1. I bought Tredders Tascam bass trainer. Everything perfect it was sent immediately, well packaged and great communication from start to finish! Top guy to deal with!
2.
It's been a while since I was under 18, so excuse my ignorance, but... why would an establishment chuck someone out just for being under 18? As long as they don't attempt to purchase alcohol, surely they're not breaking any laws? When I was younger, I had friends under 18 who worked in bars, just collecting and washing glasses; obviously they couldn't serve alcohol, but nothing precluded them from being there. Or have things changed in recent years? (Sorry it's a bit off-topic.)
It depends on the venue, type of licence granted and the local licence board who make up their own local rules and regulations on top of the national ones so it varies depending on area and the use of the venue. Our pub licence in Scotland was strictly over 18s at all times and my mates pub in London was the same. Generally here if a pub doesn't serve sit down meals or have a separate family area it will be given an over 18 licence.
3.
Stop being a puss, and just do it ?
LOL i am doing it thats why i asked I was meant to be playing my first gig in December at a mates 40th but we had to cancel it due to a licensing problem then again the next week due to the weather. The band was only formed for that one off gig but one of the guys reckons after putting in the time and effort we have to play a gig that gig is in 2 weeks time at another mates birthday although at least this time we're playing 4 tracks while the main band takes a break. Now it's getting close and suddenly i'm bricking it again!
Hardly sympathetic, that, however, that is precisely what you must do. It's not exactly like giving birth is it. It's man-pride that stops blokes getting on the stage, and once they realise they can be up there without looking like/playing like a twat, it's man-pride that keeps them going up there.
Ha ha i'm a girl so i'm allowed to have no man pride at all so i'm still terrified of doing it
4. Well done! The suspense was killing us! Any good tips for the people like me who've still to play our first gig?
5. Nice one! Here's hoping Jamie sticks with it as well! I wish somebody had started me playing at that age I remember having guitar lessons at primary school but hated and it quit after a month due to the teacher deciding teaching us stuff like nursery rhymes and hymns was a great idea yeah maybe but when you're 11 and trying to be cool being made to stand up in front of the school and play twinkle twinkle little star doesn't really cut it. The class started of with 12 of us by the next month it had gone down to 3 which should have told them something We're going to try and keep it fun for him and try to teach him some of the stuff he listens to so he can play along with it so hopefully that will keep him interested. His dad's mate has taught a few kids in the past so he's willing to give him some lessons to start off with.
6. I love Paypals attitude of protecting the buyer stuff the seller! I got scammed a couple of years ago along with 45 other people by one buyer. The guy bought stuff left positive feedback when he got it so we all left positive feedback for him. 3 months later i got an email from Paypal telling me they were witholding my funds and i had to find proof of postage for the item as the owner of the credit card had not authorised the transaction. I always kept the reciept for sending stuff till the 45 days for Paypal claims are past just incase but at the time i was selling quite a bit so had ditched older receipts so Paypal refunded the cash to the card holder. The fact that the guy had left positive feedback for recieving the item was not proof that i had sent it. What i don't understand is if it was a stolen credit card what difference did it make if i had proof that i'd sent the item if it had been sent to somebody who didn't have permission to use the card. Another seller who had been conned by the same buyer got in touch with everybody who had sold stuff to this guy and they had all had the same problem although some of them had the receipt and got to keep their cash. We had all sent stuff to the same address a search on the net found that the card holder stayed at that address but neither Paypal,Ebay or the Police would do anything to help. I wasn't too bad i lost £20 but others had lost upto £160 so much for Paypal being a safe way to take payments online. If you do sell on Ebay keep hold of the postage receipt even after the 45 day Paypal claim deadline as apparently it doesn't matter if you sent it to a thief with a dodgy card as long as you prove you sent it i'm still trying to make sense of that!
7. Great pic i love his look of intense concentration! The Johnston bass looks cool too i was scared to go for names i didn't know without a recommendation from someone who had played one. Did your son keep playing? We're kind of worried that in Jamies case it will probably be a fad and end up being left after a month as he has the attention span of a goldfish (his dads words not mine )but we're really hoping he proves us wrong. Hopefully the fact that his dad has just started learning as well will keep him interested.
8. Since Paypal started holding the cash for 21 days or until feedback is left i've heard of a few people getting similar emails. Even after feedback was left for my sale it took 5 days for Paypal to release my cash. I wouldn't be too keen to leave feedback before i got the bass. . You could try sending the other buyer a message and see if their stuff ever turned up!
9. Thanks Tom and Ray it looks like we're now sorted he's about to become the owner of a black bronco from a fellow basschatter as soon as we sort out the postage from Manchester! Cheers for all the help everybody hopefully he sticks with playing i wish i'd been able to start at that age LOL the next problem will come if he learns faster than his dad
10. Cheers for the replies Yep i think the black Squier is probably the best one to go for. Just a shame there's only red ones coming up 2nd hand at the moment. I guess colour is still important to me as well i couldn't really see myself owning a bright red bass now but as a kid i would have loved it! I love how little kids really want to be just like their dad then by 15 they'll do anything to not be like him! That mini strat bass looks brilliant! Unfortunately i'm a true girlie when it comes to stuff like this and don't know one end of a drill from the other and my mate doesnt seem to be much better i've seen his half finished DIY so he's probably way safer buying one or his son will be 25 by the time it's finished!
