  1. I've only ever had bad experiences at the Gallery - too numerous to list here, and enough to have left me happy to never visit there again - but I must say it is extremely pleasing to see them reaching out to the community in this way, and is a refreshingly friendly manner. A personable approach goes a long way.

Welcome Charlie, and thank you for the introduction. I'll be sure to pop in next time I'm in the area!

Bob Dylan co-wrote Waiting for the Morning Light with Kiss bassist Gene Simmons (on Simmon's 2nd solo album). Dylan also had Mick Jones from the Clash in his touring band at one point.

Talking of Kiss, Lou Reed co-wrote A World Without Heroes on the infamous Elder album, and Bryan Adams contributed to Creatures Of The Night.

One day, while trying out a bass, I did furtively play the riff from Come As You Are to see if any of the staff would turn on me, but I think I got away with it...

They probably assumed it was Eighties and gave you the benefit of the doubt.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest a Who song. Yep, with John Entwistle on bass and everything:

Admittedly this is dredging right down to one of the few good tracks off probably their weakest album, but even though the bass tone is completely over the top, the playing is surprisingly restrained, especially by The Ox's standards.

For the first couple of minutes anyway 😂

It might fit but unless anyone been confirm 100% I would email Gf at our r first. I've heard the old Epis, new Classic/Vintage Pro Epis and Gibsons are all slightly different in shape and length and not all hard cases fit all models.

It's worth getting an official Epiphone one. My Classic Pro fits the older rectangular shaped one like this:

    The newer ones are tapered:

That's the one I have. It fits, but there's little space at the headstock.

My band currently wants to do Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick. They're probably just taking the p*ss out of me. Let's just say I'm getting there!

Whenever I play Rhythm Stick I use a pick in a crude Bobby Vega style. I think it works very well. I do usually play fingerstyle but I just can't pull off that tight burpy staccato style.

It’s the speed of those major scales though! My fingers just won’t do it. I’ve only ever tried it for fun though. In the unlikely event that any band I was in out it in their set list I suppose I would persevere a bit more! :D

It is a fiend, that bit! I used to play it in my old band from time to time and could just pull it off, but I played it the other day and it's gone 🤣

If ever you do need to play it, something I did was drop the 2nd and 6th note on each scale run, it made it far less hectic and still got the gist across. When you're playing that comfortably you can slot in the missing notes!

  8. I finally had the chance to plug it in briefly tonight and... Wow! Fantastic tone. Definitely far brighter and growlier than the current Gibson Thunderbird pickup - in fact it sounds just like an old classic Thunderbird. For those going after that Martin Turner tone, the neck pickup nails it.

To my ears, the tone with both pickups blended is slightly tighter that the classics but that's to be expected as the bridge pickup is closer to the bridge that it used to be. The neck pickup though, it just roars. Filthy beast!

I think my initial impressions were a bit harsh - probably because it's a brand new, shiny thing that has never been played, I rarely buy brand new and I'm use to things being a bit more worn in. I've just spent a very pleasurable half hour finding my way around it. Amazingly, no neck dive either! It does hang in a slightly odd position compared to what I'm used to, but again, that's just the nature of Thunderbirds.

I'm not 100% if it's staying yet, but it's rapidly growing on me.
