  1. More elderly and not entirely in the 21st century methinks....
  2. Thank you for looking that up. Interesting....
  3. Hello all. I received another email from Interparcel this morning basically just telling me to stump up. I have reiterated that I booked in good faith, not knowing that the seller would send a 54 x 44 x 42cm cab in a 68 x 62 x 62cm box. I did tell the seller on the phone that I had made an additional ( 56 x 50 x 46) couple of cm allowance for box size. I also made them aware that I've been a customer for at least 14 years and have spent a small fortune with them and UPS as my preferred team. I have asked what a parcel of the actual size shipped would have cost. They aren't contesting the weight that I added a Kg allowance to. My issue is the size of the surcharge and their inflexibility. The seller didn't want any responsibility for arranging a courier and refused to accept liability for shipping. Not ideal I know but the price was right. I can't see any comeback with the seller. I'm awaiting a reply from Interparcel. They offer a discount down to £116 if I pay within 5 days. I get paid tomorrow. If they don't sway their view I'll have to pay. That'll be £140 for shipping one cab...... If this post raises awareness amongst the community then it's useful methinks. Check the size if someone else packs. It means you can't book until the packing is done but you could save yourself a surcharge. Peter
  4. Yes that I can understand Ped (Long time no see, hope that all is well with you). Sadly my desperation for a 2nd Accugroove got the better of me...
  5. I had an email from Interparcel today. I recently bought a cab from a chap in Norfolk. It's one I've been looking for and I waited until the price fell to a reasonable level. I hasten to add that it wasn't anyone on here, not that that is the issue. The Accugroove Tri112L is a cab I already own so the dimensions and weight are a known to me. The seller wasn't prepared to organise the courier & insurance or take liability for shipping so when we agreed the deal in principle I went to my usual company, Interparcel to check the price to ship. It was very reasonable at about £25 fully insured with UPS so I went ahead. For the size I added a few cm on each dimension to allow for packaging. The seller asked me for a further contribution towards packaging materials and I sent him a tenner. When the cab arrived safely from UPS, who I usually rate highly, I saw that the box was pretty huge. The seller had taken a standard removals box and padded it out with all sorts of stuff that he had to hand. This was considerably bigger that I had quoted for but the delivery guy said nothing. The email I received today basically said that I owe UPS £131.60 as my parcel was oversize! I've said that I'd be happy to pay an amount because it was significantly larger that expected (but still handleable imo) but over 5 times the price seems exorbitant! I'm awaiting a reply. I think that the UPS staff at point of collection should have raised the issue and refused to ship. That would have allowed for some negotiation or cutting down of package sizing. I'm wondering if anyone has been here before? Peter
  6. Worth noting for sale purposes is that the MkII was a 35" scale but the Mk1 is 34".
  7. Yes I agree. My 2nd bass, many years ago was a more orange coloured one with the same cutaway. Awesome!
  8. Excellent, I struggled to find any reference. Seems like the bargain of the century to me..
  9. This is stunning. I can see why you'd be sad to let it go. Now using only 4 strings in my somewhat limited manner and not having a 4 string ACG makes me wish for a surprise monetary gift from a long lost relative - sigh.
  10. I see a previous post relating to damage with tape covering it up?? I cant see any damage on my phone photos. Can the seller please clarify? Peter
  11. Compact, very sturdy, transparent and responsive. In very good condition with the original boxed cable and packaging. Will post to UK. A one hand 18Kg lift. 4 x 5" PJB Piranha drivers. 42 x 36 x 46 cm. Comes with a slip cover. Selling because I managed to acquire a matching Accugroove Tri112L Can be checked out at seller's location. Good coffee Peter
  12. 3 bass cab cables. Made by Dave (OBBM) who markets as 'Rock-Wire'. All in excellent condition and barely used. From the top £8, £9 & £7 delivered to the UK. 2 x 1 metre and 1 x 0.5 metre.
  13. I sold Shaun my Uber spec ACG Finn 5. Payment was very prompt, great communication, very accommodating and a lovely man. Use with absolute confidence. Thank you Shaun. Peter
  14. I was about to ask you how the Finn was Shaun but I see that it's beaten me to it. Magnificent is so very apt. Enjoy. A pleasure.

