I love reading these threads- every time I end up having to say the same thing. Not bad that it wasn't until the 5th reply that we got the compliment with the mandatory "but.." attached to it. And not bad to have only 2 criticisms on 1 page. "he's not bad.." ???!!! "he's kinda sloppy.."??!! "There's no groove.."??!! "play stuff slower and grow up..??!! Come on- he's 15 and very good for his age. When he's 35 he may be a monster or conversely he may not groove at all. But at least at 15 he was way, way, way ahead of me and many others at 15. He's on track. Let's see some love for the young 'uns
Don't take my words out of context, pal, and then, I doubt, if there will be a lotta to laugh from, aight? What I was tryin' to say, he's quite good at playin' all-round, but, for f*cks sake, if kid's doing Jaco's Three Views of a Secret, or Victor's "Grace", is it that hard to make Runaway groovy, especially for showing up to audience?
"play stuff slower and grow up..??!!
I meant suggesting to 'grow up' the tempo, not for himself... So, are we clear with each other now, mate? P.S. You know, pals, threads like this somehow remind me a story of Mrs. Wilkenfeld... peace, Faith.

Well, I would really treat him as an waaaay advanced player[ about that age..] if he'd lock in time. I dunno, maybe it's camera's fault ,as someone said( though, I don't think that way), or maybe he's too young to analyze the stuff he's doing very seriously, I mean, to play stuff slower and 'grow up', work on hard parts, and make it groove (sh1te, guys, there's no groove in Runaway, for seitan's sake..), but, as I've seen few Will's vids, in timing case, he's kinda sloppy.. It's ok, when finger falls off the string or sumthin, but timing is THE thing about playin' bass, don't you agree, folks? But no no - I don't want to cuss out the kid - he's not bad, simply needs to work on some things some more.. You know, I can only dream now, that in my 15th years of life, someone would have showed me bass guitar, my former teacher, and put serious attitude in ma head..
Say yeah!
What the f*ck did he say?... I love Mr. Murphy What about funk - I like it, but, though, I'm learning slap at the mo, I can't say it's easy for me to 'get on' with it[funk]. Probably cuz I dunno a lot bassists, that suit my 'funk' taste, and the other thing, I dunno a lotta good simple slappy songs for the beginning. For sure, I've checked thread about that, but, most of offered songs don't simply 'do the trick' (few chaps even managed to offer songs, where's no goddamn slap nor any possibility making it )... Oh, I've went fo flimfams.. Though, before long I'll make a thread about 'getting on' on some style. Funk is the problem for me for now. Considering, I think you should know/play/eat your instrument in and out [techniques included], so funk is Biiiig part of it. That's my foolish personal opinion, by the way. And, prog-rock/metal is my favourite thing in heavy music, too. We could share about that a bit, couldn't we?... That's mine flimfams about it: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=where+the+hell Cheers, mate Faith.

Hello again, folks So, it seems, that I'm not the first one pissed with that Gearbox problem. I've just checked Line6 forums, there are few threads about GearBox + Bass XT Live thing, and it says, that at the moment there is no actual patch or something for compactibility. And, there are huge doubts, if there will ever be one, cuz Line6 crew doesn't bother to care about Bass XT Live problems(updates on timely bases and stuff...) There's some thread about this: http://line6.com/support/thread.jspa?messa...8498䡂

For sure, I'll try to keep things updated, and, thanks for advice, mate.
-
You mean somethin' like add-on for Bass version or what?
-
Despite the fact that no-one troubled about replying, so, finally, I've found the thing myself, and... GearBox ( and audio player included there ) isn't compatible with Bass POD Live XT version.. So, you can't jam together 'with your favourite tunes' when unit is plugged into PC. And, as I suppose, you can't record through GearBox also. Shame on those Line 6 'elves'.

Huh, after watching John Myung's Progressive Bass Concepts I thought of starting doing things with 3 fingers. Took DiGiorgio's pdf. school for start. By the way, maybe someone's here 'is good' at John's video thingies? I got a few questions.. And the other thing, spotted some guy called Giorgio Terenziani, here are few vids from his DVD... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xurn35334Mk&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL8Vk-Q5Rtw...feature=related Anyone had any bussiness with his DVD?

