2.
These are indeed wonderful basses - I have a four-string standard (spalted maple on ash/ebony board) that I bought here last year and it is the business for finish, playability and tone. I believe that OTPJ commented on the sales thread that it was the best jazz tone he had heard at the time, and it certainly elicits comment any time I use it live. I am looking for a five string and would be all over this - ironically the only reason that I would hesitate over this particular bass is indeed the beautiful finish - in particular the pearl binding: makes me think that the kind of gigs I do (boppers bouncing all over the shop!... Think: mike, stand and front-teeth trepidation) and this kind of delicate beauty would be a match not quite made-in-heaven... However, for proper stage and studio work this could be a bass for life! ...Still though, if I can shift some stuff, you'd never know, as this is an absolute steal at this price... Best of luck with the sale, S
I could not of said it better ... only reason I am selling I do not have the time to play it .... many thanks for u comments
 3.
For anyone unsure about this bass... I can tell you it is absolutely stunning and a dream to play... Absolutely amazing. Plus Jazz is a genuinly top guy to deal with, very helpful and full of wisdom!
Cheers Chris ... Bump
 4.
I think that the new rule REDUCES time wasters and tyre kickers if anything. All too often the timewasters/tyre kickers are the sellers who ask for people to PM them for a price. At the end of the day the marketplace needs to be as open and clear as possible now that we have so many members and to be honest, if you are selling something, you need to publish a price to keep things above board and reduce the amount of problems people come to me with saying 'such and such said I could have it for such and such but then he said this and sold it for that to someone else' - granted it doesn't happen very often, but as I cannot get involved in any disputes, I want to keep things on a level playing field. You can always sell on eBay without a BIN price if you prefer, but then there are the fees and so forth. On the whole I think this will make things much better for the majority of users. ped
Ped understand where you coming from and also understand the such and such and he said she etc etc .. As I have had to deal with it like wise but I still totally disagree with keeping this law and there are plenty of places to list basses for free without using Ebay ... such as gumtree, findit freeads etc we could be here all day. But I still think it takes away rights from the seller if we are trying to achieve a flat and fair playing field. Jz
 5.
+1 to what Jazz said! :-) And here are a few pics of mine.... Ash Body - Finished in Duck egg blue, with matching headstock Tiger-Stripe Maple neck Indian Rosewood Board All the usual crazy electronics, including the tuner and metronome 19mm string spacing 35" scale Surprising light as well! Notice the scratch plate... no screws... held on by Goodfellow magic! Took a while to get the neck and action right due to shipping in the cold... something Bernie was reluctant to do but I insisted! 2 days later... here we are, plays great, action is low and feels perfect to my hands. Tonally it is absolutely stunning. A little less 'Natural' bass than my Overwater, but with the huge boost the EQ can give you I can match that easily. Top end... well... like nothing on the planet. Bernie and the guys really have thought of everything as well... when I first plugged it in, the metronome was deafening and I was initially a tad worried that it would be unusable... but then he called me, to make sure I had received it and was happy with everything (Quality after service!) and talked me though the internal control system for it so I could turn it down. Very happy, stunning bass... :-)
+1 ... So awesome Chris a really nice bass looks like a real stunner and the color is so retro. I think I will get rid of the 4 and go 5 too .. Jz
 6.
Cheers - don't thank me though folks, Johngh brought up the issue. Have a great xmas ped
QUOTE (chris_b @ Dec 23 2009, 11:02 AM) * .... and when you've sold please DON'T wipe out the description or ask the Mods to delete. It's very handy to see what has been sold. Ta. Agree .... QUOTE (jake_tenfloors @ Dec 23 2009, 11:07 AM) * Totally agree with this. Especially if your trying to sell the same thing and want to try and work out the market value for it! Agree... QUOTE (gnasher1993 @ Dec 23 2009, 09:40 PM) * This is great. I really hate the PM for price style threads. It really winds me up. Totally disagree... with this one ... ----------------------------------------------------------------- Totally disagree with this one and it takes away from the sellers right!!! What ever happened to freedom and choice?? ... It seems that one person makes a recommendation and it law????? I think you should have the right to ask people to send a PM, If they want to know the price and if they are genuinely interested then they will either buy or make an offer on the bass... (it gets rid of the time wasters and tire kickers). As a bass community people should deal fairly and honestly, that is why basschat exists?? And if people are not given the freedom or choice to state their price or ask people to PM then you may find that basschatters may resort to not listing their regular and collectible basses and rather sell privately off the boards to friends and people they know. Also if we are on this subject.. I think that someone also need to address the issue of people posting nonsense and making un-related comments when your trying to sell a bass ... the amount of times I have seen bass forsale threads hijacked is way too many times to mention if a person is trying to sell a bass leave them be .... unless they are making a false or untrue statement... Just my 2 cents ...
 7.
All. Big admission. You all know I sold my Spitfire recently, huge wrench, but I just couldn't get her to cut through the mix in the band like my mundane Sadowskys, which just seem to own and sound huge and solid. The Spitfire sounded great but just thin!, I tried all sorts of eq over several gigs and even the guitarist who as you know normally don't even notice us commented on how much he liked the Sadowsky sound better and how much fuller it sounded. Just my rant and observation.
Sorry to hear you got to let it go ... I have a few words that may help when you decide to go back ... I think it all depends on choice ... I have played so many GB's and can honestly say that I have never had a problem with any of them cutting through the mix or a session. Sado's are a very nice bass and they play really well. I have owned some of the very early models hand made by Roger .... way back in the day...and they have a specific purpose ... I call them A super Jazz. But I have to say if you have a problem with your sound and the GB is not cutting it, then you need to go down and see Bernie (in person) and explain what you need the bass to do and how you need the bass to sound .. and that's it ... Most of the time as players, if we do not get the required sound out of our boutique basses we tend to change bass rather than solve the issue ... The difference between most of the basses made to today and a GB Bass ... is the personal touch.. you may pay the premium, but what you get in return is commitment, dedication and first class service in everything that Bernie builds ... there are not that may luithers/builders out there today that have the same passion when it comes to making a bass or guitar or stand by their instruments until the problem is resolved. Stand back and listen to Sellers/Sales people most of the time the first words that come out are always the same "Its a fantastic bass" doesn't it look pretty, with Bernie it always What do you want the bass to do? How do you want it to look and feel? And if you have a problem with it bring it back and I will sort it ... That's it in a nutshell... Jz

Just joined the site a short while ago and having a stroll around, checking out the scenery, get to dunetune's entry for june 30th pg 34 and what !!!! my angel in the scentrefold!!!! sitting there, in the middle, is my tiger stripe 6 -string, made from the same billet as the five string in your picture GB 2. I'll try to confirm this with Bernie, but I'm pretty sure that six and the five are some of the last ones to be made at the old smaller Croydon workshop, almost certainly in the last two or three made there. thanks for the surprise and Hi to all the GB fans out there good vibes to you all
You'd be right there Guvna Ahh the good ole days remember it well .... and Fat Freddies Fry up ...
