sshorepunk replied to Rowley Birkin QC's topic in Basses For Sale
I posted this in the GB owners group on FB earlier today Bernie replied Haven’t seen that bass for many years. It’s not a Rumour. I made it to the customers spec and is the only one of its kind. If I remember correctly it has or had two D tuners fitted. It couldn’t be made now for anything like the asking price. its a bit special! Good luck with the sale -
Who are the top session bassists in London?
sshorepunk replied to Vanheusen77's topic in General Discussion
Ian king has a YouTube channel where he talks you through the various jobs he gets A recent one was for ITV’s New Years Big Bash at Wembley Arena. It’s a good insight into what’s involved when you are doing that sort of thing -

House Of Tone Jazz Bass Pick Ups These are the 62 wind version of these pickups from this well respected brand Spare Off white pick up covers included From House Of Tone website '62 and 70's style J-bass pickups use flat Alnico V magnets with original spacing for the bridge and neck positions. Plenty of spank and more forward mids on the bridge and a big yet clear neck. As with all our pickups it’s all about the articulation and balance between the strings. The '62s have a touch more mids and gain while the 70's is a bit less aggressive with more presence and upper mids due to the lower resistance. Cloth covered hook up for '62 or vintage correct plastic for 70's. Available in black or white covers. 5 string models available as well. DCR: '62 8.2K bridge, 7.8K neck, 70's 7.6k bridge, 7.2K neck.*RWRP RRP £155 for set

Have you still got them? The latest Sadowsky metroexpress basses look great and the range is constantly expanding, the Will Lee looks good

I’ve had my eye on the UV70 for a while, they don’t come up for sale very often (yes, I know there’s one available in the basses for sale section) and when they do I’ve not been in a position to buy I’ve watched the Warwick / Sadowsky partnership expand with some interesting basses in both the metroline and metroexpress ranges, but so far, no UV70. I always thought of it as a bass that is held in high regard by many, so it prompted me to ask a question in the Sadowsky metro group on FB Question and reply shown below

Fender Jazz 75 FSR Serial number dates this bass to 2012 Started life with a natural finish, has been refinished in a very light pink, so I’m told as it looks white to me! it has had a battery box fitted at some point, it has been filled but the outline is still visible Body in great shape with no chips or nasty dings Gotoh Bridge Rosewood fret board with classic 75 style blocks and binding, bullet truss rod works perfect 3 bolt neck plate with micro tilt adjust, just like they did back then Pick ups are Fender from 75 AVRI which sound great with the correct spacing for a ‘75 jazz bass - it previously had 60’s wind pickups, so now it’s more correct in my opinion and sounds like a 75 jazz should Weight is 4.4kgs Comes in a case Will get more photos and add more info tomorrow as I’m busy with a ‘Sunday Roast’ right now So why am I selling this lovely bass? Because I keep seeing things I want to try, not out of necessity, just because I can! Tony

I’m listening to many bands that are linked to the genre ‘psychedelic soul’ It’s something bands from as far back as the 70’s have been associated with, such as Funkadelic and early Temptations With bands such as the monophonics, Black Pumas and Orgone, to me they are very much ‘Acid Jazz’ but I always take Acid jazz as a very British thing so it’s not a label (if that’s the right word) bands outside of the uk use very much

Great version of a classic GSH track by Mother Earth

I saw these guys at Blues kitchen earlier this year, great night

The acid jazz scene, as a label and a 'genre' was good to be around at the time, still is A few bands seemed to merge out of Brit funk and other places, but some great bands emerged, many of which I still play regular today also use when I DJ I remember buying the first Jamiroquai releases on AJ, with Andrew Levy (?) on bass, before they went to Sony Saw JTQ many times, with @gaz66 on bass, great live band, and more recently with Andrew Mckinney. Just picked up A Few useful Tips about Living Underground on vinyl for a vinyl only night I do, probably my favorite JTQ album. Need Sound Stylistics vinyl now 🙂 Mother Earth were one of my favorite bands at the time, Neil Corcoran nailed some great lines, saw them with Australian band Skunk Hour in MAnchester Saw a lot of bands around that time, I also remember BNH supporting simply red somewhere, they were better than SR for me And then there's Galliano! And they are back at it and i have tickets for Manchester next month, not bought the album yet, waiting for the show, they do have Ernie Mckone on bass, great player I just remembered Mr Exe, Paul Powell, Million Smiles, some nice playing on that by Mr Powell, rumours of him playing on a Jamir' track as well
