1. Tuning's not great, but nice tone.
2. Man, that's awesome, definitely adding this to my favorites! It even works for some more unusual or lesser known bands that I'm in to. Cheers for the link.
3. Speaking of DB players, Christian Mcbride: Joshua Redman - Blues on Sunday The whole rhythm section is smoking on this one!
4.
Something old school? Bill Evans Trio ...Scott LaFaro is probably my favorite db player of all time
I think that's actually Chuck Israels, but point taken . Some great vids here, love the Paul Jackson/Mike Clark one, shame about the audio quality. Also Richard Bona: Richard Bona - Bass Solo Richard Bona Groovin'
5. Hey man, that's awesome, definitely feelin' it!
6. If you watch the whole video, he does actually switch back to the regular method. Maybe it's just the need to be different?
7. Yeah that's awesome. I actually prefer this vid though: Maybe it's cos i'm a jazzer.... and i'm a sucker for footprints Also, usually i really like steve, but in these videos there's too much reverb on his bass for my tastes...
8.
Some nice looking basses there. Can you give us some idea of the prices?
+1, would be interested in what kind of prices these will go for. I'm guessing that the site is still under construction as some of the links don't seem to work for me?
9.
Looking forward to the guitarist telling me to turn the volume down a bit.
Man, I can't wait to experience that myself! Nice rig mate, looks suitably loud . What kind of music will you be using it for?
10.
Come on, dude. Steve Bailey's the man! And I meant playing indoors, onstage at night with sunglasses on.
Yeah, i love steve, i was trying to show just how important intonation is. Just ask a random woman on the street.
11.
Take your sunglasses off. Poor intonation is not cool. I had to learn that hard way.
12. If this was unlined, I might have been tempted.... Oh well, have a complementary BUMP from me .
13. While slapping, the majority of the muting will happen in your left hand. What I sometimes do is hook my thumb over the neck when slapping the higher strings to help mute the lowest string. I'm not familiar with the track you mentioned, but maybe this will help? I found this on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inhRXhZ7sXE
14. Final bump? I've PM'd the seller but haven't got a response...
15. Thanks, I was searching for "excelsior golden strad" and getting nothing . Still couldn't find much on the price, is £740 decent? It just sounds a bit much to me (for a laminate), but I'm not really sure as this will be my first double bass. Cheers.
16. Hi. I've been offered a double bass by someone on this forum (hope they don't mind me posting this! ). It's a "Boosey and Hawkes excelsior /golden strad circa 1959/60", blonde and he's asking for £740 (which includes a bow and rosin). Just wondering what people's opinions were on this bass? Also is this a good price? Cheers.
17.
Thinking of getting the SR300FM, anyone have one of these?
Yeah, that's the first and only bass I've purchased so far. As far as I can tell it's a decent bass, but then again I don't have any experience with anything better. The action was pretty bad when I got it, but after I fiddled around with the truss rod and bridge it plays great. The electronics are a bit noisy though, when you turn the treble/bass knobs it tends to crackle a bit, not sure if this is just mine or if it's true in general. I like it, but as I have said I don't really have much experience so it might not be that great by other people's standards.
18. Anyone know if this has sold or if it's still available?
19. ha ha, thats so cool! Good to see that marloweDK is still on youtube, no matter how much they try to ban him !
20. Has anyone had any experiences with Primavera double basses? I just found this and it seems like it would be better than the Stentor Student.... Cheers EDIT: Also, is the jump from the Stentor Student to the Conservatoire significant? I might be able to save up a bit more £ to afford it...
21. Cool, thanks. I think I'll go with the Stentor unless someone else can convince me otherwise... Has anyone had any experience with 'pjsmusicservices.co.uk'? They seem to have the cheapest price on the Student. Cheers.
22. Hi guys, I've been playing electric bass for a couple of years now, and I decided that I'd really like to make the jump into the world of the double bass. I have read a lot of talk about the cheap gear4music and thomann basses, and there seems to be a lot of argument over whether they are worth it. I think that my budget will allow me to spend a little more, and I was looking at this: http://www.pjsmusicservices.co.uk/prod5.as...amp;prod_id=279 It's a Stentor Student, and seems pretty good for the money. Am I right in thinking this will be worth the extra money over a cheap gear4music or thomann bass? Are there any other basses around this price range that I should consider? I will be playing jazz, and so will only need a 3/4. Does any one know the exact specs of the Stentor? I can't seem to find what the fingerboard is made from (it looks ebony, which is good right?). Cheers
