6. I think that was the natural wood job one? In 2 tone? Light maple and a dark ash if it was the one I was so close to making a move on it.... The things I could with that bass...lordy... That was very nice indeed....I dug up the details on it and they are below. I have the GT Model I think mine is a little light on the weight end .... If no one has played a Conkey... the neck for a 7 is amazing so thin. If bass builders or luithers are reading this just a quick tip and I have owned a few basses if you want a tip on how to build your neck and get it right and the spacing too take a butchers at the Conklin GT7.... The neck is so easy to play and not tiring on the hand at all like some basses I know. "That is a fact". I will upload the other photos in a bit. Conklin Sidewinder 7 string bass It has: 7 piece bolt on neck 34" scale Graphlon nut dual truss rods Seymour Duncan Basslines pickups 9v active EQ recessed Dunlop straplocks black hardware Neutrik locking input jack Conklin 'melt' top The front woods are figured Maple and Cherry, with a Purpleheart spacer, and the neck Purpleheart and Maple, with a Purpleheart fretboard. I am informed that the body wood is also Cherry. it weighs around 13 lbs. Chris has a sweet bass.
Chris has a lovely one (Finbar), not sure if hes sold it yet tho, was in the for sale section before ive come on holiday. That is a lovely bass tho! I wouldnt get rid of it either!
7. No probs I have had the cautions etc and now I have a good lawyer/Solicitor/Barrister ...I can whip it out anytime I want under section 6* Just want to see what was out there... they are ever so nicey.....
I'd whip mine out but i've already been given a caution Nice bass by the way i haven't seen many conklins on here, though i understand there are a fair few with them on talkbass
8. I have thought about selling this a number of time but when I pluged it in .... I gotzta keep it the others to follow.... Jazz
 9. I would have cancelled the tour gone home and had a few beers....
Curious how this will play out. Will Victor Wooten admit he was wrong? It's obvious why he'd make the mistake, but it's about admitting it in the end.
10. Just a couple of things you can do with the Fodera [once you own it] like no other bass I know Fodera Durability Keep watch about halfway this is the Fodera standard for testing basses by Vic...
Just a feeler at the moment I will get some photos up in the next few days.I am looking for £3500 + p&p.This is the bass that Victor Wooten used in the photo shoot for bass magazine. It was signed on the back by him but that has almost all faded off now I don't really use it, and it seems a pity not being used Comes with the Fodera case I am selling a few basses so sorry no trades you can call me 07957 596824
11. Truely outstanding service....
Just thought I'd mention this: A young girl came into our shop last Saturday looking for a beginner bass pack - bass, amp, etc. I gave them at least an hour of my time, which included: A detailed run through 3 basses - a Squier Affinity P, Yamaha RBX, Cort active. All around £200. I explained the difference between single and dual pickup configuartion, and the active tone controls on the Cort. Ran through the features on the amp - an Ashdown Tourbus 10w. Showed her the correct way to hold the bass, right and left hand positioning etc. Because her Dad was into Cream, I gave an impromptu lesson on how to play Sunshine Of Your Love. Demo'd the difference between playing with fingers and pick. While she was practising the aforementioned bass part, I showed the parents some books and explained how to read tab. The parents commented on fingerprints being all over the bass (!!), so I took ot and polished it. When she chose a strap (chucked in for free), I adjusted it to the correct length. Answered every one of the million quiestions they threw at me (Secret Shoppers?). The whole sale came to £244. Nuff said.
12. Yes Bireli's playing was a tribute... but you know what is coming next ; Totally disagree - you have to remember Jaco was an innovator at the end of the day. Jaco's reasoning behind his playing was to bring something new.. [Never mind minty fresh and exciting] ...to the world of bass that is why he did things differently to everyone else. He made you think about the way you played and left the ground work for most bass players to build on. I personally do not think his aim was to have everyone play like him or to be a Jaco clone? [Not to be confused with Star Wars Attack of the Clones] To say Jaco's playing is totally superficial and transparent or anything else, means that you do not understand the true meaning of the word bass player or bass genius. Jaco created a style for bass players to build on. A starting point or platform to take what he had learned to the next level. "I think that was his reasoning behind the way he played and the music he created". I think you had to be pretty OK to play bass with "Weather Report", Rather than a local band that meets up for a social Jam Session once a week. If you read a lot of the bass mags and bass websites, take note of some of the comments made by the most influential bass players of this era from Jazz, Rock, Pop, Funk, Metal, Garage to Grunge... everyone comments on Jaco's playing ability and what an influence he was to them, they also commented on the tones and sounds that came out of his bass that made them want to take up music or play the bass. It takes a great deal of talent and skill to influence a person to take up playing an instrument, or to make a DVD based on your playing ability or to have a book written about your style and the impact you have made on the music scene. As well as having endless musicians paying tribute to the contributions Jaco made to the music world. Plus having the time to sell few hundred thousand CD's based on your music, The word "Genius" would have to come to mind. I also forgot to mention having you own line of Signature Basses too by the company that invented the bass as we know it today. I think that the message that todays bass players do not fully understand or comprehend about Jaco's playing, whether it may be someone paying a compliment or a playing a tribute piece is that Jaco may have contributed to them taking up music or even the bass. Remember Jaco created a unique sound - other top bass players took that sound and developed further into their own individualistic syle which may have inspired "Joe Bass Public" i.e. me or you to take up playing the bass. Peace Out
Sounding like Jaco is and always was a fool's errand (even when I was trying it). Yes it's great but it was great because it was fresh and exciting. Now its superficial and tranparent. Birelli should know better. I prefer his playing on The Super Guitar Trio cd http://www.amazon.co.uk/Super-Guitar-Trio-...3349&sr=1-1 PS didn't watch the clip - can't on my work PC.
