  1. The combo in question was monstrous, took two of us to get in in and out of the van, but I have never heard tone quite like it. I've no idea why it worked so much better than the same components in non-combo format (for example I had the same head and used it with Mesa Powerhouse 2x10, 2x15 and 1x15/2x10), but I'm pretty sure it did. I sold it to downsize to a Walkabout and two Bag End 15's, but whilst that rig sounded outstanding, it had nothing like the, dare I say it, heft of the Venture combo
  2. Many will disagree, and perhaps rightly so, but I'm firmly of the view that mass and tone come hand in hand with amplification
  3. PM's on behalf on another member who I'm aware is after one of these
  4. These don't come up very often, I'm almost tempted because I have such happy memories of smiling soundguys and viscerally moved audiences from the days when it was my main rig! Beautifully engineered and beautiful sounding unit, although likely taking the prize for the heaviest combo ever built. This isn't going anywhere by courier https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/mesa-venture-600-bass-combo-amp/401701782462?hash=item5d874ac3be:g:OesAAOSwXAxcWdGh:rk:49:pf:0
  5. Crikey, sorry to hear that mate. I hope you won't hesitate to use the feedback option, last time I had a bad experience here - and left negative feedback as the result - it was rather frustrating to receive PMs from a couple of members indicating that they'd had the same experience although had not left any feedback that could have prevented me losing my money. The feedback system works as an incentive to do things properly, but only if people use it when things go wrong. Hope you get it sorted. Chris
  6. Edit: My original post deleted as I don't think it was very helpful
  7. I've two P/Js, one fretted, one fretless, with a passive circuit that essentially gives me the option of JB solo, PN solo (classic Precision), JB+PN, JN solo, JB+JN (classic Jazz), JB & PN series (kinda HB). You need PUPs with lots of wires like Dimarzios, but I love the versatility without the need for actives circuits.
  8. Exactly, good call BA
  9. Which of course you could have found very easily without starting a public thread...
  10. I see both sides of this, but come down firmly on the side of buying used necks until the right one comes along, as opposed to modifying a fretted neck that you're quite happy with. There are plenty of good quality and cheap fretless necks around the place from Mighty Mite at the lower end to Warmoth and AllParts higher up the quality scale. If you keep your eyes open you'll probably get one for not much more than it's going to cost to have your neck modified - I picked up my favourite fretless neck, a beautifully oiled wenge Warmoth Precision with unlined ebony board, for £120. Pretty easy to sell a neck you don't like on and look for one you do. Good luck either way.
  11. At least the relicing is genuine
  12. Thanks mate, great to hear that the bass is being used and enjoyed. Re this one, I heard the marketplace was bad, but looks like you can't even give a bass away these days
  13. Nice playing mate, wish I had £3500 hanging around
  14. Absolutely, and the only acoustic bass I've played that can do a passable impression of a DB slapped as well. Great instrument.
  15. I'd play both sets on both basses and see which I prefer, there's plenty of characteristics of each instrument over and above the board material that could affect that decision.
  16. Great bass, gigged it many times in lieu of DB
  17. Might be an OK 70's Fender, but certainly not all original (e.g., neck worn/neck binding unworn etc). At the price it would have to be a magical instrument to tempt anyone seriously, and even so there's always going to be problems should you need to sell it down the line.
  18. Nice one mate, what an outstanding offer. I really hope I'm not stealing your thunder if I offer to throw in a nice loaded J-Bass body if it's going to a decent cause.
  19. Now that’s marketing
  20. I’d have the neck back in a heartbeat frankly, it’s 100% quality and 100% unique. Quality build you put together there mate. Chris
