Saw them at Sonisphere in 2014, I was waiting for The Winery Dogs, and Chas and Dave were playing before them. Great fun and really got the crowd going, and yes, great Bass lines.

The crowd footage from that gig is the stuff of legend!

  2. If that's the concert I'm thinking of it was from the 'Yes Symphonic' tour. The orchestra didn't play on Roundabout so instead they came out front to 'boogie'.
It's quite... awkward. The rest of the concert, however, is magnificent!

  3. I don't really buy into this theory... How does the string know how far away it is from the neck? I mean, a string with lower action surely 'moves' as much as one set up a bit lower?
Also with adjustable pickups you should be able to keep the optimun height regardless of action.
Happy to be proved wrong of course but it's never really made sense to me.

  4. Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I had the good fortune to see Chas and Dave last ight and Dave's bass playing had me dumbstruck all night. He's seriously good. I mean, I always had a lot of time for his playing but seeing him do it live was quite something. Nicely showy too, lots of harmonics and drop D switching going on.
One of the tightest live acts I've ever seen - absolute demons the pair of 'em. Good drummer too

A nice unexpected bonus was seeing Jackie Lynton supporting.

  5. I used one for a while but could only ever use it on low-gain settings as I found it lost some low end as the gain was cranked. Sold it when I picked up a Bass Soul Food as it had a blend control.
Still, the Glove's drive tone was lovely and would be perfect in a loop.

  6. I'm happy with Rotosound Roto Bass. I played the SS Swing Bass set for years but after a dalliance I realised I preferred the feel of nickel version. Roto bass are just unsilked nickel Swing Bass, but a lot cheaper.
I didn't notice any major differences tonally if I'm honest.

It sounds brilliant. Ray spacing and neck, with Precision sound.

While I enjoyed the EMGs I had in it (and the abuse for installing them) the Aguilar 60s pickup is lovely.

Unexpected benefit- with the EMGs it weighed 9.2lb. Those are very heavy pickups.

    Now it's only 8.4lb !!

Now that I could get on with! Well done. I'd love to hear it!

  8. I could never get on with the modern Thunderbirds for that reason. The old-style Thunderbirds have brighter pickups so popping in some Thunderbuckers is an option. Bit pricey though!
I'm really looking forward to getting my hands one the new Epiphone Thunderbird - if they've nailed the pickups it will be a monster.
