*At least that's what I remember from about 20 years ago.
Passion then pudding, passion then pudding etc I can cope.

3.

there is a certain irony in using a Venn diagram to demonstrate someones nerdiness!
4.
This idea of keeping notes so you know in advance that when strings will die can only lead to one thing, boredom. How will you ever know what dull strings sound like again if you never hear them as dull. Life has its ups and downs. It is part of what makes life so interesting. When you have a bad gig/practice with bad strings you then have the new strings to look forward to. Perfection is not perfect. Just concentrate on the playing.
I know what dull strings sound like -dull! Why go through the bad gigs/practices at all? It will be like having a series of passionate affairs with beautiful women but with none of the awkward breakup stuff in between! Pudding after pudding even if you don't eat your meat!
5.
I bet he doesn't restring his own basses either.
Probably doesn't pay for his strings!
6.
I have a txt file on my music PC that records some info about my bases - their serial numbers, date of last string change, what strings, any major mods I've done, any big alteration in their set-ups, nothing exhaustive I don't think I have an awful memory !
I was going to use pen and paper!
7.
I bet Lemmy doesn't have a bass spreadsheet. In fact, I bet he doesn't have a computer.
He has a guitar tech.
8.
I've only got three basses so it's not hard. And two of them are strung with La Bella flats, so that's the next 20 years sorted, then. My one bass that is strung with rounds will be getting new strings about every six weeks as I'm experimenting with different rounds. In any case it's easier to figure out when rounds need changing, you just don't get that zing after a while, you can hear when that happens. Sorry, I'm coming on like I'm down on the idea - I'm not, it's just not practical for me. Jesus Christ! You're right, that IS tragic... (your word, not mine!) I'm guessing you don't have kids..?
No, not at all just trying to explain my reasons for doing this. Yes, you can hear when rounds die but I'd rather head it off than struggle through another rehearsal on dead strings because I hadn't seen it coming. I use four basses, three have rounds and my fretless has black nylons so it won't require much record keeping.
9. This is purely for me , I don't care what anyone else may do if I sold the bass. You may put new strings on when you buy a bass but can you say with confidence when any of your basses were strung and what with? Why wait for it to sound dead when if you know that brand X strings die after 6 months you can replace them at 5? Calling it a string log may be more accurate.
10. At a recent rehearsal my bass sounded crap! I later realized that the strings are dead "but I only replaced then a few months back...er I think it was a few, maybe a year?" It occurred to me that if I kept a log for each of my main basses I'd know when they were strung and what with etc. I could make a note of any adjustments to action etc and for personal amusement what gigs I play on them. It will help me find out how long I can expect certain strings to last and hopefully avoid the" my bass suddenly sounds dead" situation. It will also make me a massive nerd.
11. I had Westfield P and was much impressed , bought it on a whim and enjoyed it's company for a few years before selling it to a friend. Their Music Man copy is pretty good too. No idea about the jazz but I'd be fairly confident that it's going to be ok.
12.
Unless I'm missing some kind of joke , the carpet is there for that exact purpose. Drumkits tend to slide away when you play them unless they're on a rug or piece of carpet.
You're missing some kind of joke.
13. Not our drummer, carpet or stage but you get the idea.
14. ...and the drummer sticks his kit right in the middle.
15. Rehearsed last night, sounded great (in parts!) most of the songs were falling into place , gimme all your lovin was the only one that really struggled, guitarist needs to do some more work on it and I need to get on top of the vocals (maybe change key) Last night's session was primarily a "lets see if it works" thing, we're all busy for the next couple of months and will only rehears sporadically until the autumn when we'll make a video and record a demo.
16. We are keeping it simple for now, some Lynyrd Skynrd is on the cards , just trying to work out how to do justice to their stuff as a trio. Some Elvis songs will make an appearance at some point too. It's mostly cheesy crowd pleasers so far and a few we enjoyed playing in the other band. What we'll be trying this evening: Fulsom Prison Blues Okie From Muskogee Green River Long haired Country Boy Copperhead Rd Tush La Grange Sharp dressed man Gimme all your lovin ....and with tongue firmly in cheek .... Conway Twitty - I see the want to in your eyes Madonna - Hank Panky (learned it for a panto a few years back as "Widdow Tw***y" ,some of the lyrics are massively wrong when sung by a man. "Don't slobber me with kisses , I can get that from my sister")
17.
Fool for your stockings is a lovely early ZZ song, plenty of light and shade to be had there
I'll bare it in mind when we need more songs . thanks
18. A few of the well known songs + a selection of songs by Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, Merle Haggard,Creedence Clearwater , Conway Twitty and er Madonna! (anything a red neck might enjoy)
19. I'm rehearsing with a new band tomorrow , it's a bit of a departure for me. My first covers band My first exclusive lead vocal (only shared vocal duties until now) The first band that I have been the main instigator. After depping with a local tongue in cheek country band I got to thinking that I could do with the money and it could be fun too. The band I dep for has anything up to eight members , I decided to drastically reduce things and called in a guitarist and drummer to form a country rock trio (with a definite nod towards ZZ Top). I've gone through the songs with the guitarist and tomorrow we will play together for the first time. Slightly apprehensive but looking forward to it.
20. Built from cheap bits off ebay for precisely this purpose! Cost less that £100
21.
I'd have thought you should earth each section. All you need is a single thin wire going under them all, so it's not a big deal.
Ahh but you're earthing the circuitry not the strings , there is only one circuit that needs earthing. (I could be wrong, it has happened before apparently)
22. I'd have thought that one is enough. Electricity isn't too fussy , as long as you have an earth of some sort it's happy.
23. Wonderful player, very sad news , goodbye and thank you for the music.
24. Sadly my phone is too old to take a useful picture but I will write them down.
25. They fiddled with the knobs and it sounds great! I loaned it out to a friend who runs a "Dub Club" for use by a visiting band, I couldn't make it that night so I don't know who. I used it tonight and it sounds great , good bass but with a bit more Rickesque grow (I played a jazz)l, my tone pot (on the bass)seems to give me more range of tones too. I haven't had a chance to look carefully at what they did but I think (s)he's taken some of the mid out.
