+1 I just got a Metro this weekend - its hard to find enough phenomenal adjectives to describe it! Seriously though, i dont know if its just naieve but mine is literally the best bass (sound, feel, build) wise Ive ever touched; blows my Fender Mexico deluxe outta the water. I really cant work out why the guy sold it to me... oh wait... Its cus he had another Sadowsky! I reckon i should be paid to represent and sell them - I'd do it for free!
[cringes]. Ah well. Hope you're enjoying it.

Quick progress report on this. I haven't done anything to the neck or the strings in almost a year, apart from wonder vaguely about trying flats on it. But the older the rounds on it get, the better it seems to sound. I've tweaked the set up just a tiny bit with the 45-105s and now it's perfect. Playing Jazz necks now feels almost weird - like picking up a toy...
I'm interested. Any better photos, Brother? Sides and back too? Does it have side dots and are they "on the fret"? What year? Is the bridge adjustable for string spacing? Why was the French geezer "mysterious"? How much DID you pay for it? PM me if you wish. Cheers, Nigel
I will try and take some more pics, but as you can tell am a crap snapper. There are no dints or scratches on it at all. It has side dots between the fret positions. It's not a defret - the board is epoxied phenolic, as distinct from the 'phenowood' that Zon use for the regular fretted ones, and is absolutely pristine. When I first bought it I emailed Zon with the s/n asking for a bit of history and received...no reply whatsoever. The bridge is not adjustable for spacing. The French geezer was actually a very, very nice man who happened to prefer his Alembic, the fool. I think I paid £1400 for it.... Phew
hey!! Lovely looking bass mate! im pretty tempted my self actually! one quick thing though........i think it will be a morado fingerboard on this model, not Brazilian rosewood that wood is usually reserved for the NYC basses good luck with the sale!
Is this listing jinxed or what? I based that on something another (seemingly well informed) Basschatter said about them being 'the same thing'... Another ninja-edit. -

I'm selling this alongside my Sadowsky 5 to raise cash for an engagement ring. I bought it two and a half years ago from a slightly mysterious Frenchman in north London. I seem to remember paying a stack of money for it because I was blown away by it. But I have to face up to the fact that, although I am genuinely quite emotionally attached to this bass, I'm not one of life's better fretless players... Bolt-on graphite neck on what I think is a swamp ash body. While the bass looks black most of the time, the finish is a kind of very dark stain so that you can see the grain underneath. I doubt this has come out well in the photos, but looks fantastic. It is pretty much mint, no dints and no issues at all. Twin Barts with Zon's custom pre option - vol, pan, stacked treble and bass, and a semi-parametric mid with a three-position frequency selecter. The bridge is a Wilkinson. Neck profile is very slim and the bass itself is very light. Phenolic board with very hard wearing finish. It has stacks of mwah and, probably because of the board, is one of those fretlesses that you really can slap. I've used DR rounds on it since having it and there is not a scratch on the board. Like all Zons, it is phenomenally playable. The action is without doubt the lowest I've ever played. Set up and full service (inc electronics) by Charlie Chandler two months ago. It is tricky to price this. I've bought (and sold) a really good similar fretted Sonus for £1200 very recently. Despite their scarcity, given the economic circumstances am going to say a firm £1000 for this. No trades please. I'm in Surrey and don't drive, but very happy to meet up in central London. Edit: Bass now sold. Thanks.

Much as I hate to split up my pair of Sadowskys, one has to go and I can't help but be more of a four string guy. I bought this about 18 months ago from a bass tutor in Surrey. He'd just brought it back from New York where he'd bought it new from Sadowsky. Tonally and playability wise it's the best 5 I've touched. The spacing is spot on (for me at least) and the tone is very punchy and even across the board. Body wood is alder with a Morado board. Condition wise it has a small dint in the back of the headstock, but is otherwise mint, not even any buckle rash. Ungigged - just used for noodling around. Comes with its original Sadowsky semi-hard case. I don't drive, but can meet up in central London. Price is a pretty firm £1200. Not really interested in trades as need cash for engagement ring... Quick edit: this is VTC equipped and has the usual pull pot for passive bail-outs.
i keep checking the gallery's website for updates on their sadowsky stock but it never seems to change! (not like i need another one!)
The UV70 on the Gallery website is the one I bought there about three years ago. It's also listed for about £300 more than it was up for then...
plus 1 come - i know we are not allowed to comment on prices - but really!
Really what? He is at liberty to sell it for whatever he thinks the market will bear. If he's wrong, or has drastically misjudged the price, then it won't sell. -
Musicman Stingray - Such a love/hate relationship
Lots of bottom, lots of top, but nothing in the middle, no "oomph". I just couldn't EQ it so it sounded good in a band mix, and it just wouldn't cut through distorted guitars. It's true that the older, pre-EB ones don't seem to have this issue though - they have a good dose of P-like "bark", while maintaining that typical Stingray sizzle, and they seem to have better string-to-string balance too.
Very true on all counts. I had two in the nineties - a 2 bander fretted four and a fretless 5. Didn't really get on with either and they seemed to disappear in the mix unless the treble was whacked right up so that it 'clanked'. My other problem with them for solo noodling is that I could never get good harmonics out of them. On the plus side, they are very well put together and, at least in the past, used some really excellent figured woods for the necks and boards. The pre-EB ones sound a lot better to my ears, with more mids and character. Perhaps that's just wood aging though. -
I never really got on with them. They tend to sound all over the place and then two weeks later, they're dead...

Sold: ZON LEGACY ELITE 4 - NEW PICS!

I learned to play as a nipper by figuring out the bass lines on all the Police albums, especially Zenyatta and Regatta de Blanc. (Crap album titles, but anyway...) They are still fun to play, either because the line is simple enough that you can ornament it with harmonics and little fills (eg Deathwish), or as sixteenths (Canary in a Coalmine, Man in a Suitcase), or as others have pointed out, because the syncopation is really good. Never saw them live, but some of the video of them seems impressively energetic. Nice to see a band playing relatively sophisticated material with real energy. Summer has been a bit off-piste, ut they just wouldn't have worked as a three piece without his inventiveness.
