Bands that make me question why I ever thought I could write music No. 537548684748t57475 (not really)
Lowen, a London band fronted by the daughter of Iranian refugees, who describe themselves as 'crushing progressive doom steeped in the history of the ancient middle-east and the empty vistas of space'. My description - the most gloriously apocalyptic, emotive, powerful, ethereal & downright beautiful music I have heard in a very long time.
Blimey, that was incredible! Thank you for sharing.

I dig it. Bass is very thick and present through speakers, but it's a bit of a roots-only bassline.
I used to love Deftones when I was at school, until I heard "Back To School" ironically enough 😆
I've revisited them from time to time over the years. I still consider Chi to be probably THE bass player of any genre though. He was the instrument.

As an Alice In Chains fan and Spector player Ive been trying to get the Mike Starr tone and just not quite matching the grit. Then I see this video. Could this be right? Is it double tracked with an acoustic? Was this a stroke of genius or something used before?
I've heard the story of it being double-tracked with an acoustic bass for years, I'd never have guessed that by just hearing the song but I have always thought the bass on that song sounds different to the rest of the album.
Rain When I Die and Rooster, for example, both sound like a regular Spector tone to me.

I've owned a couple of these, although they were the standard red version without the Byrds inlay.
It's sacrilege I know but I always preferred the sound with rounds - that's a very growly pickup, particularly being quite near the bridge.
They're wonderful basses. Enjoy!

Huh, just you wait until the knob I have ordered arrives - Joe Dart will have nothing on me...
This bass simply demands a crank handle.

Those RW necks are maple cap, which in my experience gives a very distinctive top-end aggression to the tone. Fender used maple cap necks on the UK Slab basses in the 60s, if you weren't already aware!
That's one killer bass you have there, give me a shout if you feel like moving it on 😆
