So, I gotta help for a friend, bass-playing-beginner, to choose the very first bass.. He says, he's a bit more after jazz/funk music. Because of low bass-assortment here, in Lithuania; due to waiting for 'booked' instrument from for about three to ten months, we're choosing between Ibanez BTB670 and Fret-King Perception... Any recommendations about these? Fret-King claims to be ex-Vintage craftsman's mark - it's not popular at all for now (re-selling problems..), and is quite 'young' in bass-making industry ( there are only 4 basses to choose from Fret-King..) So, these circumstances are getting me away from it a bit, but I gotta try him in shop tomorrow first... Ibanez is a bit 'clearer' to me, as I'm playing one, but, on the other side, never had any intimate relations with BTB either(tomorrow's the first time ), so waitin' for opinions, also.. Cheers Faith
-
I forgive. Both of you. And thanks for info, Ped, I'll try it properly tomorrow! I'm gonna have a few questies later, so, I'll keep it updated here.. Cheers, guys Faith
-
Ah, finally I've figured it out myself (didn't do all those 'tricky' licks..), but added some 'secondary' notes, octaves, a bit of groove, and here we go..! Thanks for your help anyway, mate! Btw, everyone, check this song's bassline - it super-de-licious
-
I got to do it for this evening's rehersal, nothing special, but I'm out of time... And there are no tabs for this... I only need to know root notes - verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, so on... Anyone can help? Need that sh1te fast...! Cheers, Faith.
-
Omg, I've wrote this to wrong forum... Sorry for that. Ped, can you put it into Effects forum? Well, Clauster, I meant, there are only 3 simulations of compressors, put in XT Live, and I'm looking after using one of them... I'm not saying, they're best, simply wanna know, which is worth attention most..
-
So, we got three there - BOSS CS-1, MXR Dynacomp and Line6 Vetta.. Which one do ya prefer, guys? I'm looking after a bit of compression, but dunno what's really worth choosing, so, waitin' for opinions..

Great bassists who have had a negative effect on modern bass?
Faithless replied to Oscar South's topic in General Discussion
Also i think rob trujillo has had a negative effect on metallica, i think he influenced them towards the nu metal sort of side of things, though that could have been the fact that st anger was rushed due to his alcohol problem and numerous other things, we'll see how death magnetic turns out, not good though probably.
I can agree with the beginning, but - "alcohol and numerous other things"??? WTF, bro? Rob was never known about having ANY problems with alcohol ( the one, who really did have, was James Hetfield..). The other thing- Rob didn't 'influenced' St.Anger album at all. cuz he came to them a bit too late(The very Bass was played by Bob Rock and James..)... Only DVD recording was made with Rob. So, I see a couple of nonsenses here, bro [sorry, i can't be silent, when i see word 'Tallica...] -
Here's the link to PDF version of the thing... Btw, he started using Gibson Les Paul. At least, it fits his wear.

Where would you say MOST of your sound comes from?
Faithless replied to Tait's topic in General Discussion
Bass EQ gives the Sound. Fingers does the trick. -
Dunno, if you already got an answer, but, for thingies like that, I'd try asking here... http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/forum/index.php You can see some top-delicious Ibazzy porn there, too... Cheers, Faith.

I've 'found' this technique myself, while watching Rob Trujillo playing with his Ring and Pinky fingers raised(Thumb on pickup), and couldn't understand, how, playing the stuff so fast, he doesn't ring, for eg. B string( when plucking E).. So, after a bit of practice I've figured the Thing out.. But I don't use it as my main muting technique, only in exceptive cases. When playing with two fingers, I use so-called Jaco's muting technique ( incorporate Ring and Pinky fingers..).. Three? 'Floating' thumb. But it doesn't 'float' in the air - it rests on the string/pup. Anyone's also about Jaco?
-
Already found that, mate..
-
Haven't watched the others, but the 1st one, IMO, is nothing *too* special...

