I love the Dunlop Torex Triangle orange picks, think they’re 0.6mm. Plenty of nice attack when played hard and give a really consistent sound/volume. I find with hard picks I have to crank up the compressor but probably just due to sloppy technique. For guitar I usually play with heavier 0.73-3mm picks depending on the music.

Na that’s fair enough! I’ve enjoyed odd tracks of theirs in the past but never felt compelled to listen to more, put their latest album on and loved it.

I really wanted a Bass Block but couldn’t find them anywhere. I think the selling point for me was that it seems to sound great but it’s transparent enough that you could just drop whatever preamp pedal fit the bill. In the end I went GK fusion and super happy though, it sounds great and I can always go straight into the return and use as a power amp if I fancy a different preamp pedal.

The GK Legacy and Fusion are great heads. I have the Fusion S and it’s incredibly versatile, I don’t feel like it sacrifices much for it’s size. They crop up on here every now and then for good prices.

Heard good things about the Hamstead Subspace, there’s one for sale on here I think too.

I really like the sound of the EAE pedals although I’m yet to get my hands on one.

Ps I was so blown away by the sounds I was getting out of my GT1k that I came very close to selling my amp and replacing with a little baby sumo power amp. In the end i decided I’m not quite ready to part ways but realistically there’s no reason I couldn’t get away with just the pedal and an FRFR speaker for gigs.

My mate got the MX5 for guitar and loves it. It’s a very neat package with a very usable ui and some amazing tones. Honestly I think with any of the modern higher end multi fx offerings you can’t go wrong. Personally I opted for the BOSS GT1000 core and I’m super happy with it, so many options at your fingertips. I think I’d have been pretty happy with either the Helix or Headrush equivalent though.

I was also considering just getting a multicore cable vs buying individual cables. I know Van Damme do some good 4core cable which would be more than enough for me.

I was thinking of doing something similar for doing 4cm. It’d be 4 1/4” jacks and maybe a power cable, fancy a rockboard pedal with the little patch bay mod so I can just plug straight in. Started getting very expensive thought 😂

I think in general the real pedals will normally sound better than the emulated version but it’s so negligible with these new units. Nothing beats tinkering with a real pedal though.

I’m pretty new to effects, I’ve always just used a compressor and what ever growl I could get out of my GK. Recently got the Boss GT1000 core and was blown away by the quality of the sound. There are a few other pedals I’d still like to pair up with it but makes a great central piece for a pedal board, the options are pretty endless.

My first real bass after I built as a through neck because I was obsessed with the Warwick thumb. Always thought it was a must have for tone and playability. Then 15 years later grabbed a real Warwick Corvette bolt-on 5 string, it sounds and plays great! Honestly I can't say I've had any issues hitting higher frets on my Warwick bolt-on, a well designed cutaway and neck pocket makes all the difference. Alpher instruments basses are a great example of a bolt-on design that doesn't get in the way. Obviously bolt-on basses are always gonn have a disadvantage though. I don't really have a preference on neck style, its more down to the bass and what I'm using it for. If I was playing some grungy punk I'd reach for the bolt-on p-bass, if it was something a little more funk or progy then I'd maybe reach for my DIY 5 string through neck Warwick ripoff.

Yikes! The zoom be makes it looks a lot smaller than it is! I'm gonna have to sketch it out I think and plan a rough layout to work out what I need.

Awesome! I'm actually wondering if the the 3.0 is big enough now. Once I've got my GT1000 core, preamp pedal, tuner and an expression pedal I'll be fighting for space, that looks super portable though.

I currently love this Schecter p-4. Might just be that it's the first time I've had a 4 string in the last 20 years or that it's my first p-bass but it makes me feel happy every time I pick it up.

Wow, would love to try one of these. Saw someone selling a mk1 on FB, I'd have bought it if I had £9k burning a hole in my pocket 🤣

Think it's £285 for pre-order. I was really tempted but decided to go for something else in the end.