Hi, guys. So, I've finally got that POD XT Live thing and thought of trying to jam along with GearBox's mp3 player as I saw my guitarist doing the same on his guitar version. But it seems that GearBox isn't compactible with Bass version, is it?... Cuz, firstly, when I try to download it by choosing it like Bass XT Live's product, it's said, there's no such software for that... And secondly, when I at last downloaded GearBox, and turned it on, it says I haven't plugged USB into PC, though, I've really done it... I reaaally need to make that GearBox thing work, if it's possible, for sure, so, I need advice, if there's any logic at struggling with it...
You need some mids brother! Run you bass flat, both pups on full, then just tweak the EQ on your amp a little, or slightly move the balance/pan (whatever it is on the ibby) to slightly favour whichever pup you prefer.
Oh, I was using mid's, though, not much, but I didn't 'kill' them. Well, I'll have some spare time now, for sound-searching, so, I gonna play with that EQ thing little by little.
-
Just back after the gig. Impressions tommorow at the 'last night's gig...' So, there was some Trace's 150w amp, and, my doubts really proved out - i've used the same eq on my bass like during rehearsals, on my Laney, but sound was soooo sh*tty... Of course, turned amp's eq off, but it didn't help a thing.. Finally, found sorta sound, but I can't say I liked it that much.. I had to practically 'kill' bass boost, increase mid's.. Couldn't cleary hear myself a sh1t, I mean, 'swaps' and so on.. due to that messed up in solo. So, once again, it proved - no matter how much/little you know about the amp's, you can 'judge' them by simply plugging in and checking the sound(using same basse's eq) like if you'd playing on your 'staff' amp.. I think, if there'll be any possibility in future gigs, I'll be bringing my own beloved Laney...
-
i've defo found kind of killing tone, surely, not without your help, guys The only prob for tommorow is that there's gonna be some other combo, Trace Elliott, they said, so I'm uncertain a bit about tone thingies... So, gig's tommorow, wish me luck, pals

For now I'm just a bass player (in the first place) and a-backing-throat in the second. Few days ago we got to rehearse without our lead singer, so I've tried to do some lead vocals - it was so much fun, though, quite tough thing at first, but, what I've felt, and, as other fellas mentioned - you can do it well with proper homework. But, for now, as I'm playing and singing together, I do the playing thing pretty much on 'autopilot' too... All in all, I'm preparing plans to take on lead singer's place on upcoming Tallica's cover 'Seek and Destroy' :brow: Newsted's back?...
-
So, last night, before rehearsing with fellas, played a lil bit with Ibazzy's eq - turned off Mid's, added about 1/3 treble and half bass. It wasn't that 'low-boomy' anymore, but it was quite crunchy and mates said, they like the sound better now. I dunno if I'll keep it, but i think that will be ok for next gig on Wednesday.. Cheers again guys, still gonna report about sound changes, and don't forget to drop some yours, if you'll find anything good Faith

The only bad thing about all this is my poor English, so I can misunderstand somethin'... Yeah, I'm using neck pup, as I play only fingerstyle, so I've discovered that 'secret distortion' formula about hardly-pushed string's and pickup's relationships I'm now goin' to rehearse, got about an hour free, so I'll play with that EQ thing. I know, I'll got some questions, but later. Cheers for answers, guys! Faith. Btw, lwtait, that's the same Ibby there

Saw reccomendation in mate's website. I was lurker at first, still am now. Who cares, I like it there, and get to know a lotta things about beiz. That's all for now.