11. I wish i had the cash These are great basses my mate just bought one of these for his first bass after playing his one if i had the cash i'd be all over this. Looks even better with the black pick guard! Good luck with the sale
12. Typical i sent them the pics of the Bronco that Sibob is selling and just got the reply it's a no goer because the wee lad is determined he wants a black bass like his dads! I guess when you're a 7yr old kid that kind of stuff is really important to you I did suggest a can of spray paint but that didn't swing it either Looks like i'm back to trawling the internet and Fleabay. Has anyone ever tried Gear4Musics own brand basses?
13. Thanks spaz91 but my mate just got back to me after seeing the pics and it's a no goer because his son is determined he wants a black bass like his dads! I did suggest a can of black spray paint would sort the problem but that didn't swing it either. Sorry Sibob i thought this would have been perfect for him.
14. Cheers hillbilly and basshead i'll have a look at those as well! Going to have a hunt round the net later and see what we find
15. Cheers guys somebody has first dibs on sibobs bronco so i've said to give us a shout if that falls through! Will have a look at the Tanglewood and Jim Deacon ones as well.
16. I might be interested in this give me a shout if spaz91 decides he doesn't want it. A mate is looking for a starter bass for his son he's not on basschat so i've been given the job of searching here for one i'll show him the pics and see what he thinks
17. My mate has just started playing bass and thanks to the advice we got on here he bought a Fender 50s P bass. The bass finally arrived the other week so he's been playing every spare minute now his 7 year old has shown an interest so he thought it would be cool for them to learn together. The P bass is way too big and heavy for him so his dad is thinking about buying a kid sized bass. He doesn't want to spend a fortune for a bass then find his son gets bored after a few months so he's looking to buy a 2nd hand or reasonably cheap new bass for now. I know the Flea bass comes in a smaller version but thats the only one i can think of. Anybody got any suggestions for a reasonable priced kids bass. Is it a good idea to start him off with a kid sized bass or would they be as well buying a lighter full size bass? cheers
18. From a girls view to even things up I can never understand why people make someone choose between a relationship and something important to them and part of who they are! I've seen loads of friends told give up friends, music, bikes or whatever because their partner wasn't happy. My ex boyfriend was in a band i would never have asked him to give up i was usually the one encouraging him to find another band when his current band had gone down to one gig every couple of months. I had no objections to him buying more music gear than he needed because i done it as well so i understood perfectly the need for stuff you want but didn't really need I didn't mind the female attention he got at gigs either i only ever went to occasional gigs but as far as i was concerned it was pretty funny to watch these women chucking themselves at the band then looking embarrassed when they seen us together afterwards. I had no problems trusting him he was more concerned with getting his gear away from drunks than pulling random women after a gig! Perfect relationship shame we broke up over something stupid! New boyfriend (not into music i knew that was a mistake) lasted 2 months before i got told "i'm not too keen on the band thing why do you have to be in a band with 4 guys?" This was followed up a month later by it's them or me when he couldn't understand why we didn't want partners at our rehearsals! Needless to say i chose the band they've been mates for ages and will probably be around a lot longer than he ever would! I think i'll stick to dating musos in future much less hassle! LOL there could be a call for a basschat singles section by the end of this thread just imagine the posts .. Single female bassist looking for single male bassist send a pic of basses and amps:lol:
19. RIP. my thoughts to both their families and friends.
20.
I completely wrecked my shoulder a few years back and it wasn't funny. I sympathise. Luckily, when I went to see the doctor about it, the first thing she said was "Hey, you're the bass player out of.....", so we were off to a good start. It took me a *long* time and lots of physio (which I paid for myself) to get back to something like useful. In fact it still could be better to be honest. I think it just takes time. BUT... pain is your body telling you to stop doing something!!
Thanks glad you're better now LOL your doc sounds better than mine! My doc seems to reckon finding another hobby is a reasonable answer! My doc obviously isn't into music
Have pm'd you
PM replied Thanks vmaxblues very much appreciated
A change of bass might help.
Yeah i had thought of that after a rehearsal using my mates P bass went slightly better than the ones playing my Jazz but it could have just been one of my better nights! Only problem is i love the Jazz and couldn't part with it! LOL that would be the perfect excuse to buy another bass though
21. I reckon it's a great idea if you could make enough to cover your time and effort! How much you thinking of charging roughly? LOL my mate just turned down a great playing P bass because it was red so probably a good market out there for a reasonable priced paint job!
22. Cheers sliddx mine was done on a motorbike unfortunately that was the 4th time i've done it in 6 years plus a few sprains and tendon damage incidents along the way. This time was two fractures radius and scaphoid and tendon damage i didn't think it would be much of a problem to heal can't remember having this amount of problems the last time but i wasn't playing bass then. I tried playing while i was in a cast but could only play badly with my hand over the top due to the cast coming halfway up my thumb and not enough space to put my bass between. My mates were joking i should put it back in a cast and play that way at least while i was in the cast it didn't hurt!
23. Cool thanks Dandelion i've never seen those before looks like a good idea probably better than the physio sponge i'm playing with at the moment
24. I injured it in May i broke the wrist and and done some tendon damage as well typical i couldn't just do one or the other. I did go and get a couple of lessons to see if i was making the situation worse and also to try and get back to where i was but although i've got a ton of other bad habits he reckoned my hand/wrist posture on my fretting hand was ok.
