1.
how hard is it to defret a bass?
Not too hard but you have to be careful because the barbed bit's that hold the frets in place can rip the wood of the fingerboard, oh and you may need a new nut or file the old one a little.
as umph says take your time.

  2.
I've seen them on very old J basses - remember there was a huge cover over the bridge/pup (plus mutes) so it wasn't visible. I guess it was easier than drilling an awkward hole and Leo was always trying to speed things up in the factory....

Good point, I hadn't thought about the old bridge covers.

  3.
I say....

Thats a bit Heath Robinson isnt it?

Would've thought they'd got that bit right! :)
Tis a bit odd, I read somewhere they did it like that on the original 62 Jazz so the Japanese did the same on the RI but I have never seen a genuine vintage Jazz with that little brass strip!

no USA or MIM pickguards fit the holes in the body either which is a tad annoying to.

  4. Hello,
I'm putting together another Jazz bass but this time using a Japanese 62 RI body, the earth from the pots doesn't run through the body to the bridge like most Jazzes, it goes to the rear pick-up cavity where it should then attach to a (copper?) strip which then runs to the bridge externally.

see the attached pic if my discription doesn't make sense.

Where can I get one of these little strips or something similar?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  5.
£1000 - £1200 I think

You have to be a brave man to spend 1k+ on a bass you havn't played or have a clue what it plays like IMHO of course!
Many thanks for your input, you are right about playing it first, I shall probably walk away from this beast unless I can get it for a bargain price that is!

  6.
For what its worth I had a Thumb 5-string, and it was the worst bass for neck dive I've ever played. I sold it for that reason. Also I didn't think the MEC pickups and circuit were all that. Give the bass a try if you can - see what you think.
Thanks Chop,

I'm not going to get to try it unfortunately as it too far away, ordinarily I wouldn't consider A Warwick or a six string but if it was up for sale at a good price I would consider trying it then selling or trading it if I didn't like it.

  7. Hello, I may get the chance to make an offer on a Warwick 6 string but all the info I have is that it's a thru-neck SN: B 041 89 and the picture supplied.

6 strings are one too many for me but if it's going for below average second hand prices I might give it a go!

I know nowt about Warwicks so any info and a rough idea as to how much it would sell for secondhand would be a great help.

    Cheers R.

  8.
Im very interested in this.
Not sure about the travel and pick up though.
I reckon i could make a weekend sebatical down to the big smoke though, at that price it might be worth it.
    Whereabouts in london you based?
Would you consider a meet in the middle at a service station somewhere on the M6/M1?
    Let me know.
I may very well be in the West Midlands Sat through to Weds if that's any good for you let me know?

  9.
I got a hartke ha4000 a few weeks back, but just a few days ago I found out it was faulty, so I send it back yesterday to the guy, that one was exactly 12.2kg btw, but I guess the 3500 might be a little lighter, still, they are good, but heavy as f*** amps, well, compared to the mark bass I had, that was light as anything.. I'd buy this off you when I get my money back but I'm gonna leave replacing it until after xmas, need the money!! good luck.
Sorry to here you got a duff HA4000 mate, I thought they were built proof!

    al the best R.

  10. Hello, thanks for all the comments re postage.

    let me explain my situation.

    Are you sitting comfortably?

I have actually found a box and some packing material that this will fit in but at the moment there is zero chance of me being at home during the week for a courier to collect it and due to an ill relative I have to be on standby to leg it to the West Midlands at short notice. basically it's almost imposible for me to commit to being in half a day waiting for a courier.

    Sorry to be a pain.

    Regards R.
