  1. Hi all,

Can anyone point me in the direction of a place where I can source a small sheet of black tolex? I need to re-cover a couple of corner patches on my GK combo but I don’t need it in the quantities most vendors sell it in. An A5 sized sheet would be more than enough. Cheers all. 😊

I had this issue with a sire p7 bass on the p pickup.. it turned out to be a bad solder connection.. bit of soldering fixed it..

However it's now developed the same thing on the j pickup 🙄

Haven't got round to sorting it yet.

Maybe try (very carefully) wiggling some bits like pickup wires in the control cavity while playing 🤔

I take no responsibility for "over" wiggling

That actually makes a lot of sense, as I recently screwed the pickups down a bit more as they were a little high. Thanks man! 😊

  3. Afternoon folks,

Some help/advice required here please... :)

My BBG5A has developed a slight crackling noise whenever a note is played. Its almost like you can hear it in the background, but it is noticeable. Does anyone know if these basses have issues with the pre-amp or the pickups that might cause this? I've used contact cleaner on everything and replaced the battery, I've also tried two different amps and a handful of cables, but the problem persists.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Cheers.

I have two currently.  Really nice basses which punch well above their price point.

    Hi Greek,

As you've had experience with these basses, maybe you could solve an issue for me.

  5. Got this last month from fellow BC’er 6feet7 - BBG5A. Not sure of the year, but possibly ‘97-‘98. Great condition for its age, bar a few small dents in the clear coat.

My first 5er for 15 years or so. Sounds great through my GK rig. 😊

I might be interested in one with bass playing women. 😊

Doesn't have to be just precisions either.

Carol Kaye's sunburst P with tort, Suzi Quattro's sunburst P with gold, Kim Deal's red P with silver plate, Kim Gordon's Thunderbird, Tina Weymouth's Mustang, Kira Roessler's blue Rick, Darcy Wretzky's black Jazz with star stickers, Kristen Pfaff's black on black P with Spock sticker, Josephine Wiggs Stingray, Jenny Lee Lindberg's white Rick, Cait O'Riordan's black/black/maple P with IRL sticker just a few that stick in my mind.

Also just as an FYI cuz I feel obligated as a transfem bass player, Women is preferable to Female, cuz we're so used to hearing female in contexts where people are deliberately excluding trans women.

    Nice list! :)

Looks like that's the next project sorted then! 😁

    One for me please.

I do feel Carol Kaye is an omission though.

It’s a difficult one. Part of the remit I set for myself was that each bass had to be distinctive from the rest in terms of colour/wood combinations etc. I didn’t include JJ Burnel’s black and maple P for this reason because visually it looks the same as the Roger Waters one. The only deviation from this rule is the three sunburst/maple precisions (Duck Dunn/Sting/NWR), and I included those because even though they share the same colour combination, they are distinctive enough from each other that visually they don’t clash.

I do love the idea of an all-female bass print similar to this and my last effort, so I think that will be my next project. 😊

  8. Hi all,

Right - all those that expressed an interest in acquiring one of these prints please raise your hands. I’d almost forgotten about this until @mowf messaged me last week asking if he’s missed a print run.

Life has (as it so often does) gotten in the way, but things have evened out somewhat, so again, if there is enough interest, I’ll get a run printed. Haven’t worked out a price yet (as I need a quote from the printers) but as soon as I get a final number I can PM each of you with details. 😊

  9. Just two…

USA Fender Jazz deluxe 5er, 50th anniversary with the Suhr pickups, in crimson burst, sold it on BC to some chap from Littlehampton (I think)

Ibanez ATK 300 in surf green, absolute beast of a bass, did the Stingray thing brilliantly.

Thinking of moving my G&L Tribute jazz on, but I know that I’ll probably regret it at some point…

EDIT: managed to find some photos. The jazz isn't a photo of my actual bass, but identical to the one I had.

I always wanted to name a band “Free Beer”

Me and wifey often go out to see live music. One of the local venues had a board outside with “Friday - free jukebox” written on it.

Mrs thought Free Jukebox was a new band, and we should check them out…

  11. Wight Hot Pipes (coz we is from the Isle Of Wight and have a bagpiper in our ranks). I only joined back in October and the band has been around for a while, so the name was obviously already established.

DuneBuggy is a covers band playing absolutely anything we bloody well like. Lots of names were suggested, DuneBuggy came from a POTUSA song. The name doesn’t refer to anything in particular, and is as random as our set list. 😊

  12. Madness. I've owned a fair few Fenders (and Squiers) and as much as I love them, I've always struggled to understand how a simple, passive mass produced instrument that is basically a result of cookie-cutter production techniques can be so expensive, especially when you compare their US models to something like a Shuker, ACG, etc, where you can have a custom built bass for not much more dosh than what Fender charge for their top end instruments.
