1. Can anyone tell me how many posts you need to make before you can do this? Someone told me you get "Edit profile information > Custom member title" in your controls at some point!!
 2.
i dont think anything needs to be changed, its great the way it is, simple and effective
+1 to that, definitely! simple, loads of great members and chat. Thanks guys!
 3. The only thing I am noticing with the 708II is that it seems to be degrading my signal, even in standby. It doesn't matter whether I am using a passive or active bass, if I put the zoom between my bass and my MB151 combo, it makes the signal muddy and a bit distorted.... Plug directly in and it is all fine. Is that normal? If so, I don't like it!!
 4. I'd love to go, but don't live in Bristol anymore and its midweek..... Bu88er...! PS. Rich, when you next gigging? Like to hook up sometime. I said something to that effect in the "SW Guitar Show" thread...
 5.
I would really recommend Zoom pedals. I have a 607II and a 708II - (purchased from Wooks on here) - and have found both to be excellent, the latter particularly.
I have to say, so far I'm really enjoying my 708II! Once you get used to it its simple to use and really easy to make/rename patches. I've even worked out how to pre-select patches when using live....
 6.
I'd take that deal and get used to using effects. Then you'll have a better idea of what you want to upgrade to, and you might be able to sell the zoom for £40, but if not, it's only £40.
So thats what I did!! As you said, its only £40, and I should get it back whether I move up market or ditch the idea altogether!! I used it at the weekend, worked out fairly quickly how to re-program the patches, though had issues with balancing the volume between bypass and effect volume level!! Whether I ever get to program and use all available patches, I have already proved that it'll be useful for no other reason than it'll replace my current tuner as it has a sodding great red LCD display which I can actually read while on stage!! Thanks for all your help guys!!
 7. I did two deps this weekend with a local (Exeter) heavy rock band, "Thin Purple Snake". 31 songs in the set of which I'd only played half before! Friday - "The Ferret and Radiator", Halloween Party in a Grotty pub in Dawlish. Grotty but really great atmosphere, good local support, and loads of drunken totty! Christ they played very very LOUD!!!!! Thank Fcuk I had my earplugs!! Saturday - Did a short set at the Wellington Music Day, as a charity freebie. We were sandwiched between a succession of acoustic performers, all of whom were given plenty of encouragement by the organisers ("come on everyone lets give them another round of applause.... didn't they do well...!"), while we were cut short by five minutes and the curtains were closed as we were still actually playing the last notes. The atmosphere in the green room when we came off was absolutely appalling, and no-one thanked us for turning out on such a foul night. Small minded politics I think, as the event was largely organised by the headline act.... Not only did not get paid to drive the 40 mile round trip, I also had to pay for two guests (friends down for the weekend) to see us being humiliated!! Absolutely not the bands' fault, and I am all in favour of supporting charity events, but it doesn't leave a good taste when this happens!!
Oh my god... I have something approching a phobia of needles...
Further to my, "not knowing how to spot other Basschatters" comment, I am also fairly new to the Exeter music scene. Rich, from your pic in your profile it wouldn't surprise me if you were the guy with the "follow the Bassplayer" teeshirt...? I would have tapped you on the shoulder and said hi, but short of tapping everyone on the shoulder who appeared to be a bassist and saying "hi, are you a basschat-er?" I couldn't have known!! We must try to catch up sometime! I formed and played with Souled Out in bristol for several years, and am currently trying (very!!) to get another 10 piece band together, called Soulfire (no, before you ask, not that methodist lot near Tiverton!!), a soul band with a bit of a Brian Setzer feel, I'm also doing a few deps... for "Thin Purple Snake" at the moment (just off to a rehearsal at Depot X in fact!).
 9. While I would love to be able to spend loads of money, I'm saving for my new Wal (or possibly GB Rumour now since playing EBS_Freak's at the weekend....!). This was initially triggered by the need to get a reasonable replacement Chorus pedal (EBS I hear you all shout!!), so money must stay in pocket, as I am generally not that into effects. I have however been offered a Zoom 708II for £40. It does appear to support looping as well as a bunch of other stuff, and while it isn't a £100+ pedal, it may just sow some seeds!! Any thoughts anyone?
 10. I do sincerely hope that I'm not being seen in the "whats good enough" camp here!! To my mind, being "professional" means two very different things:- a. It might mean that you have made a living out of playing/performing, or b. Nothing more than having an attitude of professionalism and pride about being able to be depended on when it comes to turning up on time and being committed to what you love to do! Always remember the seven "P's"... Proper Pre-Planning Prevents P*ss Poor Performance. No more and no less!! I did "A" for a bit, sure, but for Ch**st sake put me into the B group!! I would never advocate the "playing safe" route! I also paint, and I don't know many people who, like me, have been threatened to be "taken outside" at an art exhibition I recently exhibited at for doing and speaking my mind, and challenging others dull limitations!! I say bring on the 13th storey!!!!
Other stand my arse... from what I could see, there was one Fender bass in that entire room Ah well, the Lakkies are miles better anyway.
Hmmmm, yes. Tell me, what is it about Lakland though? I didn't get a chance to play one, but I heard a couple of guys in the bass bit and everyone I heard playing the 5'ers had the "B" flapping and farting like a nobodies business....? (It didn't however help with all other din in the background!!)
Yeah - they had a hard time. I felt sorry for the acoustic guys in the corner who were surrounded by Hugh's Fuzz Factory modified Squiers and Bare Knuckle pickups!
Yes, it did all get rather too much of a din from time to time (sorry from me when I had any part in this, but blame Bernie G for I didn't touch any amps!!). For such a successful event, it perhaps may be better to consider a bigger or multi room venue next time, so there might be a more effective split of sound areas, with consideration, but not just for the benefit of the acoustic guys....
 13.
If that's what's best for the song, then yes.. Maybe you don't quite get it after all??
I wouldn't for a minute consider myself among the virtuosi that help fill these forums, and certainly not among the greats cited herein, but I don't believe that consigns me to the same department as Macca (according to some of you!). I make somewhat of a joke of it, yes, but my signature says it all for me. A really good bass player with great timing and, yes, groove, can be completely invisible, and make the song sound brilliant. For the majority of us, mostly popular music is what keeps us in work, whether pro or down at the Ferret and Radiator! Turn up, do the job, consistently and reliably, play complimentary and appropriate basslines to our fellow musicians, and get asked back to do it again... I don't see that it makes much difference if thats you, me, macca or anyone else listed in this thread, so +100 to silverfoxnik!!
VERY disappointed in the Fender stand... one bass? Come on guys, not good enough by half.
I commented on the lack of Fender basses to the same guy who palmed me the MAAAASSIIVE teeshirt, and he told me they were all on their "other" stand..... I think he must have forgotten to tell me that the "other" stand was at "another" guitar show, cos I couldn't find it!!!!
 15. I was pro for a number of years back in the eighties. I actually managed to earn enough to get and pay a mortgage on the proceeds, but only after others provided guarantees.... Some stability, eh? I'm confident that the "driving for a living" as previously suggested (regular 4 day tour started in Mablethorpe, to Brighton, to Hunstanton then Leeds, Our manager was called Mr Yoyo!), didn't make me any better player, but it sure was a great lifestyle choice at the time, and has never looked out of place on my CV.....