13. So true this is why the phrase Prodigy was coined... a true genius in every respect.
I really dig bireli's playing. This video, I feel, is much more tasteful (while still showing he has sick chops!): Here.
14. I think I started to play around on bass at 13 i remember the music teacher at school saying something along the lines of Jaco was a God or something to that effect when he was alive. My reply was who the ell is Jaco and then she sat me down and laid it all out ... and the bass stuff too. I will never be the same again. Besides the bass playing aint half hot mum... Talking about Squier VJM's... I have one for sale and I am asking between 10-15k and it is worth every penny... No offers too Come on you know you wan it... For an extra 5K i will throw in a butler
Me too! Keep thinking about picking up one of those Squier VMJs just to play around on
15. Yes totally agree.... you can definately tell that his bass playing is on another level to most gigging and studio bassists... but it also comes down to raw talent too at the end of the day... without that you are bass joe public. The jaco-esq influence or style he has is really hard to pull off not many players out there that can get the sound, rhythm, feel and tone just right to get your feet and senses moving... and the fluidity just makes you want to go out and buy a Fender Jazz Fretless... or start ripping the frets out of the jazz that you currently own. Bireli Lagrene one of the best kept secrets in the bass world and I have know that for a while. I also noticed a couple of fretless Jazz Basses pop up now for sale .... makes me want one real bad but I have the 7 string fretless to keep me busy...: So many strings great for hanging clothes, cutting cheese and as a harp. Jazz
I've always been much more a fan of Birelli's bass playing than his guitar playing, it has to be said! Awesome video though.
16. I saw Avi last year and we had a good chat and the guy is simply amazing and humble. He was playing with the Avishai Cohen Trio. If you have a desire to get into stand-up bass, say no more unless your Ray Brown. We got a talking and I asked him about some of the bass players today and he was very modest....loves Mr Wootens stuff. Avi is truely a great bass champion. I would highly recommend anyone going to see him when he is back over here. http://www.avishaimusic.com Regards, Jazz
 17. Not forgetting to out put it through the Bose 321 Series II eyie mama .... that Jaco vibe amplified stereo... The neighbours will love it....
really must get the right lead to connect mine!
18. Simply amazing...... look really nice off youboob on my plasma.....
Haven't heard all of it, but some of these tracks are on Spotify. Stuttgart Aria - an album by BL and JP.
19. Imagine...this is just him playing bass like joe public ... imagine if he really wanted to play...Get the man a GB Bernard if your reading this pump these out like milk from a cows uddder I will take one...
I've been playing just acoustic guitar for the last few years. Makes me glad I've come back to bass! Just been watching some of his other stuff. There was one where he was aged 13 playing the Montreux Jazz festival. He was out of tune, but still pretty amazing.
20. Makes me want to take up the gitar ..... naaaaa
Saw this a little while ago - he is pretty good - must see if he is on Spotify. He toured with Jaco and something obviously rubbed off. Love the sound of it but it is so far away from what I can do it isn't one of those things that makes me want to give up thankfully. Almost like another instrument Edit: and a Jazz bass without the scratchplate - wonder where he got that idea
21. I was having a chit chat with one of my ole bass buds from back in the day and he pointed me to this clip.... And the guy in the clip plays guitar .... man o man this gives me a new outlook on guitarists ... other than being just dumb blondes Ouch I nearly had a Dejavu......Man can the guy play...... bring back Jaco... Reminds me of Mr Cottle.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY_wH15a7C0 Hope you cats like it as much as i did. Jazz
 22. Yes he does have a few fine fillies in the stables .... Naaaay and he is not half bad a building a bass gitar
thats very close to what i was thinking about ordering for my birthday bass......another stunner from the gb stables.....
23. Yes I have.. but i think i will leave it the way it is it will be challenging for someone out there.. as I have a Bill Dickens Sig 7 fretted coming in soon. Although if it does not sell or trade for another 6, I might just lock it away for a few years in the cubboard Jazz
Have you thought of getting this bass fretted instead of moving to 6 string fretted. Conklin GT7's are getting harder to come by if you wanted to go back to 7 strings again.
24. Bernard must have had his snorkle on to paint that one.... Always reaching new depths of bass design - lovely....
Love the fingerboard but not sure about the body!!!
