  1. What’s the deal with these? They have a curved base rather than a flat one, in my experience all nut slots are cut flat, so has anyone used these and had to fettle either the nut or slot to get it to fit?

  2. Hi folks,

Any recommendations for fret polishing kits? I’ve just acquired a Highway One Jazz and the frets are, quite frankly, grim. That bloke Paul from Milehouse Studios (check out his YT channel, highly entertaining) would have a field day with this particular bass…

    What are you guys using…?

  3.

    ***PRICE DROP NOW £1300***

2010 US Stingray, 2EQ, CAR with rosewood board. One of the limited edition 133 basses, full fat ‘ray but with a soft gig bag case instead of a hard shell job.

This is in excellent condition with one very minor ding on the top edge, and the pickguard is quite marked but obviously easily replaceable. Comes with a Hipshot D-tuner (long key though instead of short… doh), if you want the original tuner key I’ll chuck it in. I’ve also replaced the pickup with a Nordstrand MM4.2, which sounds flippin’ great.

She’s quite heavy (10lb) but with a decent wide strap it feels ok.

***EDIT*** now comes with the option of a Warwick Rockbass semi-rigid case - photos added.

Loathe to post this but can at buyer’s (insured) expense, or can meet in person at either Portsmouth, Southsea, Southampton or Lymington (I’m on the I.O.W.)

One of the best that I played was a Squier Pro Tone Precision Bass V. Despite the soapbars...

That’s nice. I don’t think I’ve heard of those Squiers before.

Oh no. Because of this revelation or?...

No, because I’ve struggled with it generally. I’ve always wanted one since I started playing, but the neck and weight of it has put me off. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lovely example, but I’m now at an age where I don’t really want to be fighting it for 2+ hours while gigging it.

Probably a genuine mistake. Poplar is often preferred under solid colours by certain companies as it's said the grain isn't overly attractive. Squier even did it with the CV 70s Jazz Bass, the solid black option is poplar-bodied whereas the natural finish is maple-bodied.

Thinking of moving it on if anyone is interested…. 😂

The Bass Gallery sold one a while back for a similar price also. If it's any consolation you'll get your money back if you decide to offload it.

Phew! To be fair I had no idea about these limited models or their price point. I kind of shrugged off the fact that it came with a soft case as I just assumed the previous owner preferred it over a hard case.

One thing I will say about it is that it is heavy, (10lb) - it was listed as alder, but it’s heavier than any jazz bass I’ve owned.

I’ve also replaced the pickup (weak G output, as per…) with a Nordstrand MM4.2.

I might be off on the exact price but you paid less for it than one of it's hard-cased siblings right?

I bought it used earlier this year from Bass Bros. Candy Apple Red, 2eq, soft case, 2010 model…:

    £1500

    😬

I remember Bass Direct had some limited edition Stingrays some years back and they were priced lower than regular Stingrays. From memory it was because they only came in red or blue (possibly black also),had a gig-bag rather than the usual hardcase, had a 2-band eq and...was poplar-bodied! I have no personal issue with poplar but find it interesting it was used on a cut-price Stingray and now on this Pino re-issue. I wonder if his original was made of it. I've owned poplar basses and it's never bothered me tonally I might add. Ok Google just helped me out,the Stingrays I mentioned were known as "Limited Edition 133" . Bass Direct had a couple back in roughly 2014 and they well under a grand, about £850 or so.

I think I have one of these limited edition ones, and given what you’ve said about them, I may well have paid over the odds for it….🥺

  13. Thank you guys, I should add that weight is also a consideration. I bought a full fat US stingray back in March (4 string) and apart from realising ‘rays aren’t really for me, the thing is heavy, so it will probably end up in the for sale section in order to fund something P/5/tasty.

  14. Morning all,

I’m interested in your opinions/experiences of 5er Ps, particularly Fender or Sire.

I’ve found myself drawn back to 5ers since picking up an RB Streamer last year, but I’m after something a bit more traditional looking.

My main concern with 5 string Ps is the B string - do they have a certain amount of clarity or have you found them to be a bit on the wooly side?

    Fanx. 😊

😂 They are off the hook good as a band aren't they! The bass player just makes me want to give up.....effortlessly cool too. Only certain people can rock flares and tank tops.

The guitarist impressed me the most. Plays like the secret love child of Nile Rogers and Edward Van Halen… 😁