Hello folks, So, I got Ibanez SR Prestige in ma pocket. That thing is equipped with VARI-MID III [pre-amp?], in the concrete - pickup balancer, volume knob, and Bass/Treble boost/cut; Mid Frequency/Midrange boost/cut knobs. I'm playing some Metallica covers with mates, mainly fingerstyle, so I was looking for Rob Trujell'ious tone. Few days ago on some tread about 'metal bass' I've seen people using Treble and all those high things to form the tone. Then I noticed, that I've never ever tried to adjust Treble thing - I was so concerned about 'deep end', so I mainy used Bass boost, some Mids and Mid Freq turned to the 'deep' side. Treble was off. So last night ant today I've tried to look for a new - deep and, altogether, harsh/cutting tone, but the prob is - that VARI-MID III gives you Sooooo much choices to make a tone, and if you dunno how to use it properly, you're in deep sh1t. So am I. I'm not concerned only about Treble question - the thing, that interests me, is, how you guys, especially those playing rock/metal, form your tone on your Ibanez [SR and other models' with VARI-MID preamp owners]? What's more, I'd need some as possible clear guide about doin' things with VARI-MID III.. Of course, all good advices about forming the tone from non-Ibanez owners are also welcome Sorry if this all looks stupid, but I'm so lost... I'm using my amp as cabinet, and 'taking everything' from bass, but, man, those two knobs can kill you...

Mate, I wouldn't bother, if it'd be so easy Of course, I've tried function you've mentioned, but the result I've got was white screen instead of some picture... So, you gotta do some work to get what you want
-
Tony, I think I've worked it out. So, go to that page, click the right mouse's button, find "Page Info" function and find "catched snapshot function" there. Click that. Now, you'd see some Googles flimfams about codes and stuff at the top of the page. Find a sentence "Click here for the cached text only". Click on that 'catched text' and you will enter the same site in some different form. Now, scroll down and you'll find the sames images. Click right button on your chosen image again and look for "View backround image". So, 'view' that image, and with right click again, 'Save Image As..."... Congrats, you SHOULD have the image... If something's not clear, give me a word.

A week or few after buying bass I called to some teacher, and stated 'I want to play metal'. So, all in all, we started on primitive technique things and he gave me those first simple tips n tricks. I got musical education, but it was quite hard at the beginning. Nowadays, I go to him rarely, because of lack of the time, and other thingies... Tried to go to some other, funky/rock stuff player to learn some slap, but only did so few times. Can't give slap as much time as I'd like. But I'll continue, I think, if I'll find questions to ask about. On the other hand, I try to communicate with other bass players as much as I can, watch them closely at gigs, doing sorta 'social-work' in few local forums and so on... Communicating is the key.
-
They'd do, but, If I ain't wrong, shipping, no matter how much things I ask for, costs 25euro. I don't have anything much to take from 'em at the moment.

So, when I got my Ibazzy SR Prestige, it was equipped with Elixir Nanoweb's. Wonderful strings, covered with thin protection-coat, but I'm playing with 'em for about 9 months, coating is almost off, though they still produce punchy sound, I think, I need to change 'em. But the prob is, I can't get those damn Elixir's here in Lithuania at the moment, and due to interest to try somethin' different I've chosen Rotosound Swing Bass. I wanted same gauge as Elixirs were ( 45/125), but there's no same in stock, so I'm thinking to try 40/60/80/100/125. What I'm interested in, would there be any real difference in sound between them, due to manufacturer and gauge?? And, at last, are those Roto's really worth money - I've never had any bussiness with them before. I'm playing rock/metal and some slappy/funky stuff sometimes.
-
But they're damn good too Mine came with Elixies, but I thought all Ibazzy models get those. But on low end models Elixirs would do about 1/4 of price, soo... Stupid me :[

I'd suggest 5-string-fretted and Steve Bailey's '5string bass school' in .pdf

It was on Wednesday... but I've 'forgot' this thread for some time, lol. So, "Combo" music club, here in Kaunas, probably the best sound operators in whole country - sound was awesome. I don't have a spare compressor, so, when I got into the place, noticed that Trace's combo's without one. Asked a friend ( and probably a tour mate from other band ) to come and see us, and bring a comp, of course Finally, he didn't make it, so I've played without one, but sound was quite good. Show's idea was to a dozen of musicians/bands to play for about 15 minutes each. There was some pop, some funk-rap, some sh*tty punk-rock. And, of course, some 'metal'. We did three Metallica covers. 'Heating' band took all our sound-check time. They s u c k'ed. Crowd was dead, thankfully some friends came to see us. Sound was good. It was a good rehearsal facing other, serious metal gig. We'll take 'Combo' every month, just because of wonderful PA. And'll do some funky jam next time there
