Anyone know of any good technical exercises?
Simon replied to JamieBenzies's topic in Theory and Technique
Check out the Harmonized Major Scale: http://www.thebassment.info/index.php?opti...=8&Itemid=9 This is one that is demonstrated by Jaco on that DVD. -
Check out Ed Poole: http://www.myspace.com/edpoole Some of its Jazz, but check out the playing and solo on his track Spin! Pure groove!

Plucking Hand Muting - Technique Advice needed
Simon replied to ritch12's topic in Theory and Technique
Hi Ritch, personally I use my left hand to mute ringing notes. It's hard to explain, but i just use my fingers (on the left hand) to muffle the string from vibrating before fretting the next note. I occasionally use my right hand for muting, but not very often. Like you said, I usually only bring my thumb as low as the E string - more as a thumb rest than a muting thing. -
Awesome find. Thanks!

Practicing extended chords/arpeggios
Simon replied to velvetkevorkian's topic in Theory and Technique
Don't know if any of you guys will find this of use but thought I'd post it just in case. This exercise is actually inspired by and exercise Jaco Pastorius used to do, and he demonstrated something like it on that DVD of his. It's an excellent exercise for knowledge and dexterity. It's called "Harmonized Major Scale Exercise" and is under the "scales, modes and arpeggios" heading.
I've got over 80 hand written ones. There all seemingly random too, due to the fact that I do them for sessions. And there all sketchy, but there's a few good ones.
Ok then mate. Well if you manage to get any of them in to Sibelius, send 'em along! -
Yeh I'd be cool putting a Chaka Khan tune I've just got through transcribing called 'Fate'. Bass provided by Anthony Jackson... i'll proof-read it later on and send it to you if you're interested mate.
Send away mate! The more the better it is as a resource! -
Bookmarked! Looks like it's going to be a good resource. I'd be happy to supply my transcriptions. I do them by hand at the moment, so I could either redo them in Sibelius or scan them in. Would that be acceptable? See here. It's rough, and unfinished, but you get the idea.
Hi Tim, sure. If you can Sibelius them it would be perfect! What kind of artists/tracks have you done? -
That's a very swish homepage. Good luck with it!
Thanks mate! Took a while
LMAO. I right clicked on your link to open it up in another tab while I was reading your post. When I got to this bit I just instinctively closed the window down without looking at it. I since changed my mind had a quick peek - looks like its going to be a great site. Bookmarked accordingly.
You don't like Jamiroquai then? The old stuff is pure groove dude! I will be adding a lot of different stuff soon, hopefully something will appeal to you -

Thanks guys! I've just realised there are some problems when viewing in IE7, so sorry if you use IE (are people still using that?!?!? LOL). OldGit, I only registered the domain yesterday, so I'll give the search thing a little time to hit in. My site's are usually pretty good on the Google rankings Hope you enjoy the site! -
Hi Everyone. First off, I hope this doesn't break any rules and is in the right place! Spamming the board is not my intention, just thought people might find my new project of interest. Please remove my post if it's a problem. I have just launched a new website called The Bassment. The intention of this website is to make available my transcriptions I have created over the past 8 years or so, and my work in the future. Many transcriptions are also contributed by other bass players around the world. If you think this would be of interest to you please pop by and take a look. Maybe one for the bookmarks? So please drop by. I welcome any feedback on the project, recommendations, criticism etc. Thanks for reading! The URL is: www.thebassment.info Cheers, Simon
FWIW I fitted an active EMG replacement set to a Jazz I had in the '90s and managed to squeeze the battery into the control cavity with no routing. I remember it well because for some reason I couldn't find a screwdriver that day so I used the tip of the blade on a new penknife to put the control plate back on, and of course the knife snapped shut on my index finger and I needed stitches.
Sorry, missed this question. As you can see from the backshot of the bass there is no routing for the battery. It was contained underneath the control plate.
Hi mate, I can't be bothered with offers and things, I don't mean to be rude. What's your cash price for this? I'd be looking at somewhere around £600 to £700 with the play wear and the changed pickups. Obviously depends on the condition and whether there's a case etc. Is this near your figure?
Hi mate, £700 would be my bare minimum for this bass. It comes with a moulded hard case.