Gotcha!!!!! taken from bassplayer.com ...... (Not that long he dropped us his new record, called "So Low"), sooo, gear, used there, was.... : ... Basses on So Low … Solo Fender SRB 6, Aria AVB-SB 6, Ibanez custom SDGR 6 ...
-
Checked out Aria's site - couldn't find a damn model, similar to this... It looks like one of those new, 20th Anniversary SR Ibbies, like Geiler has, just with a bit less Eq knobs One more, I've found out there...
-
How should we do one? Make a sticky thread about Ibby chicks or make sorta friend-list or whatever exists here? Btw, tell me, if it's Ibby, guys...
-
Umm, sorry, but, shouldn't this be in General Bass Discussion or Offtopic forum?..
-
I'll share my impressions, when I'll try that one.
-
Thanks for thoughts, guys, I'll give SRX a go this or next week, I believe. And, 170 pounds is OK for used one, right? P.S. As the Rare-ones, we'd set Ibazzy owners/lovers club, shouldn't we?..
-
So, any thoughts about SRX's from their owners?..
-
So, there's an opportunity to buy second handed five-string Ibanez SRX505 for about 170 pounds. It's quite a bargain, I think (right? ).. Buuuuuut.. I got Ibanez SR1005 Prestige one, so, what's I'm interested in - is the sound of SRX's and SR's quite different or not? Cuz, the second bass I was thinking about to take 'in future', shouldn't have been very similar to the current one... The good thing about having it would be using SRX one with different tuning for my other metal band... It's said, SRX one is a bit more for rock/metal thingies, but, maybe anyone's here OK with using it for quite a different music? So, I'd like to get a few words about SRX in 'sounding' and 'universality' way. And, take some GAS ... Aybaaaneeeez

What 'standarts' would ya suggest to start from? We're not total beginners on our instruments, but nothing too special for now. James Brown is not our goal in funk, we simply need some standarts to get on, and go on with harder thingies time by time.. Maybe there's sorta book or somethin' with songs and etc. suggestions? Sorry, if there's already a thread for that, I'm just too tired to mess about...
What Def Lep do you have to do? Generally you'll play three (or maybe five) notes - E A D G or C Living on a Prayer is easy, but then again I've been playing it week-in week-out for 5 years
Hmm, Lep's songs are Hysteria and Pour Some Sugar With Me.. Yeah, they're easy song's, but Bon Jovi's song, compared to whole list is a bit bigger one there, hehe. Well, we got Faith No More's - Easy (heard a few fast bass licks there) and WhiteSnake's one - those should be the most serious of all left - Korn, U2, The Rasmus, other stuff...
-
So, as I've already 'insulted' somewhere here not that long ago, gotta do, and do WELL, 25 songs over a week. Dunno, if it's 'hell a lot' or little, but I've spotted that there is no more time for a different type of bassin', i mean, learning some Real material, exercises and stuff, only staring at the monitor with Guitar Pro and Audioretoucher turned on, listening/checking notes, and trying to memorise the whole sh1t.. Thank God, it's only for a few days... There are some easy ones (I'm starting to 'like' Def Leppard ), and a few tougher ones - Bon Jovi's - Living on A Prayer, Whitesnake's - Too Many Tears and so on... And got to say, learning and learning and learning cover stuff day after day p1sses off a bit.. So, have ya ever faced 'time slave' thing, boys and girls? Just fancy, how good/bad my situation is compared to others... Approximately 17/25 done...

So, that's a bit old, but I wanted to share a bit about how the bass is plucked here, in Baltic states... There were mainly Russian players, but the headliner of the show, Domas Aleksa, is my compatriot, Lithuanian mate Here's his two-part show up here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrkUepDL06o...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-2HHL9ZgWQ&feature=user (solo) And here's the rest of the show (just turn the mouse a bit down - you'll see the whole playlist...) : http://www.youtube.com/user/rigabassday Enjoy!
