A lot of criticism for this Ricky for being the same size as a full scale bass but on reflection, my Guild Starfire 1 is also as long as my big boy Precision and quite a bit wider. However, it is one of the lightest basses I own, so the bulk is less of a problem. In some ways having to use full-scale strings is actually a plus: greater choice and no short scale premium. Unfortunately, the Ricky doesn’t seem to have that as a redeeming feature.
That's a bit different as the Guild was designed to be that size from the off, rather than simply being shoehorned into an existing long-scale design, as we're seeing with this new Rickenbacker.
I've owned several Starfires and they're glorious things, and feel totally right. This Rickenbacker I would define as a "grotesque disaster'.

Plus once you've replaced the E and A with something more suited for playing bass, the vibrato mechanism goes from extremely subtle to almost inoperative.
I've had no problems with the vibrato on either of my Squier VIs, nor has the string spacing ever bothered me, but that's just personal preference.

End of headstock looks too big to me
I agree, the headstock doesn't look right. It could just be the camera angle of course.

i was checking out the squires ...a couple or red flags being the potential intonation issues on the low e and some kind of acceptance that the neck pocket was a little open to neck swivel on the secondhand one i checked out ( maybe some would consider this a positive feature?) ...so i ended up paying about twice as much for a vinterra ...hard to point to any one particular thing other than to say the vintera just felt and played and sounded better ...why? i have no idea ...maybe im just imagining it since i didn't have both side by side to compare at the same time but it does seem to ooze quality...
You've done the right thing - tried both and gone with the one that felt better. Congratulations, it's a beauty!

personally I think it's better used as a drive or just some extra colour you can turn on doing key moments tho definitely not an always on for me, works great honestly but prefer just running a sansamp and keeping it simple
What's your set up - Rusty Box into a Sansamp or straight into an amp? Which Sansamp do you use?
