1. Just offered the Edinburgh fella 10k cash for it. Let's see if that flushes him from his hole...........
2. Virtually same wording. HAve emailed the Craigslist seller.
3. OK, SCAM ALERT!! Check this out: http://london.craigslist.co.uk/msg/2661885016.html
4. Any Lothian BCers get a reply from the seller??
5.
The sunburst looks dreadful, I've never seen a Fender body that dark by the edges.
The early productiosn were very close to two-tone. I reckon that bass in the pic is a real one, but I'm not sure that this seller has it. That decking looks familiar. John from Bravewood photographs his basses on such decking. Must go look.
6. Just emailed 'em for a quick visit. The bass in that pic looks the real deal: correct two-tone finish and you can clearly make out the tarnishing on the pots and bushels. Question is: do they really have that bass and, if so, is it knock-off??
7. Back in the '80s. Used to hit a couple of harmonics at the end of a song and 'bend' them by holding the body on my Status and pushing the neck. Did it at a gig one night and the strap broke, sendin the Status roght onto one of those old cast iron-foored mic stands, gouging the upper horn of the bass. Well fkn embarassed!
8. All PMs now replied. Two notes of interest. New pix of wear and tear attached.
9. Now sold. Fairly rare, this model has the slightly elongated and slim headstock. Non-original with Wilkinson keys, DiMarzio UltraJazz pups, mutes and a stack circuit taken from a USA stacker reissue. Also comes with ashtrays. Has seen a bit of use and has a few neck marks, one on the lower horn and some dings on the headstock and I'll get those pix taken soon. In the meantime, have a look at these. Any Qs, fire away. Sorry, guys. £400 shipped mainland UK. No case or gig-bag, though either could be factored in with an adjustment.
10. Now here's a blast from the recent past. Seymour Duncan Active EQ Jazz pups. These were made in the late '80s/early '90s and had three DIP switches on each pup. These allowed different voicings of the coils and here's the blurb from SD describing how they used to be:- 'Functions of switches on old-style "Active EQ" bass pickups We stopped making the switch pickups ("Active EQ") in the mid-'90s. We replaced them with the Pro-Active? series. The little rocker switches on the Active EQ pickups change the sound. Switch #1 shifts the coil resonance. On a Jazz Bass? neck pickup and a P Bass? pickup, the resonance moves downward from 22 KHz to 6.4 KHz. On a Jazz Bass bridge pickup, it move downwards from 17 KHz to 4.9 KHz. The effect is to give a more focused sound with a harder attack. Switch #2 gives a broad band bass boost of 4 dB for the Jazz Bass neck and P Bass pickups, and 5 dB for the Jazz Bass bridge. The switches can be a very effective tool for changing the tonal "character" of your instrument.' The pups are used in conjunction with 100k pots, a 100uf cap and a stereo jack socket to activate the battery and this harness will be supplied as well. This old '74 Jazz is getting refurbished and these SDs are now free to go to a good home. £65 shipped. Mid '70s style ESP JB bridge (in situ on the bass) - £22 shipped
11. Bass now withdrawn.
12. How long have you had them on the bass?
13. No takers? Possible trade in the offing but would prefer cash.
14.
Hey Lozz. After many years playing only with rounds (Rotosounds and LaBellas) my greatest discovery in recent years were the Status Half-Wound strings. I've been using them on P-Basses for a while now. They feel just like flats at the tip of your fingers and, sonically, somewhere in the middle, between rounds and flats. But it's a nice in the middle, not some over the fence, half baked in the middle, if you know what I mean. With the tone control slightly attenuated and playing a bit closer to the neck you can make them sound just like flats. I cut a little piece of acoustic foam so it fits perfectly under the strings, close to the bridge, and now that elusive Jamerson sound is right there. At the same time, with the tone control full on and with a plectrum, you still get that lovely P-Bass bite, but (in my opinion) in a much nicer way. You don't loose definition and attack, you just loose harshness. I highly recommend for you guys to give them a try. You can buy them directly from Status, they're no expensive and they always deliver mine the next day. They only make them in more regular gauges though (40-100 and 45-105). Still worth a try. They do feel stiffer than rounds, so maybe with heavier gauges it would be a bit too much for most? Ah... And I feel it's way easier to play with them than with rounds.
Couldn't agree more! I recently bought a Vintage bass from fellow Basschatter Zigmondo which cam strung with Hotwires. I swapped the neck out for a fretless Warmoth and this bass oozes tone! I have used rounds for years but have gotten used to flats again after buying a Jazz from Ishibashi which came with them on it but those Hotwires are the biz!
15. Sorry, fellas, no trades.
16. So many goodies on here right now so will have to float this fella. Classic Fireglo finish. 2000 model with slightly fuller neck profile. Good condition throughout and monster tone off the horseshoe! Coupla small dings on the neck and some light marks on the back which should polish out, though I'll give those another going over if she sells. No tail-lift, neck/rod issues and plenty of life left in the frets.Comes with silver RIC case. Seeking £1400, which is a very good price for one of these. More pix to follow.
