By and large I agree with icastle here. Why bother with demo tapes? A link to myspace even in an email is all we use. Also allocate one person to deal with all the crap if you can. It was always me but in my current band it's the singer. He's spent 7yrs building his contacts. Again it's really about getting people to like you. Always thank the soundman and the landlord / landlady. After all you are working with them so you want to get on, right?

Thanks guys, it was new but more of a mild annoyance than anything more. It seems like a nice head & the fan noise, whilst there, didn't seem as bad as other threads seem to suggest

If it's plugged in & not "off" should the light be on all the time? I've had mine 15 minutes & the light has just gone out. Presumably a faulty bulb?

I'm in touch with my feminine side if that helps? It'd be nice to have a wider mix certainly I'm sure there are more on here than people realise. We do tend to assume people are male and also we have some people who post a lot & others who come to just soak up the chat from a distance

It depends on the genre too. It's worse with covers bands and some genres lend themselves more to performance than technical ability. A folk band or a loud rock band can have slightly wayward vocals but with soul music it doesn't work. I try to only work with good singers and drummers personally. I'm not afriad of working with musicians who are worse than me but generally I try and work with people who are of a similar or higher standard so I can push myself.

I have to say if that had been me I'd be equally fuming! MAJOR EDIT - Sorry I read that wrong. I thought he'd had buyers back out on him. D'oh!!!

The finish quality is what I notice most but as with most brands the disproportionate jump in price is one we all have to justify ourselves.

Declare it, you should do. People try bringing instruments over in old cases but I don't suppose you want to put your daughter through an ordeal at Customs if it is challenged? I've imported a load of instruments and you get charged about 17% of the price in tax

I have two basses which I've stripped back to the wood - 1970s ones too so I've devalued them in the process! Silddx, you must think I'm crazy! I did it as a couple of players in the 70s did it & I liked it. Much more of a visual than a tonal thing for me. I'd add I have a beautiful Sunburst bass too & I really don't have a preference

I've just taken the plunge and ordered one after Monday's little, ahem, explosion with my old 90s Ampeg head. I've been interested in these since before they were released and some of the recent comments have made me realise that this should be my ideal lightweight second head as a minimum.

Just rub the heads with a dry brillo pad to make them duller. It's what I do and it works a treat. It doesn't have to be an exact science as it's such a small part.

I nearly started a thread like this a few months ago... we had a stage over the summer of people posting "My new purchase is the best thing in ages" threads only for the star of that thread to wind up in the For Sale section inside a few weeks. It's partly about the search for tone, one sympton is buying half way decent gear rather than holding out for the real deal. I bought a lot of £300 - £500 basses a few years ago and what eased my problem was buying what I [b]really[/b] wanted - suddenly everything else was redundant. I also agree the ease of sharing gear on this site has probably inspired a lot of purchases. I've had some great trades and I never gig without gear acquired from Basschat. Stuff tends to hang around for at least a year before I move it on generally but I can't pretend I hold a record to be proud of.
