1. Bump! Animato sold, the FY-2 is still up for sale. Looking for £120 or so?
2. Big +1 for the Korg Pandora PX4D!!
3. Love it! Such a great advert for the classic P bass, and I'm a J bass owner!
4. As an off-the-cuff comment, there's some killer basslines all over Michael Jackson's music!
5. Have a bump on me, this is a great piece of kit, especially for those with housemates/neighbours! Very decent price as well, especially with the power supply!
6.
I hope you slackened off the trussrod?!
Nope I dread to think what condition the neck's in now!
7. Thanks for the reply everyone, some great ideas in there. With regards to the ADGC, do you think it's likely that I'll need a new nut or will the tension in the string be enough to keep the string in a gap that's wider than it's meant to be? I'm kind of liking this idea because it'll require the least amount of modifications and I cam easily change to something else. Once I de-fret, that's it! Incidentally, how is defretting likely to sound on a cheap bass? I've replaced one of the pickups with some SDs so it had a reasonable sound, but if it'll be so far off a reasonable fretless sound, it might not be worth it? With regards to gigging, at the moment I'm a bedroom player between bands so keeping a spare isn't so much of an issue really. It's a very good point to raise though, definitiely one I'd consider if I was gigging with any kind of regularity!
8. Some years ago I bought a Jazz bass, consigning my old Bass Collection SB301 to the loft. It's still sitting up there stringless, and I thought it would be good to make little project of some description...but what should I do with it? The only things I can think of at the moment are to either de-fret it, or to maybe string it BEAD or ADGC perhaps (would need a new nut probably and would it need the bridge saddles filing?) but does anyone else have any other fun/clever ideas?
9. Good stuff Johnny, keep it coming!
10. Sorry guys, no pictures for now, I need to go up and get the pedal! It's in damn near mint condition though, and looks almost identical to picture at the following URL: http://www.ishibashi-webshop.jp/img/goods/L/601018500.jpg Sorry for the delayed response to some PMs as well, had a busy couple of days!
11. Thanks Nick, that's a hell of a profit! I paid a little more for mine lol. Off eBay funnily enough!
12. ***ANIMATO SOLD PENDING PAYMENT*** Got an Animato for possible sale. I bought it when I went to Japan in summer 2007 and I think I've used it about 3 times. As much as I love owning something incredibly rare, I am also thinking about a new amp/bass/other effects, and I don't really use much fuzz in my band. So here's the feeler thread, does anyone want to buy I'd also consider full/part exchange with a number of things really: I'm thinking about dabbling in a low-end 6 string, considering a decent multi-fx unit and I could also do with a new amp of moderate power. I reckon the going rate for these things is somewhere in the region of £200 or so, tempt me with some offers! In addition I also have a Shin-Ei Companion FY-2 fuzz pedal. This is another rare fuzz, used by Colin Greenwood of Radiohead fame on Exit Music, Mixymatosis and others. Not quite sure of the market value of these, perhaps someone can help me out? I know they're incredibly rare though!
13. Not one to boast, buy my dad wrote the bassline for that!

15. Thanks everyone! I've got my mac now and I absolutely love it although the sheer abundance of year 2 degree work (You don't become a chemical engineer overnight I guess!) has meant I've had mostly sod all time for music. Got a bit of cash after xmas though so will look into some of those suggestions!
16. It's a beaut! Shame I don't have the cash right now,been after a 5 string and a stingray for ages!
17. Sorry, but for now I'm having neither on account of my rent just leaving my bank account! I always forget about that...
18. AG:TG:UG:$WU Now, do I want this, or a new iMac....
19. Sounds like he's using the Animato there as well.
20. Evenin' all In the coming weeks I'm going to be setting myself up with one of the new iMacs. Only the basic spec, nothing too exciting! Now, I've been wanting to set up some kind of recording software for quite some time now, moreso just to roughly record ideas at the moment, with a view to perhaps starting to get down some ideas via soft synths and the like. However, seeing as I'm new to this stuff, I'd appreciate a bit of advice when it comes to how to run my bass into the mac. I'm assuming I'll need some kind of interface, or can I just go straight in? With regards to software, I'm gonna be using Garageband to start with, but maybe switching to Pro Tools once my dad sorts me out with a copy. My second question concerns the midi controller, can anyone recommend a nice cheap midi controller? I'm not too fussed about having weighted keys and all that. I'm no piano virtuoso by anyone's standard so I don't need a massive range, just enough octaves to mess around with. Cheers!
21. Another reccomendation for the ER20's! Band practice is so much more bearable now, loud noises make irritable let alone the already well known effect on hearing. If you haven't got any earplugs yet then for god sake shell out a tenner and grab some of these!
22. Doubt it helps too many people but the Ishibashi shop in Akihabara, Tokyo had a great range of stuff! Huge cabinets of pedals and racks of basses! And on that note, the Japanese staff in all the shops I went in were nothing but brilliantly friendly and helpful. Really puts the grumpy sods in our shops to shame!

Distortions

I'll just take this chance to say that I own an animato and it does a pretty good muse-esque sound but it does need to be blended with a clean signal for best results. It's undoubtedly the key to Chris' sound.
