Just get a fan that has a nice balance of noise/CFM? I.e. the biggest CFM you can get for the lowest dB. I imagine they're 80mm fans, the one in my old Behringer head seemed to be around that size.

Got it yesterday and had a quick play when I got home. I love it! Excellent pedal. Using it as a USB audio interface, all through headphones. It's great. I'll start fiddling soon enough to get a couple of "main" sounds. Should be fun!
Cool .. Tip number one is read the manual No, really, read it first. Just go off to a cafe or somewhere and read it through from cover to cover before having a go... Sorry, I know this may affect your standing in the lads' community, rugby squad and down the pub ... oh and people will expect you to ask for directions and maybe even multitask at some point but it's worth it to avoid hair pulling and initial dissapointment There's a few threads on settings and stuff on here so a search is worthwhile too
Cheers mate. I actually downloaded a .pdf of the manual from Zoom's site, so I've read it through, and I'm not unfamiliar with Zoom pedals anyway. Stupid couriers couldn't get my address right so now it's turning up today, when I'm working 9-5. Gah!

Ordered a b2.1u yesterday, turning up today. This wait is killing me! It'll turn up at 3.45pm when I'm leaving for work! Bloody typical!
-
Pah. Last week I was looking at the Zoom B2.1u, and the cheapest was Soundslive at £83 + postage. The website said it included power supply. Now I'm looking around and it seems to have gone up in price everywhere, and doesn't include a power supply? SoundsLive now has it for £109. Shame. But I agree with getting the b2.1u, it seems like a great FX pedal, and have got nothing but fun from previous Zoom guitar FX pedals I've used.
-
All the way back from bassworld too, although I never really talk that much!
-
I agree! It sounds amazing! I'd love to get my hands on one.
-
Damn do I want one of these! Slowly becoming available in shops that ship to the UK. Shame the price is around £279-289 though. Tut. I'm gonna save and get me one of these. Off to Uni in Sept (hopefully) so the audio interface will come in very handy. I realise the b2.1u has one too, but I have a personal trait in loving big massive multi-fx pedals and this one looks the dogs danglies!

Those FretLord Illuminators look crazy (the LED ones that go on the head/body and light up the neck). I'd consider buying some.

With regards to modding the bridge, would much drilling be required, or would it be a simple case of dropping a new one in?
Perfectly valid reason I've got a Zoom B2.1u too .. I'm moving away from it to seperates as there are some problems for me with using the zoom on stage but in the bedroom it's great - headphone out and USB connecton to the recording s/w it comes with and all for 70 quid ... I'll be hanging on to mine for all the stuff it can do that I don't use on stage ..
Both on here and on TB (am I allowed to say that?) people speak very highly of it, especially for the price tag. The USB will come in very handy, allowing me to record and play with songs through headphones. One feature I didn't find in the manual was one that I miss from an old Zoom 505II (guitar) pedal I had a few years ago. You could use the pedals to move up through the patches, but instead of switching straight away, you could get the patch ready, then just tap both switches and the new patch is used. I really wish this was a feature on the b2, but I doubt I'd use it much other than having my one "tone" and maybe a couple of slightly different ones.
You mean you'd fit a scratch plate to that bass? nooooooooo don't do that
Haha, I wouldn't fit a 'plate to the deluxe, it looks so much nicer without, but it's part of my reason I'm still looking at the Affinity as I love a black Jazz with a white 'plate. I'm also thinking of getting myself a Zoom b2.1u at some point too.
-
Thanks OldGit. Tempting to go for the SX. Thanks yorks5stringer. I'd looked at the deluxe and was tempted, but I was hoping to just go for a passive bass, and I'd really like it to come with a pickguard etc as I'm none too skilled with a drill. Argh, I also really like the headstock on the Affinity with the 5 in a row tuner layout! I hate this feeling haha. I guess I should explain that I've been quite lazy with my bass playing. I've been playing since about 16. I turn 20 in September. But I've never got further than really playing at home along with songs, and figuring them out. I spend near two years in a band, and also played in the college production of "Summer Holiday" (I have to say, the hustle and stress that came with all the rehearsals for the production were thoroughly enjoyable!). I really need to get into learning how to actually play. I have a long way to go. I play allsorts, and having the B string would be more than ideal as I'm not a fan of detuning. I just want a cheap 5 string to get me going again. I'm gonna put in the time to start teaching myself all the scales and such (I've played piano for 15 years, also self-taught, and as such I'm not as good as I could be). Wow. I'll shush now. [Edit]: Although now that I look, the Squier Deluxe looks really nice in Olympic White...hmm.

The natural one looks amazing, but I'm really unsure about getting a bass imported. I've never done that before. I'm not looking to purchase just yet, but hopefully by summer. I just had a quick look through the sticky of "Importing basses" but it didn't really give me a clue about how everything works, just how to calculate costs. Are the Affinity series really that bad?
-
...can it be done? I'd be willing to buy a "cheap" bass and maybe make a few mods. I'm not particularly planning on doing any gigs, mainly bedroom playing. The only Squier one seems to be the Affinity Jazz V, but it seems that the 'Affinity' series isn't all that good? If I were to make just a couple of mods (pups and bridge) perhaps, could I get decent bass for AROUND £200? Cheers in advance! Karl.

The Vintage EST96AF (5 string active Stingray copy) for £129 delivered was pretty decent. Only niggle was a little fretbuzz and the fret edges were a little rough, but other than that, I wish I hadn't had to sell it! I miss it. May buy another.
Is a Greenday song of sufficient complexity for a BMus audition?
Longview is one of their more complex lines
Its not that bad really, its called skelmersdale, Nr Ormskirk.
Gah. I feel for you mate. Skem is crap. My Grandma lives in Skem. As does my current roommate (we're living in South Shields atm). I live in Billinge, just down the road from ya!

That's quite the indepth introduction! Welcome to the boards!

This is a Peavey Dynabass 5. Used to have one, amazing bass. Plenty of punch for a passive bass, I really can't see going wrong for £100. Dodgy pics (few years old), but it was a lovely bass: Ah memories. My trusty Behringer rig too. Ahhhhh

Thank you all for the suggestions! Can anyone find any data for the string spacing of a few of the suggestions? I'm not sure if I have a brain today and can't seem to find any. Particularly the OLP MM32 and the Ibanez ATK305 and SR505. Cheers, Karl

In my old punk band I had loads of great sounding ideas in my head (just little runs instead of root note chugging) and I so badly wanted to play them, I could just never translate it into something that I could play and would be in the right key/scale etc. I've played piano for nigh on 16 years, and so perhaps I should be better at this (knowing scales etc), but I'm completely self-taught in all my musical endeavors, and as such, crap! Maybe I will invest in some lessons (bass)!

I was given this bass - what upgrades would you do?
karlbbb replied to Perry's topic in Bass Guitars
I used one of the Westfield P-Bass copies on my bands first demo, and while you could tell it was a cheap bass, it wasn't actually that bad! -
Usually the drummers high hat side:
Why do you want a 5 string?
My first bass was a 5 string, then my current is only a 4. I miss the 5. I'm not the biggest fan of having to downtune, and I like the extra range at the bottom.
