11.
Wow, what a transformation, dont know why, but I'm thinking John "the Ox" Entwhistle just looking at it
Well i was thinking of having a flamed maple top on it if the body wood was not that good, but it looks so good it dosnt need it.
  12. here is a close up of the boody wood and pickups you can clearly see the 2 shades of of the Mahogany and the thin strips between them.
  13.
I reckon you should have some mahogany knobs made for the u-retro
I have always wanted a mahogany Knob
  14. Thanks guy, I just wired the neck pickup to the jack, to see what she sounds like, and its good, so it going to be even better with the u-retro in there. The Pickups are Kent armstrong, in a black wood housing, i will get some close up .
  15. Well some of you might recall me getting this about a year a go, it was in quite a poor state when i got it , the paint had reacted with the foam in the case and the neck was not straight, the Truss rod was all gummed up and the frets were in a bad way. but after a lot of work from Paul_C the bass is transformed, The body is 6 pice mahogany, made out of 3 different woods, with thru neck, the head stock has a lovely bit of wood facing on it, no idea what this is, and there is a thin layer of veneer between this and the headstock. Paul striped down the paint, Replaced the rosewood fret-board with ebony & replaced the knackerd trussrod & a new Brass Nut. Still to do is replace the gold machine heads for black, fit a u-retro preamp, and apply a load more wax. I am still totally amazed by how this bass has turned out , it is stunning. What we cant work out is why such a nice bit of wood got painted red in the first place. Thanks again Paul. :)
  16.
I have played Statii for many years now. I love the balance, the curves, the shape and the fact that it needs tuning every other month.
I don't think i tune my king bass that often! I have never found the classic Fender/MM shape comfortable l for me. Or the the Status S2 shape, i had a series 3000 and the top horn dug in to my chest. Rickys dont do much for me either, and I had a Fender Katana bass, sort of Vee shaped, that was to long, with it point headstock and body, kept knocking it into things, and could not be played siting. On the up side , i find my Thumb very comfortable, and yes that curved back fits my tummy nicely, ( it also a 1990 thumb so no chunky neck or neck dive, why did they change it! ) My Kingbass fits well, and the Asbory is so small you just don't notice it. My Explorer is very comfortable, the body shape has good balance siting down and standing up . You can even rest you right arm along the back wing Entwistle style.
  17. I have a Zoot S4 Pro, it a lovely bass and well built looks fantastic, sound good & one of the skinnyest necks i have ever played. But saying that my Drummer donst like it, why, who knows!!! P.S. I have no connection or endorsement with Zoot Basses, but i did buy the Bass of Wez who is currently endorsed by iceni .

  20. Hi all, we are putting together a page on statii.com for all the kingbass prototypes, prototypes #1,#2,#4,#5 and a blackbeauty are owned by members on Statii, so just wondering if anyone out there knows the whereabouts of kingbass #3, if anyone out there owns it let me know so we can get some photos for the KB proto page. Thanks Trevor.
HOWEVER, if a fellow Londoner with a big enough vehicle feels like calling by my place and sharing the petrol costs (hint...hint ), the list could consist of:
Oxblood, i can give you a lift form Ruislip Central line, if you want, but my car is totally impractical for anything more than a bass or 2!!! Hi Dave, i should be able to either day. hope to see you there. Trev
  24. yeh, anther Lefty that goes to the Right, as mentioned before, i started in the early 80, i didnt recall the option of playing left-handed at all, possibly the shop i got my first bass from didn't have any left handed basses or what, i cant remember. I don't regret palying to the right as im sure i would have missed out on some of the fine basses i have owned over the years.
  25. i had a Katana back then , it was fun and very pointy! I remember the neck was small and possibly short scale. Im sure it was very light and the body wood was a bit soft, but sadly i lent it out to someone ive not seen for a long time.
