability, but I was able to move on some of my electric guitars/kit to raise funds and make way. And particularly after my experience of time/effort/gas trading up acoustic guitars over several years, thought I would short circuit that. At least now it's all down to me, I can't blame the gear! I'm too late this month but I will definitely try an entry to the monthly composition challenge - looks great! And yes I'll check out the SE Bass Bash too. Cheers! David
  6. New BassChatter here - I had a question about Dingwall basses, thought here would be the best place to ask it. I just picked up an Afterburner HS (bubinga body / wenge neck) with three pickups and three series/parallel switches. It's an awesome bass, and I find each pickup position gives a distinct, very usable sound - and the s/p switches add some interest too. I just wondered if it is normal on a Dingwall to have a pronounced difference in output level between pickup positions (particularly, the two bridge-most pickups together position is much louder than any of the others)? The sounds are great, but I would struggle modulating between them in one piece, or even set, with that level difference. Cheers! David
  7. Hello! Well I thought after lurking on Basschat and perusing the marketplace for a few months in search of gear, I should introduce myself properly. I've been playing electric guitar for about 30 years now, and acoustic for 17. However, I've had a bit of a hiatus on playing for the past five years or so; just getting back into it now. I'm not in a band at the moment, but write and record my own music in my home studio - everything from orchestral through blues and reggae to prog metal. So I thought I'd add bass guitar to my repertoire (absolutely not, you understand, as an excuse for buying new and exciting gear...) 😉 My basses are a bubinga-bodied Dingwall Afterburner HS, an Ibanez EHB1506MS and a Hudson ProjectBass 6 string, and I just acquired a Mesa M3 Carbine 1x12 combo to make them heard. Really happy with the range of tones I can get with this setup - it covers everything I need and then some. I'm still very much a guitarist learning bass technique so have some way to go, but am enjoying it immensely! I look forward to joining in on the forum! Cheers, David
  8. It looks lovely! Just wish it was a 6-string and I would be on it.