    Phil J

I'm starting this thread for Phil who I met today. I believe that selling me his 88 Thumb NT was the start of his bass selling BC career. Lovely guy, very genuine. The bass? Well Warwick Thumbs of this vintage aren't manufactured. They are grown from a single crystal in a dark cave, nurtured by wee dwarves who finish them using a tiny adze. It is amazing. Heavy as iron (not steel, but wrought iron), growls like a complete bastard, has a neck as long as the Millau Viaduct and a Wenge fretboard as black as a burnt bone in the above mentioned dark cave, deep in the sea, on the night of a lunar eclipse. Totally and tonally awesome. Thank you Phil, a pleasure. The bass is even nicer than the photos. Note to self, it's hard to photograph a wax finished bass using a flash. Peter
  16. Yes I should have been clearer and used the correct terms. For my Neutrik please read Speakon.
  17. Thanks. I chatted with Dave on this. My Jacks are Neutrik ones but he reckons that much above 100 watts means that Neutrik are better at transmitting the power. So I'm saving, and my old cables will be up for sale soon
  18. I have let all my good, OBBM Neutrik to Neutrik speaker cables go with amps and cabs I have sold a while back. I'm left with 2 or 3 heavy duty OBBM 'Rock-Wire' Neutric to jack cables and a skinny generic double Neutrik lead. I'm thinking that now I've got a rig together again I need to invest in a pair of decent double Neutrik ended cables from Dave and put the others up for sale. But, aren't the ones with the jack on one end just as good? Is there any real advantage to Neutrik connectors over a simple jack on the cab end, given that movement isn't an issue? Peter
  19. That's a bargain price for a US G&L
  20. Shaun (skb558) pointed out that the bass doesn't seem to have a forearm contour. Indeed it does although it's not obvious from the phots. Here's some bubinga/wenge sandwich with a little maple butter:
  21. Needless to say, a trade with a high spec 4 string ACG would be seriously considered.
  22. An update with reference the weight of this bass. It is 11.4lbs. I've been away from the market for a while. Is it just me or has the price of 2nd hand basses recovered significantly in the past two years or so. Looking about I feel that I may have underpriced this top spec craftsman hand built bass. Peter
  23. I'm far from certain that I'm doing the right thing here. I had a couple of years off from even looking at a bass, due to band driven stress from all the mucking about with no gigs in sight. Thankfully my bass mojo returned and I'm starting to play with a bunch of like minded old fellas. I'm only playing 4 string basses. I think that's where I'm comfortable and it fills my needs. My best bass by some degree has 5 strings hence my post here. This bass is as it was purchased except for a filter pre amp one Mk up again (it was released as my bass came to fruition). It comes with a Hiscox case too. It has a flat radius board, 18mm spacing and plays like a dream. Complex tones are available with the filter pre and 20 coils of pickup on hand. The bass even has a passive switch and a passive tone (batteries are required to power the pickups). 34" scale with a 7 piece neck that is ultra stable. I modelled the woods from my Warwick Thumb and it has that growl which is great. This bass has presence in spades... It's no lightweight. It was never intended to be but I'm skinny and I find it sits well on a strap and balances perfectly. If it doesn't sell I'm going to be working on my B string use... Original photos from Alan's site until I get some done in the next few days. It's not changed.. Peter Top Wood: Bubinga/Maple/Wenge Body Wood: Wenge Accent Veneer: Maple Body Finish: Oil/Wax Neck Wood: 7 piece Bubinga/Wenge Fingerboard: Wenge Scale: 34″ Head Plate: Bubinga/Maple, Back Plate: Bubinga/Maple and Heel: Bubinga/Maple Neck Finish: Oil/Wax Pickups: ACG MC5 Multi-Coils Hardware details: ACG/Hipshot bridge, Gotoh GB350 Resolite tuners, Dunlop Dual Design Straplocks and DR Dragon Skin strings Pre-amp: ACG EQ04 5K dual filter
  24. It took only a few minutes to put the amp in the case this morning. A £2.36 length of foam insulation from B&Q, cut into lengths and halved means that the amp is firmly sat on a cushioned base of 6 'half segments' with the front screws only holding it in place and not taking the considerable weight. I'm happier anyway
  25. Thank you all. I will check out the feet on the bottom versus the desirability of rear support when I cast my own engineering eye over it. I don't even have the case yet. I was wanting to know if I need to get any other bits in to do the job properly hence my seeking advice. I'm not an engineering numpty. Engineering honours degree followed by a Post Grad Diploma in Nuclear Technology and proceeded by C&G Mechanic & Technician and a B-Tec Diploma..... Nowadays I just tinker with motorbikes Peter
